Retirement / Extended Hiatus
Short version; I'm retiring (unwillingly) from art. Any project for which I have not accepted payment will be dropped.
In February this year, I started getting pain from a nerve compression in my drawing arm. A couple months ago, an opportunity to move across the country to be with my partner Solidscale fell into my lap. At the time I couldn't afford it, so I kicked my art into overdrive, taking on as much work as I could.
I have the exact kind of pathologies and personality to approach a problem like this and say; "I have to make the money myself; I can't look to anyone else for help unless I'm forced to" and "I'll deal with this arm thing later". Which as it turns out is how you get a debilitating injury. My nerve pain got worse very quickly, and then my doctor gave me medicine to stop the pain. This enabled me to work even harder and push myself into unrecoverable territory. Now even the medicine doesn't stop the pain completely.
After a long conversation with Solidscale , he offered to take on the financial burden of the move, and I can pay it back later once I find a different source of income. It's only with his support that I even have this choice.
I will still be "around"insofar that if I end up drawing something I'll release it. But right now, drawing just hurts too much to commit to any more work. The damage to my nerve is something that will probably never go away fully. There's a surgical option, but on public healthcare, a non-lifesaving surgery like this has a wait time of 2 to 3 years, and based on my limited understanding, it's not a complete solution.
