Thomas and Friends OC/Pegasus Tales character: Tristan (W...
So here is the sketch WIP made by Kumata for my character from my upcoming fanmade Thomas spinoff, Pegasus Tales.
This is Tristan, and he is an experimental hybrid between a Soo Line L-1 class seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soo_Line_L-1_class and a Pennsylvania Railroad class K4 seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penns.....lroad_class_K4 originally in service, surprisingly, to neither of those railroads, but to the legendary Union Pacific. This will have nods to both Thomas1Edward2Henry3's NWR Origins (specifically episodes 3-5) and Victor Tanzig's Stories of Sodor (specifically the method in which non-faceless vehicles come to life). The story is, in 1915 there was a 25-year-old scientist and engineer by the name of Dr. Ivo Sumpter who lived in Chicago, the city where the Soo Line and the PRR meet. And he wanted to create and sell an engine that was a hybrid of two engines, one from each railroad. After selecting each class and getting permission from the two railroads, ALCO (the creator of the L-1), and Juniata Shops (the original creator of the K4 until Baldwin started making them), he sketched a design combining aspects from the two engines as well as gathered components from each class, as well as an L-1 bell as well as the exact same type of three-chime steam whistle that Sodor's Toby the Tram Engine once had as a temporary replacement for his bell, and worked alongside a team to begin construction. By 1925, he was complete. The fireman commenced the first firing, and thus, the awakening commenced. The experimental hybrid engine woke up to life, as if he had awoken from a deep slumber. If you'd like to learn more about the circumstances in which engines come to life, check out this video: Dr sumpter approached him at the front. The engine said good morning and introduced himself as Tristan. Dr. Sumpter introduced himself to Tristan and told the latter who the former was and that the former had created the latter and told the latter what the latter was and what his purpose was in life. Tristan then asked Ivo if he was his father. To which the good doctor replied (and oh yes, I am indeed paying homage to Mega Man) "In a sense, yes." And from then on, Tristan would always call Ivo "Dad". After a few trials and test runs, Tristan was deemed to be in perfect working order. An ad was put out to railroads to buy him. The Union Pacific took interest and purchased the engine. To make sure Tristan wouldn't be unhappy, Ivo and his family decided to move with him to California, and Ivo would become his driver. Tristan was overjoyed by this. The two were quite content working for the UP and Tristan was given the number 144. He liked that number. Because of his number, other engines would often affectionately call him "Twelve Squared". This always made Tristan Laugh. In the 40s he became close friends with Big Boy 4023, named Perseus (in this world, the Big Boys are all named after Greek demigods and demigoddesses). Ivo continued to be as Ivo's engineer until the age of 70 in 1960 when Tristan was Honorably retired by the Union Pacific. Ivo decided to retire as well, and drove him home. He built a private heritage railway for Tristan to run on. However, in 1980, Ivo passed away at the age of 90, but did so surround by friends, former colleagues, and family, including Tristan, who was the most moved by his death. Ownership of the railway passed to his 18 year old great-grandson, Dr. Wilbur Sumpter. Decades later, in the year 2019 Dr. Sumter heard that the head of the Pegasus Railway, the Wing Controller, real name Nigel Presley, was open to new steam engines coming onto his railway. Two had already been proposed to be on trial. Tristan asked if he could apply and Wilbur agreed. So, due to not being converted to an oil burner or having water cars, and there being no coal hoppers or water tower he was shunted within proper range by a union pacific diesel and then went the rest of the way on his own power. I will save the rest of the story for when the lineart is
complete.

Thanks! What about him do you like the best?
I like his American Design and what livery is he and what are his Flaws ?
Standard Union Pacific black livery. Also, I don't think he has any major flaws despite being an experimental engine.
Looks well drawn and i could look very cool if made into a digital drawing.
But i would not try a locomotive as a drawing myself as i am just not that good at drawing yet.

Well this is just the sketch. The linear should be ready sometime this week.
I really like his design, Kinda reminds me of a PRR K4, His face kinda reminds me of Sam and Smugder.
Well, he is American, so that might be why his face is like Sam's, and it's actually listed in the description that he's half K4 half Soo Line L-1.
I wanted him to be like Henry as Henry was once a hybrid (a cross between a GNR A1 and C1 according to Thomas1Edward2Henry3) until he was rebuilt into a Black Five after his accident.
I am not that familiar with Thomas the Tank Engine, but that is a pretty neat design.
Thanks! As in you've never heard of it or you barely know anything about it?
I was never really able to get interested in Thomas, trains, or really anything to do with mechanics or engineering, (I was always more a swords & sorcery geek!) But you've clearly uncovered a new passion!
