I am now officially bored enough to do it
Thursday -
The drive over to Kissimmee is terrifying. TOURIST TRAP LAND MAKES FOR REALLY SHITTY ROADS D:
Got over to the hotel at 6:30 and was super nervous about my DJ set, but in hindsight I shouldn't have been because I basically played to an empty room for the first 80% of it! Only during the last 20 minutes did a group of people show up, and then I actually had fun. Megaplex scheduling has never been good but come on, don't put a DJ at the same time as the bowling outing, before the con even starts. Don't put anyone there on thursday at all, in fact! The con starts on friday. :V People liked the happy hardcore part but I think gabber scares people. oh well! I really want to do a tech dance set for my next gig, I am addicted to it even though there are maybe six people that make it! afterwards went to IHOP and met blueions 's boyfriend, jazzotter who is really sweet! They're kinda similar in personality so they make a good couple :B Then ran back to catch takum's awesome trance set. I was totally in the zone and jumping around going nuts and a couple fursuiters joined in, I think I'm on video somewhere haha. I tried learning how to do the shuffle from Inu but THAT SHIT IS TOO HARD. someone give me coordination please
Friday -
This is the part where I remember what megaplex is all about. That is, fucking nothing going on that anyone who has ever ventured outside before would go to until the sun goes down. A whole bunch of Q&As and nothing. :V So you have to make your own fun! I basically followed around toklankitsune while he was in fursuit for fox antics, and played jazzotter in brawl (there is nothing scarier than a good ROB player). I honestly don't remember much else about friday, there was so much nothing going on. I know the people running the con have the best of intentions and are great people, but putting all the DJs on top of the few events so no one goes to dance, and then having lots of dead space in the daytime is just really bad scheduling and someone should probably fix that. I know a few people that aren't returning because of this.
The pool party made up for it though, but holy shit the DJ didn't know what being a DJ is. There was no actual DJing, just someone skipping through tracks on an iTunes playlist every 60 seconds with no mixing of any kind. There was even random Sonic CD and DDR music which was pretty funny. But packing the pool and hitting around a giant beachball while trying to ride on a huge blow-up wolf is hard to beat. :B Uncle Kage's story hour was amazing as always. He's a phenomenal guy but I couldn't even begin to try having a conversation with him, he's that articulate and intelligent and I fail at being social x3 after that I pretty much just went back to a certain room and drank a lot o3o I'm not used to it so that was the first time I was drunk to the point of having balance issues haha. fun times
Saturday -
NOW the con picked back up. Got up just in time for the fursuit parade, which hit the triple digits this year =3= It was weird not seeing sefhighwind in it, oh well ;3; I convinced my friend who had never gone to a con before to come along over the phone (his name is sivart), hopefully he ended up having fun! The people at CARE were amazing as always, I feel bad that I can't donate to them because I'm broke as fuck =3= Until 6pm I just BSed around with people and met jarvi and izzywolfram who are both awesome and easy to talk to o3o then got in early for the fursuit dance comp which was pretty impressive for a con this size! I do think Pyro should have won, he didn't even place but my jaw actually dropped during his routine. I don't know his FA, but mad props to him :B
Here's another beautiful example of Megaplex organization skills. For Julie Bunny Must Die (the musical, which common sense would imply would have a huge attendance) they had no line set-up so everyone crowded in a huge blob in the main room. THEN, five minutes before it began, they yelled at everyone to get in a single file line. A little late for that to be possible at all! So they tried doing it anyway, dragging people to their new positions, and I was apparently invisible because I was left completely out of the line. So I got frustrated and said fuck it, I'm going to the pool. So I had deep hot tub conversations with sivart and a guy I met, a panda named Pineapple that I never ended up finding again, but he was chill. :B The whole rest of the night was going from room party to room party, though after the night before I didn't do much drinking haha. Got to know Jarvi better and got to watch Takum get knocked on his ass from Long Island iced tea lol o3o
Sunday -
weirdly enough Sunday by far had the best panel and show lineup and I went to all of them back to back after the fursuit games! The Japanese game show experience had to be the best one of the whole con, I definitely appreciated the real-life Space Channel 5 segment, and I'm sad that I was the only one who even knew about Perfume's music beforehand. x3x love them <3 Puck's magic show was great too, I love how he makes comedy and magic work together. The best part of the Funday Pawpet show were the subservients, watching Uncle Kage do the shuffle was as great as you'd expect it to be, and I just cannot get enough of Orlando Fox, even though I've never even talked to her. She is just the best at fursuiting. x3x The closing ceremonies ended it on a good note and made it feel like it was the biggest yet. Despite having the same problems of all-or-nothing scheduling, I found myself not wanting it to end, and that's a good sign. :3
