She's getting close to something and the alcohol kicks in .. how to get her to that perfect state and maintain it instead of going over the limit is a challenge because it seems when she is most open she's right on the edge.... Yes, similar situation. Seems to correspond with her wine level. But for the past two years, I've been supporting and encouraging her to limit that. It is a question of balance. My interest in her going to where she lets go of her inhibitions can't take precedence over her maintaining a healthy relationship with alcohol.

I had a similar experience in college almost 30 years ago. I had been talking with a lady via a long defunct website called webpersonals.

Well, we did have a party week but SW was unusually conscientious about not only avoiding too much wine, but also avoiding the circumstances that would lead to too much wine. So there was no real opportunity for going off the beaten track.

I suppose it's also because the group was from my friend Mr. E and his set of friends, most of whom I know but SW doesn't really know very well. And SW is on average about 10 years younger, compared to this crowd.

Also, this crowd is replete with women who are keeping their bleached blonde look probably too long, and they also tend to have big fake implants. Not quite SW's style.

But of course she did make better acquaintance with one of the women, one who is just a few years younger than her. But this woman has her own money and therefore has chosen a hunky-forward guy (he's a fireman) who likes to really get his drink on and will readily use his physicality to get things to go his way. SW avoided going out with them, and it was probably for the best, if I'm only considering myself.

On another note, SW has been subtle, clearly trying not to be obvious, but she has been modestly encouraging me to travel and leave her back home. She's been asking if I might be needing to travel to Texas more often on business, and she has been asking me to set up my ski weekends, etc. so that she may put them on her calendar for planning purposes.

Yesterday she asked me to assist her with booking a nice hotel for her and three other girlfriends (two of them single) to have a "girls' weekend" etc. for later in January.

And I'm heading on Wednesday to the Rockies for a ski trip, through the weekend. Meeting up with the usual set of guys for this annual trip. SW will now have time for whatever, beginning on Wednesday.

Reading your story I’ve always been amused by SW’s proclivity towards being somewhat private and secretive about letting her hair down. She often seems to be emboldened by your absence, which is common for a lot of spouses, but in your case….she knows it flips your switch so why?

SW is hanging with a new set of girlfriends, closer to where we live. A couple of them are long-term single women (although one of these two was recently married for the first time, but still seems to have the single attitude).

We have booked the hotel as requested and SW told me yesterday they are now talking about staying an extra night.

She also said that the reason for the extra night is that they weren't able to get a dinner reservation at a certain bar/restaurant until that night. I happen to know (but SW may not know) that it's well known as one of the "Cougar" and "MILF" pickup places in that county. I even looked it up, to be sure it's that very one.

After arriving back home from the NYE week/trip, I departed on the 8th for a boys' ski trip to the Rockies. SW and I spoke the first night but she was quiet all the rest of the three nights, and showed up on time to pick me up from the airport. She had plans to go out with the girls but said she cancelled and stayed home with the dog instead.

So I arranged a pretty big birthday party for SW recently. Mr. E was kind enough to host on his 59' yacht. We got a group of about 30 and started at 4 pm cocktails at a local happening bar/restaurant and then walked at 4:30 with the fully-assembled group down to public dock where the boat had tied up to meet the group.

During the pre-planning I'd asked her for a list of people she'd like to invite. When the initial list proved to have an imbalance (too many women vs. men) I made some suggestions to rebalance. She accepted one or two, but still not balanced.

Out of the proverbial "left field" she suggested inviting Mr. B!
