I want you so bad...well, just your autograph

Greetings! I have just made another petition in an attempt to make Conversion Therapy illegal. Here is the link:
Link to the petition!
Conversion therapy is harmful. The idea that you can change someone else's sexuality is corrosive to the victim undergoing the transformation. The claim that they can "cure" homosexuality just add's more fuel to the fire for homophobia.
Please sign this petition and pass it along! I need 150 signatures ASAP to get this petition public!

Again, please don't think I'm causing trouble. :s i just wanted to say something. otherwise, I hope your petition does well. I hate the idea of people being forced to endure that "cure".
Point is if we enacted some of these rules, you'd have a HUGE outcry and a lot of people would ask "Why? It's not hurting anyone." Well gays aren't hurting anyone, and this rule thinking that being gay is sinful is just causing problems and it honestly is just a mistranslated mess (unless you read Paul's works). We have the highest teen suicide rate and several parents think they shouldn't approve of their children being gay and would very much like to change their sexuality for them. THAT is a horror I don't think any gay person should have to endure. If the American Psychology Association didn't clearly state that homosexuality wasn't a mental illness, we would be facing tougher times.
I can't help but want the opportunity to be in Oaklawn (gaybourhood) with my mentor and have a "missions" group come and try to testify to us that what we're doing is wrong. Because I'd ask "Well according to the quran your friend here should have her face covered." They are following a scripture without understanding it's purpose and sometimes the purpose just isn't right. Like the story of Sodom & Gomorrah. The purpose of this story wasn't for the fact of sodomizing, it was the lack of hospitality. And they want to use this example when Lot said "Take my virgin daughters instead and rape them!"? I'd also ask them "Why are you busy telling someone they're wrong instead of helping people in poverty that need Christ. We know very well who he is, they don't."
Really, a few denominations of Christianity ARE extremely intolerant. I'm sure you know that. i think my great grandparents would have a fit if they thought I was gay. If I told my PARENTS, on the other hand, I think they would be upset, but they have told me myself that it would change nothing. I'm a luckier kid because of that. No one can call themselves a true Christain who does not do what God said, love everyone. but I also know that you can't force people to change.
Unfortunately the petition only got 1000 signatures. I am working with friends to go state by state like what they're doing right now. California and New jersey have made conversion therapy illegal for minors (although appeals have been made which have been unsuccessful but they keep trying), now I'm thinking to find a group who will endorse this.
And no negative repercussions on the recipients psyche? There have been gays that have gone through this and when they realize they can't change they have committed suicide. Because these therapists have said they're "sick" and that they're "sinful." You look in the bible and tell me where it says that we are supposed to be "cured" when Jesus didn't even do it.
"All major national mental health organizations have officially expressed concerns about therapies promoted to modify sexual orientation. To date, there has been no scientifically adequate research to show that therapy aimed at changing sexual orientation (sometimes called reparative or conversion therapy) is safe or effective. Furthermore, it seems likely that the promotion of change therapies reinforces stereotypes and contributes to a negative climate for lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons. This appears to be especially likely for lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals who grow up in more conservative religious settings."

And as for witness accounts, check this one who is the admin of the transfurs

He may have undergone only one session, but I have another source (private) who underwent it for three months before his mother finally got some sense and took him out of it.
The problem with the gender change is that the people are initially unhappy with their gender. Afterwards they feel fulfilled and happier that they've done it. This may not always be the case, but it seems to be the outcome that is consistent that I've heard. And a lot of them say they don't regret doing it. I may be going to far, but I assume that a psychologist's recommendation is needed to commence the process of a sex change.
Let's put it in simple terms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9WKW6fw7I4
Thank you.
You're an idiot. You have responded not only with unsound arguments but also irrational arguments attempting to defy evidence supplied. I was trying to be mutual and nice for an open discussion but now you're just being a high-minded dumbass that decides to know more on a matter without even considering to research it. The only thing I have to comend you on is your guns.
Heterophobic? No, I don't hate straight people nor do I have anything against them. In fact, they are necessary to continue our species, they are a wonderful asset. I am equally opposed to organizations that tell heterosexuals that their lifestyle is wrong and they have a mental illness, however, I have not yet heard of this. Have you?
The problem I have with people telling others not to be gay is that a human being should not have to feel ashamed of what they are. Gay people who go to conversion therapy don't do so because they truly feel that they should be straight, but because their homophobic families are ashamed of them for being gay. This registers on a subconscious level. Some people are able to move away from that, and it's great, but others are not so fortunate and they succumb to the desire to 'fit in', even if it means becoming something that they are not.
As Yeldarbis said before, people looking for a sex change need to be assessed by a professional who will determine whether they truly were born into the wrong body, or if there is some other element in their psyche which causes them to be unhappy with themselves. Then they tackle the specific issue that has been found. Conversion therapy skips that step and tells ALL homosexuals, without proper assessment of the individual ,that they are mentally ill, which is plainly a lie. If we break it down to the most basic elements: this is someone with a powerful influence over other individuals, telling them lies that can make them very unhappy. Would you feel the same way if rape victims were told that they WANTED to be raped and that they are mentally ill? Would you feel the same if organizations were focused on telling you that your love of guns is a mental illness that needs to be treated? Of course not! Because these things are not true! I'm sure you are strong enough that you wouldn't believe what these quacks told you, but what of those weaker than you? Will you let them suffer or will you stand up for what's right and protect the innocent?
People who wish to be a different sexuality need help, yes. They need to be re-taught what sexuality is, and why their sexuality is not wrong. Once they realize this, I'm sure that they will no longer wish to change because they will be happy with who they are. Similarly, many people who wish to be a different gender are turned down because their psychological profile does not require them to undergo a sex change; instead, they are given the appropriate treatment (I'm not an expert in this field so I cannot say precisely what the treatment is) so that they are happy with who they are. And those who do require a sex change, get it, because the experts have agreed that it is the correct solution for them.
However, American Society is learning to accept and be tolerant of us. More and more people are starting to recognize that we are normal people. My parents were in complete outrage to the Gay Kindle Commercial and I thought the commercial just simply expressed what we are like: normal.
Dare I sway your desires, what if you could be of faith with a loving man and even have children? The stereotypical gay isn't every gay person, in fact we're trying to set the record straight:

