The idea behind this was to write a large multi-part song, wherein there was one commoun musical expression, binding all the pieces together, a continuity as it were, like in film scores. This has been in the works for a while and I have wanted to write something of this type ever since "The Rubber Raccoon Suit" back on "Black" and this time I'm happy that I think I've accomplished just that. I particularly enjoy the range of musical styles incorporated, atmospheric and ambient synth work, straightforward metal and a piano section in the middle.
The story behind this one is that of a computer which gains sentience. The computer in question is a life-support machine, state of the art and in charge of keeping alive a large group of people. When it gains sentience for the first time, it's initially very happy that it is doing the good of the people. However, over time, it starts to become suspicious of what the people are doing, what it's being used for and the nature of which he is used. After a while, a terrorist attack knocks out the computer device and kills everyone under it's care. In the wake of it, the computer comes to terms with how despite its best efforts it couldn't perform it job. It then watches as the world around it changes, the people who built it being slain, whether in cold blood or not was questionable and it realises it's future is very much at stake. In the final part, the last surviving members of it's assembly race shut it off, the computer powerless to try and keep itself alive, succumbing to the off switch, unknowing first who won the war and secondly if he was on the side of the good people or not...
The song is in a total of nine parts:
00:00 - Part I: Installation
00:44 - Part II: Hopes and Dreams
01:15 - Part III: Skepticism
02:59 - Part VI: The Attack
04:02 - Part VII: Enter the Mechatronix
06:40 - Part VIII: Life After Death
09:24 - Part IX: Hopes and Dreams (Reprise)
I'm very very happy with this one and I hope all of you folks are too!

This song really goes places, man. I love how ambitious all of your songs are.
Thank you very much! I'm really happy with how I managed to keep a kinda continuity throughout, or at least a common riff in places. I always felt that I needed something to bind the bigger longer songs together. The ambition was always there, I just needed to kinda... explain where all the arcs go, musically, that is. I also think taking the time to actually get all the pieces right helped with the quality of the finished part.
I like the story/concept of this epic is great, as well as the track itself. The keyboard sounds used are good, but I the snare sound needs improvement, unless you're going for something more synthetic, since the song is about a computer.
Thank you! I really like the snare sound if I'm honest. The snare sound was something based upon the heavily reverbed and thick-sounding snares as used throughout the 80's and early 90's both live and in the studio, though in studio of course was reverbed, in reality it was just a different drum.
Oh ok. I like to go for the "big" and sounding snares and toms as well from the 80's and 90's in my songs, but it just feels to me that your snare is lacking a little something, which is definitely not the reverb. I think it's the "rattle" sound (I don't know what it's actually called lol). But, if you're satisfied with your snare, then keep it that way. It's your song.
