~Do-It-Yourself
Hello there! You've found your way to the DIY group, for people who do, and people who want to learn how to "Do It Yourself".
There are many advantages to doing something yourself as opposed to buying it from a store or someone else. You can save money, get the color or style that you want most, feel accomplished, have a better quality item, have fond memories, share it as a project with someone you care about, learn, start your own business, have sentimental keepsakes for family members, create handcrafted gifts for loved ones, invent something new, re-invent something better than the original, show off your handiwork, be proud of your skills, impress your neighbors/friends/coworkers/family/complete strangers, and I'm sure there's more.
This group is for the experienced DIY'er and the clueless newbie alike, so don't worry if you don't know the difference between a hammer and a mallet, or a wood screw and a sheetrock screw, there are plenty others who don't either, and plenty more willing to help you figure it all out.
I hope to post recipes, patterns, instructions, tutorials, tips, processes, and ideas fairly often, and I hope you'll all do the same, so we can share the knowledge and help educate each other. As categories come up, I plan to post separate journals listing all the items in that category so we can keep things neat, tidy, and easy-to-access. After all, what good is a giant resource of knowledge if you don't know how to find what you need in it?
This group is run by havockitten / creationvocation (same person), so if you can't get in contact with me here, feel free to note me there. I'm happy to accept notes, shouts, and journal responses as communication from you, so don't hesitate to chat me up whichever way suits you best :3
Rules:
-Just try to help out when/where you can, and keep in mind there are people from all over and with all types of knowledge, but that doesn't make anyone better than anyone else, so play nice :3

Just logged in today for the first time in a few weeks. Saw some new watchers had been added, so yay! Welcome! Hopefully something here will inspire or help you in your DIY endeavors.
Aside from that, I'm sure some of you have noticed the lack of posting lately.I've got to apologize for that, really. When I originally planned this account, I had all these great ideas for DIY projects I was going to try, and then post resulting tutorials for you all. Along with that, I was going to post some tutorials others offered to send in. Sadly, two things didn't happen: I didn't have the money to buy the supplies for the projects I wanted to try (like the stockpot I need for the 2 big homemade soap projects), and nobody sent in any tutorials (yet), so I've been kind of stuck trying to think of other things I could post without just directly copying it over (which I sort of already did by linking the DIY blog, but it really is a great blog).
Life has also suddenly gotten very busy and exciting for me, and it took my attention away from this account for far too long. Things are still busy, and getting busier every day (convention planning, html coding, webcomic designs, etc, all for a webcomic studio I got hired into), but I will try to find something postable at least once a month, if not more.
To help me along, try thinking of tutorials for DIY projects you've read or heard about, and sending them in via Notes, so I can review them and perhaps try my hand at them so I can offer a more personalized review and tutorial of my own.
Or, perhaps you want a tutorial on a specific project you've been thinking about trying, and just can't find one that suits you? Note me with your suggestions, and I'll see what I can do.
And lastly, if you think you could offer a lot as a moderator of this group, feel free to note me about it, and we'll see where it leads. I'm still new to this myself, so maybe you've got more experience under your belt, or you're just feeling really inspired, either way it's worth a shot, right?
