~ChessFurs
Welcome! This group is dedicated to and for those who enjoy the timeless board game of strategy and tactics: chess! Here we can meet other furries who play this game and arrange to play online, as well as discuss chess related topics. We can also make book recommendations and help others with their play.
For those of you who are not familiar with chess notation, here is a guide to show you all the symbols mean
R = Rook
N = Knight
B = Bishop
Q = Queen
K = King
x = indicates a capture
+ = check
++ or # = checkmate
Also, for those of you who have PS3s there's a game called Pure Chess available for purchase that's relatively inexpensive (in the US it's $7.99). It's also on the Xbox Live store, but for how much I do not know.
So, that in mind, good luck in your games!

Opening Mondays: Reti, Set, Go!
11 years ago
Sorry for not posting this sooner today. I was going to post it this morning before going into work, but I just overlooked it. Anyway, here it is and our first opening we'll talk about is Reti Opening.
The Reti is a very flexible hyper modern opening that starts out with
1. Nf3 d5 2. c4
What gives it it's flexibility is two things: 1) White's pawn structure is not (terribly) weakened and is allow to place them as he/she sees fit and 2) it can transpose into other openings and we'll touch on that in a bit. The first move, 1. Nf3, also develops the knight to a good square that not only attacks the center, preventing black from making the move 1...e5 and it prepares white for a quicker castling.
As I stated before, this opening can transpose into other openings as well. For example...
1. Nf3 d5 2.c4 e6 3. d4 Nf6 4. Nc3 is the Queen's Gambit Declined
That's just one of several other openings the Reti Opening can change into. Other openings include the Catalan Opening, the English, the Queen's Pawn game or the King's Indian Attack.
Feel free to put your thoughts here on this!
