Titanic: Adventure Out of Time
Posted 6 years agoI remember playing this game when I was younger, and to be honest, I don't remember much from it except that I learned my way around the Titanic really well. XD I also remember that characters would remember what you said and did, and react accordingly, which was a pretty big thing at that time. I'm going to get it and check it out again. It's a sort of point-and-click adventure/escape the room type game. I would recommend it, even if just for a trip about the ship.

I thought I remembered hearing of a few other places doing a similar thing, but I can't think of any off hand.

Obstacle Run in Armor
Posted 6 years agoA knight vs a firefighter vs a soldier.
A lot of people arguing semantics in the comments (both on FB and YouTube), so I just want to mention that the point of this video is to demonstrate the mobility and agility that a knight had in his armor. Not "who was the best" or "who was the fastest."

How women got dressed in the 1700s.

I totally didn't know that the "dress" was basically just an overcoat pinned on to the stomacher. :/ I'd be afraid it would fall off. XD

Best preserved dinosaur ever found.
Posted 6 years agoYou may have seen this, as it was all over the internet (and even in National Geographic) a few months ago, but I figured I'd post anyway, and just in case you haven't.

Discovery Tour, Ancient Egypt
Posted 6 years agoAssassin's Creed Origins is offering a combat-free mode for exploring (and learning about) Ancient Egypt. Personally, I am quite excited, even if it is late period Egypt.

Thanks to The-Komet-Gryphon for the reminder, though I'm afraid I can't give the memorial journal you wanted. Though a good idea, I'm just no good with words, especially on short notice.

Sometimes, I wonder if it isn't better that way. We have better preservation techniques and less invasive research methods now.

The life expectancy myth
Posted 7 years agoA lot of people seem to think that in the old days people would just drop dead by their 30s or 40s, but of course that wasn't so.
http://www.ancient-origins.net/news.....889?nopaging=1
TL;DR: When removing the factor of high infant and childhood mortality rates, people in the past had life expectancy similar to ours.

Posted 7 years agoVictorian Slum House Episode 1, the 1860s
Posted 7 years agoFollow participants as they move into an 1860s tenement made up of sparse rooms, a shared water pump and outhouses. They seek to make a living by matchbox making, wood turning and the rag trade, work once done by their impoverished forebears.
Here's the trailer: http://www.pbs.org/video/3000052032/
And the full episode: http://www.pbs.org/video/3000180983/
There's some good stuff here. Even as someone familiar with the Victorian period, I learned a lot.
And even if you're not interested in the Victorian period, I would still suggest giving it a watch. It really puts things in perspective.
Episode 2 will air on the 9th.
