Now don't assume I'm gonna give this film a glowing review just because it has wolves in it and I happen to be a wolf. Although I was interested in it when I first saw the trailer. I wanted to see this movie for myself and form my own opinions. So here are my honest thoughts about the movie:
I went to go see "Alpha & Omega" a few hours ago. (Not in 3D though. I don't have that kind of money!) And I liked it. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. I just liked it. It was a mildly entertaining film. I liked the story and I liked the voice-over work.
The plot wasn't your typical nerdy guy tries to get the popular girl story. It was a bit different. It's mostly about the roles of a wolf pack. Alphas and Omegas can't be together. It's the pack law. So there's these two wolf packs competing for food. In order to survive the two alpha wolves (Kate and Garth) most marry so their packs can join together. But then Kate and Humphrey get captured and taken to an Idaho preserve in order to repopulate. They find their way back home with the help of a French-Canadian goose and an English duck. And then...well...you gotta see it for yourself.
As for the animation...it was...uh...not that great. First of all, the wolves didn't really look like wolves. The vehicles in the movie looked more like toys you'd find in a pediatrician's waiting room. When you're a lesser known animation studio, your movies will be compared to Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks if it doesn't do well. I'm not expecting this movie to be a blockbuster.
The humor in this movie is pretty tame. To me it didn't have a lot of crude jokes as suggested in the trailer. That's the problem with most PG rated animated movies. They put in too many jokes and references that are aimed at adults instead of kids.
To summarize: I did like "Alpha & Omega". Because of the mixed reviews it received, this movie would be considered a guilty pleasure for some. If I were to give it a "At The Movies" type of rating; I would give it a mild recommendation and say "See It"; but not in 3D.
