Furry Musicians Spotlight with Ikodo Episode 105 [closed]
Posted a year agoI’m back! After some hectic weeks, followed by a few weeks of much needed vacation, things have finally cooled down for a bit and I hope to be around to host a few more spotlights before the end of the year, which already feels like it’s too close. Is it just me or does Christmas invade the world earlier and earlier each year? I was shopping this weekend and I saw Christmas stuff everywhere, heard Christmas music, and even saw several stores already have Black Friday sales? Can we like chill for a moment maybe? Perhaps with some music? Let’s hear what you all have been working on in the past couple weeks!
If you haven’t already, don’t forget to join the Furry Musician’s Discord! https://discord.gg/gWZMNzHMwq
THE RULES
The Main Spotlight Pillars!
1. The Spotlight is about showcasing new music uploaded to FA. Pieces must have been posted within the past 2 weeks from when this journal goes live, or before submissions close, usually about a week after this journal is posted.
2. Please submit only one song. If you upload a lot of music, just submit the work you are most proud of!
3. There must to be a long enough PG-rated section of your song to showcase! Usually 30 seconds to a minute will suffice. Remember, the spotlight is for everyone.
4. If your song was featured in the previous episode of the Furry Musician Spotlight, you will not have another chance to be featured until one spotlight has passed.
Other Guidelines
Please keep in mind that I do not necessarily select the BEST pieces, simply pieces that pique my interest or that I would like to recognize. Sometimes they are of professional quality, while others might be a first-time, low-quality recording. Don't be hurt if you think a song that is "inferior" to yours is spotlighted. We are all musicians, and all deserve recognition for our hard work!
Additionally, please be aware that by posting any submission you give FurAffinity's Social Media representative the ability to promote it on FurAffinity's Social media pages.
If your song is spotlighted, you will be notified via shout!
And don't forget, this isn't a contest! It's a Spotlight!

Halloween Spotlight Special [closed]
Posted a year agoIt’s time to get very spooky with your music! It’s October, but it's been one hectic end of the month for me. I apologize for the delay, but we figured it best to show off some scary tunes you have made (be it a cover or an original) throughout your time on FA!
My life has been keeping me busy too, but it’s time to take a break for one of my favorite holidays to hear your spooky tunes! So dig back through your galleries and dig up those dark and spooky melodies! A special spotlight also means special rules!
Music does not need to be posted within the past two weeks. Anything posted on FA at any time is fair game!
Submitted music must be Halloween-themed in some way; it must sound dark, mysterious, or spooky, or have themed lyrics
Pieces submitted to previous spotlights are fair game as long as they weren’t featured!
Other than that, make sure to follow the rules below (with the exception of #1) and submit some music!
Your musical wolf is sparking off and will listen to all your amazing pieces.
JaydenTheThunderWolf
I can’t wait to hear all your spooky pieces! Bring on the music and a dark and eerie adventure!

THE RULES/FINE PRINT
Three Important Rules!
1. The Spotlight is about showcasing new music, so pieces must have been posted within the past 2 weeks from when this journal goes live, or before submissions close, usually about a week after this journal is posted.
2. Please submit only one song. If you upload a lot of music, just submit the work you are most proud of!
3. There must to be a long enough PG-rated section of your song to showcase! Usually 30 seconds to a minute will suffice. Remember, the spotlight is for everyone.
Other Guidelines
Please keep in mind that I do not necessarily select the BEST pieces, simply pieces that I would like to recognize. Sometimes they are of professional quality, while other might be a first-time, low-quality recording. Don't be hurt if you think a song that is "inferior" to yours is spotlighted. We are all musicians, and all deserve recognition for our hard work!
Remember, submitting your song below only guarantees that I will give it a listen and consider it for the next episode, not that it WILL be spotlighted. I will ALSO browse the music submitted over the past week or two to consider for the spotlight. Posting your song on this journal guarantees I will give it a listen, but does not necessarily give it priority over songs that are posted elsewhere on FA!
Songs MUST be hosted on FA to be considered. If only a portion of your song is on FA, it must be clear, with no advertisements for listening to it elsewhere, and it should also long enough to include in the spotlight.
If your song is spotlighted, you will be notified via shout! (Assuming I remember of course)
And don't forget, this isn't a contest! It's a Spotlight!
On occasion submitted music will also be featured on Xeno's non-profit Youtube show! Submitting your piece here means you are also giving consent for it to be featured as part of their show. Note that in this case, if your song is chosen, you will be notified of your promotion, and given credit where credit is due!

Posted a year agoTime once again for another spotlight! Usually by this point in the summer, I’m sick of the heat and I’m really aching for cooler temperatures, and while that is true, we’ve at least this year had lots of thunderstorms to liven things up a bit and keep the dessert a bit cooler. I also find I am more motivated and inspired on rainy days. Is that true for anyone else? Speaking of motivation, let’s hear what you all have been working on for the past couple of weeks! Submit some songs!

