Hello everyone!
The past few weeks have been kind of interesting for me.
I live in a pretty small town and there isn't really much going on here in terms of music.
We have our local music school that puts on events every now and then and there are one or two (semi-)professional bands that usually play on festivals and what not.
But it would seem we generally suffer from a shortage of musicians, apparently. Be that hobby only or more advanced.
Now, coincidentally over the past few weeks a handful musicians moved here and got to know each other (or are still going to; I for one haven't met all of them yet).
The funny thing is, that there also aren't many places where bands could rehearse without disturbing the entire neighborhood.
So now we're all renting rooms and gathering in a small empty building right on the edge of town, which is pretty sweet.
All of a sudden we're like... Ehm, 3 bands and a total of 6 drummers or so (I'm maxing out my maths skills here) - which is a lot around here.
Now, this article is getting kind of long, so I should probably get to the point:
Me and my friend who I usually jam with have met with one of the new drummers last week and of course we talked about what everyone would like to play, etc.
And that is always kind of awkward for me.
Jam sessions are fun and all, but in the end there is something rather specific I would like to do in a band and unfortunately it is kind of difficult to find the right people.
And whenever I have this kind of talk with others, I start feeling like a jerk because it basically comes down to "gEt GoOd Or GeT oUt".
I phrase that differently, obviously, but in essence that's what I have to tell them.
So FINALLY - here's my question for you guys:
How do you feel about this?
Are you happy playing / collaborating just for fun with pretty much anyone or are you at a point where you know exactly what you want to do and you know you need the right people for it?
Would you even want to try starting a project with someone like me or is that attitude an instant turn-off?
Alright, seriously. New it's time to check out...

That being said, it sounds like you found a great balance between the production and performance aspects - that is awesome! You know what you want, you got your priorities straight and rolled with it. I think that's pretty much the best thing you can do.
About me: I feel like I should... rephrase, probably, lol. The way I phrased it in the article definitely sounds a lot harsher than I actually am. I definitely do not ever drag anyone down (at least I don't intend to :< ). It's just that I often feel bad about turning people down, when they basically just wanna have some fun. I feel kinda like a party pooper, because I can't seem to enjoy the simpler things anymore. Like... making some noise, just for the heck of it, lol.
I feel a little awkward about it when that happens. Although it could also be that I'm just overthinking. :D
I don't think you should have to feel bad about it. You're just being honest and it's not like you're trying to be mean or anything. I hope you never lose your drive. I think your music is far too good for you to quit.
"IS IT BETTER NOW?" which is my most recent LP, is leagues better than "good hurt music," though, in my personal opinion. It's bigger, and far more thematically coherent. (not to mention, it lacks the absurd confusion of having three aliases of the same artist on one release.)
