"What a scam," Luke muttered under his breath. He knew it had been too good to be true when he signed onto the medical research team with a promise of a quick few hundred dollars in exchange for letting them inject him with their revolutionary new "permanent sunblock." He thought it was worth it to fund this vacation, but now he could hardly enjoy anything because the itch around the injection site wouldn't go away!

As he scratched at his arm, however, he was surprised when the skin in the area started to peel, revealing a new layer of rough, pebbly skin beneath! He was almost ready to call for medical help when the itch suddenly began to spread rapidly across his body, up his arms, across his torso, down along his legs…

"Gah! What the–?"

Luke's shorts dropped around his ankles as he desperately itched at the skin along his legs. Hair and skin alike began to peel away in patches, the same odd, pebbly texture revealed underneath as he desperately tried to find relief. It was strange, however: as the skin peeled away, he did feel relief. The strange, scaly skin that was revealed was not the source of the itch.

As he leaned down to scratch at his legs, he suddenly realized that something strange was happening to his legs. They were being wrapped up with a layer of scaly skin that matched the layer that was revealed as his skin peeled! He tried to take a step and wobbled unsteadily, watching with surprise as his feet combined into something that unmistakably resembled a reptilian tail! As he tried to take a step, he instead managed to slither slowly forward, only barely able to keep his balance.

His entire body had shifted by now, all of his skin now replaced with rough, tan scales that shone in eye-catching hues in the sun. A glance at his hands made him glad that he had stopped scratching: each finger was now tipped by a sharp, black claw.

Luke's face was not spared the changes: his nose flattened into a pair of slit nostrils on his face, which itself pushed out into a blunt muzzle. His eyes grew larger, their color fading to yellow, and his pupils became slitted. Even his hair fell away, scales covering his scalp as well as the rest of his head.

The changes seemed to slow to their final stop, leaving Luke to look himself over in surprise. His tongue flicked out, revealing that it now forked at the end, and he could hardly suppress a chuckle as he realized that he was some sort of naga.

"Well, I suppose this will probably help protect against sunburn," he mused.