Posted a year agoHello, everyone! BOP_Secretary and AleutianSilence here.
After some unintended delays, we are happy to announce that we will now be opening the entry form for The Anthrology Vol. 4.
For those who are new to the concept, The Anthrology is a series of themed albums made by you, the musicians of the furry community! They are pay what you want, and all proceeds go towards a non-profit of our choice after the cover-artist is paid. We apologize for the delays, so to make it up to you all we are doing something special for this Anthrology! A dual-prompt with the intention of releasing two albums at once. The prompts are hype and chill! We want you to create the most exciting and energetic song you can make and/or the most relaxed and chill song you can make. You may make one of each if you so desire, but you may only make one for each category!
You can find these albums on our Bandcamp page for reference:

Contest Update: Wildcards and Semi-finals
Posted 2 years agoGood afternoon, folks! Puppy here with an Express Yourself 2022 update.
On the 28th we reached out to all the semi-finalists, wildcard contenders, and the artists responsible for giving prizes. While most of the aforementioned individuals have gotten back to us, a few of the contenders have not. If a contender has not gotten back to us by Monday of next week, we will be shifting the brackets to include the amount needed. That means musicians who scored JUST low enough to not make it in originally will be given a chance to compete!
If you are a musician who received a placement note from me, please make no mention of it in this journal. If you are one of the musicians who are yet to reply to my note, please get to it! We'd hate for you to miss out on the opportunity.
When we have all the contenders arranged, we will upload our wildcard round- hosted by residential staff member JaydenTheThunderWolf. On that submission details on how you, the viewers, can vote for your favorite song will be given.

The first public voting round will be the wildcard round and begin after me and my panel have selected our top 15 songs! After your votes are tallied, the two songs which received the most votes will be added to the semi-finals (making it a total of 12 songs). The semi final round, which will come soon after, will end with the top five moving on to a final round. Once the finals are resolved, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be selected and the prizes distributed!
We're excited, are you?!
~Puppy
As of now, the artists providing prizes have been selected and we've begun our panel's private rating segment! Rating every song submitted is estimated to take a month. If you ran out of time to submit your song for this year's contest, don't worry! We'll be doing it again next year.
To placate you while you wait, anticipate this:
Prizes!

Express Yourself Contest 2022 Submission Journal (closed)
Posted 2 years ago IT FALLS ON YOU TO READ THE RULES BEFORE POSTING, FOLKS. SONGS WHICH DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED ONCE WE MOVE TO THE FIRST ROUND WITHOUT NOTIFICATION TO THE SUBMITTER.
SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE 31ST OF JANUARY, 2022
<><><><><>
Hello folks! Puppy here and you know what time it is, right?!. This year we've changed the rules slightly, so make sure you read everything below before submitting! Everything you need to know can be found below!
WHAT IS THE EXPRESS YOURSELF CONTEST? WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
The contest is, well, to express yourself through a minute long (or less) musical piece. The first round is a Public Submission Round, meaning anyone can submit a song and so long as it abides to the rules, be considered.
The contest then undergoes a private voting round, where the songs from the Public Submission Round are placed on a rating criteria (see below) and at least fifteen are selected to move on. A few, the (5) that were rated the lowest of the top (15) but still show a lot of potential, will enter the Wildcard Round. The remaining, those that scored the highest on our rating criteria (again, see below) will be moved directly into the Semifinal Round. (2) of the songs in the Wildcard Round will move on to complete the Semifinal Round, making the Semifinal Round the top (12).
Both the Wildcard Round and the Semifinal Round will be publicly voted on by you, the community.
After the Semifinal Round, a Final Round consisting of 5 submissions will occur to pick this year's winning 3. This is also a public voting round. As an outcome to this round, the top 3 submissions will be chosen and prizes given (see Prizes below)!
THE RULES
Of course, this contest has rules. Failure to follow any of these rules could lead to your song being removed from the contest, or, in extreme cases, yourself to be disqualified.
Rule 1) Submit all songs for this contest to this journal, and in DIRECT response to the comment below.
Rule 2) Your song must be one minute or less and every second past one minute will deduct points. Note: five seconds of reverb/fade after the minute mark is acceptable.
Rule 3) Your song must have been submitted to FA after this journal was posted.
Rule 4) Your song must be PG.
Rule 5) You may submit up to two songs for the contest. Submit them below, under the designated comment.
Rule 6) All genres are welcome and covers are accepted so long as they diverge significantly from the original.
Rule 7) Your submission must be submitted to FA. FA must be the only place where this submission is found.
Rule 8) You cannot modify your submission in any way after it is submitted to the contest. If you would like to remaster or tweak a song, ask me and I'll fill it in like it's your 2nd song slot.
Rule 9) The top 3 musicians from the most recent Express Yourself (2021) cannot participate.
Rule 10) No remixes!
THE RATING CRITERIA
Our panel of judges and I have determined this to be how we will rate your submission and select them for the Semi-Final and Wildcard Rounds.
Technicality: /30
Mixing and mastering: /15
Cohesiveness: /15
Interpretation*
Musicality: /70
Originality: /35
Time Management: /35
Motivation**
Time Constraint
For every second over, points are deducted. A five second fade/reverb is permitted after the 1 minute mark if no new notes are played.
*Applies only to covers and replaces cohesiveness
**Results in a bonus point. Those submitting are encouraged to explain how their submission(s) express themselves in the description of their submission.
Details...
Mixing and Mastering pertains to…
Audio levels and frequency/pitch issues
Does it sound right? Does anything stand out awkwardly? Are the notes clean and identifiable (within the genre's consideration)?
Cohesiveness pertains to…
If using loops, are they integrated well with one another?
Is there an over reliance on loops with little modifications?
Originality pertains to…
Does the artist demonstrate concise decision making and a clear focus while creating/composing/mixing their expression piece?
Does it challenge the artist or the genre using ingenuity, genre-blending, genre twisting, and/or clear instrument and sound choices?
Time management pertains to...
Does the artist present a complete song within the time limit (lead in, lead out, diverse/identifiable sections)?
Does the artist go over the one minute mark?
PRIZES AND A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
There's prizes! Not a musician? We would love to work out a way to promote you.
Here's the fun part, ya? Too bad it's still a work in progress. See below for what's already set in stone.

