There was no exhibit of this guy, but he's to funky to pass up.
The plaque says:
This shark, Stethcanthus, had a platform adorning its dorsal fin. This platform and the shark's head were covered with pointed, tooth-like scales. Viewed head-on as the shark attacked, the platform and the teeth might have looked like an enormous, ferocious mouth. Or perhaps they were attractive to potential mates.
Part of the Evolving Planet exhibit.

Maybe it was like velcro.. so it could stick to other sharks.. lol nature is weird.
Lol, unlikely, but it hard not to think that.
I think I'd choose the word "amazing" rather than "weird." Though it may seem weird to us, just try to imagine what it might take to evolve so.

Yes, amazing in a weird sort of way that sometimes is hard to comprehend all at once. You have to let the idea of a welcro shark soak into the brain and ponder its awesomeness. Sounds like a great idea for a kids toy.. "Stick it in your sisters hair! Stick it to your moms fuzzy sweater and let chaos ensue! It's VELCRO SHARK!"
