For those members of the community which frequent the Amazon Kindle e-book store, Amazon has quietly decided to restrict the ability of users to make off-line backups of their Kindle library. This capability will be removed on February 26th.

To create a backup copy of an e-book in your library, go to the `Content Library` section of the `Account & Lists` menu (third menu from right in the top navigation bar. Once there, select the `Books` section from the tile listing or the `View` dropdown. Depending on the size of your library, you may wish to select the `Purchases` filter so you don't see all the sample books you've taken a glance at.

The next step in the process is to locate the title you wish to create a backup copy of. Under the `More Actions` menu for the title, select the `Download & Transfer via USB` option. If you have multiple (physical) Kindle devices, you will need to select one of the devices as a target, then press the `Download` button. Sadly, this option may not be available if you only use the Kindle app on your Apple or Android device. A file save dialog will appear, and you can save the file to disk as an offline backup.

Finally, repeat the previous steps for every other title in your library which you wish to have a backup copy of. My ~350 title library is now laughing at me as I go through the process.