Furry Musicians Christmas Spotlight! [closed]
Posted 2 years agoWe’re knee deep in the holiday season once again, and similar to last year, I think this year will once again look a bit more different and cautious for a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fill it with holiday cheer! Jayden and I have decided to team up once again to bring you another special spotlight to help everyone feel some of that festive spirit!
We want to hear some special Christmas tunes by you all, so spread the Christmas cheer by either looking through your old songs or show us a new one you’re been working on! A special spotlight means special rules!
Music does not need to be posted within the past two weeks. Anything posted on FA at any time is fair game!
Submitted music must be Christmas-themed in some way; it must sound Christmasy or snowy, or have themed lyrics
Pieces submitted to previous spotlights are fair game as long as they weren’t featured!
Other than that, make sure to follow the rules below (with the exception of #1) and submit some music!
For further information on what the Musician Spotlight is and isn't, please check this journal -- > Musician Spotlight: More Info

Your musical wolf is sparking off and will listen to all your amazing pieces.

I can't wait to hear all your festive pieces! Bring on that holiday spirit!

Or maybe even making some? Save all those Christmas songs for the next spotlight which will be a holiday special! For this week, let’s hear what else you’ve been working on, but if that happens to include some Christmas or winter-y themed pieces, you won’t hear me complain!

Posted 2 years agoIt’s Spotlight time once again! Does anyone else feel like once the summer is over, the world become incredibly busy and chaotic? I often wonder if everyone feels this way, or if its simply because I work at a university and things are always hectic at the beginning of the fall semester, especially this year since our campus hasn’t seen students in almost a year and half because of the pandemic. On one hand, it’s nice to see life returning to normal in some places, but I worry we may have become too confident. Please get the vaccination if you can, and keep those masks on for just a bit longer. We can beat this thing! And we can write and enjoy music while we do it! So let’s hear what you’ve been working on. Submit those songs!

THE RULES
The Three Spotlight Pillars!
1. The Spotlight is about showcasing new music, so pieces must have been posted within the past 2 weeks from when this journal goes live, or before submissions close, usually about a week after this journal is posted.
2. Please submit only one song. If you upload a lot of music, just submit the work you are most proud of!
3. There must be a long enough PG-rated section of your song to showcase! Usually 30 seconds to a minute will suffice. Remember, the spotlight is for everyone.
4. If your song was featured in the prior episode of the Furry Musician Spotlight, you will not have another chance to be featured until one spotlight has passed.
Remember, submitting your song below only guarantees that I will give it a listen and consider it for the next episode, not that it WILL be spotlighted. I will ALSO browse the music submitted over the past week or two for consideration in the spotlight. Posting your song on this journal guarantees I will give it a listen, but does not necessarily give it priority over songs that are posted elsewhere on FA!
Songs MUST be hosted on FA to be considered. If only a portion of your song is on FA, it must be clear, with no advertisements for listening to it elsewhere, and it should also be long enough to include in the spotlight.
Additionally, please be aware that by posting any submission you give FurAffinity's Social Media representative the ability to promote it on FurAffinity's Social media pages.
If your song is spotlighted, you will be notified via shout! (Assuming I remember of course)
And don't forget, this isn't a contest! It's a Spotlight!