Even if you were, it would still be wrong for any professional to tell you that you are right, because they would be lying. As I've pointed out before, it is just as wrong to try and "cure" someone who is gay, as it is to "cure" someone who likes tomatoes. Neither are bad things and any professional should try to teach the person precisely that, even if the patient thinks that they are sick or not fitting in. Lying to yourself just to fit in is harmful to you, and being lied to is just as harmful.
So what is the next step? Just show people that being "different" is not the same as being bad, wrong, evil, cruel, dangerous or anything of the sort. The churches can say whatever they want to say, they do not run the government and I certainly hope they never do: a theocracy is not a democracy. So if the churches don't respect you, despite your efforts to explain that you're a good person, then you leave the churches to their own ignorance and denial of the good in you. And if they do respect you, then you have come one step closer to making the world more accepting.
Isn't it more like a benevolent God that he'd let people develop who they are, and judge them based on the good and harm they do in their lives, instead of creating them destined to be "wrong" in his eyes, born to be punished for something they had NO choice in? And no, homosexuality isn't any more of a choice than the food or music you like and dislike. No straight person wakes up one day and says "I have decided that I will be a heterosexual!", no gay person wakes up one day and says "I have decided that I will be a homosexual!", and neither do people say "I have decided that I will like tomatoes but I will not like milk". These 'decisions' are very complex consequences of a combination of genetics and environment. If your God makes me inevitably be gay, then punishes me for it, then he is not good and does not deserve to be worshiped. I'd rather believe that you are worshiping a good God than a bad one, therefore I think that the people who wrote the various parts of the Bible just didn't understand God's complexity when they stated that he hates homosexuals, or else the original meaning of their writing was lost in the countless editing and translation process that the Bible has undergone over time.
10 But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. 11 They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales—that shall be an abomination to you.
This forbids people from eating pork and shellfish (as they live in the water but have no fins or scales). It is in Leviticus, which arguably is outdated or more accurately, it was fulfilled by Jesus so that it is no longer valid for Christians as they believe that Jesus's sacrifice 'cleansed' them of this.
From what I can remember, the only mention that homosexuality is wrong in the New Testament is in Romans. But if I remember correctly, no part of the New Testament was written by anyone directly inspired by God. I think it was written 30 years after Jesus died, by his apostles. Which means it is highly biased and subjective, everything contained in the New Testament was written by regular human beings, albeit the ones that Jesus favored most highly, not by prophets who'd seen or felt God directly. Christians claim that Jesus is God, yes, but a physical, human, mortal embodiment of him (part of the Trinity) so, while inspiring, and allegedly capable of miracles, he does not seem to have the same presence as the spirit of God, which cannot even be looked at (Moses only saw the back of his head).
My point here is that anything in the New Testament was written by non-prophets who observed, rather than by prophets who actually claimed to have heard God speak directly to them through his spiritual form. Which means that it's very likely that the individual authors' personalities seeped into their books. Romans was written by Paul, who is known as one of the most strict Apostles and he was quite misogynistic so I wouldn't be surprised to find that he was also homophobic even though Jesus told him and everyone else to love everyone.
Furthermore, the Old Testament is highly unreliable because many of the statements in it, particularly in Genesis, cannot be taken literally by anyone with any scientific knowledge. To take the Old Testament literally is an insult and a major disrespect to all the science carried out in the last 200 years, all the hard work carried out by hundreds of thousands if not millions of scientists who have tried to understand the world around them. To reconcile this, it is possible to believe that Moses simply couldn't have understood the vast complexity of God and God's plan and so on, so he wrote down what he thought he understood, or perhaps he decided that considering the knowledge at the time, it would be easier to explain things to his followers through stories and metaphors which may be inaccurate but are the only way that people at the time would understand. That is the most respectful explanation I can find for believers, because the literal facts of the OT are clearly incorrect, and I would rather be gentle than rude when telling people that they're wrong.
If I said that God spoke to me and told me something, would people believe it? No, people would think I'm crazy.
I sincerely mean no disrespect, I ask this purely out of curiosity.
Good that you got over 1000 signatures though.
..Anyways, I fully support you, and wish you God's richest blessing in your future efforts!!
I'm Pansexual and I believe that to "cure" homosexuality is a huge mistake; people should be accepted the way they are, as only the Most High HAS the right to judge, punish, cure and forgive. C=
2 states made it illegal! Let's hope this stuff goes even further and the ENTIRE country declares it illegal.
You can't change orientation. It's a part of who we are. People who think they can change that have no brain!
