On the subject of DORU LORE
Many people have asked me about the true lore of Doru.
To be honest even I do not know absolutely everything behind them.
But I can try to sum up some things here so that those who like them can make their own.
***NOTE: All these rules are subject to change, and additions may be added later as I see fit.***
ALL Doru:
1.) All Doru have fat, otter-like tails.
2.) All Doru have divided ears, whether they stick up or hang down. It used to be that all males had the V-shaped ears, with slightly pointy ends... but enough people made female and male kinds with the different ears, so now EITHER can have whatever kind of divided ears, BUT the females usually have rounder ears. In fact, the females that DO have the rounded ears often feel a sense of pride for having them, and often consider themselves of higher stature if they do.
3.) All Doru have a MANE. The females usually grow more of a mane than the males, so their manes almost always wrap around their shoulders. If their mane does NOT wrap around their shoulders, they have either trimmed it themselves, or they have some kind of fur growth problem.
4.) Doru are born almost like a virus. There is ONE being that occasionally goes out at night, and seeks a female to impregnate (people in this world revere this being, so they consider it an honor to be chosen by it). Once they copulate, the female's womb is, in essence, "infected." IF that female NEVER mates with another male, the Doru is never born. If they DO mate with another male -- of ANY species -- then the baby is guaranteed to be a Doru. The ONLY way for Doru's to have sibling is if they are born twins/triplets/etc. MORE will be developed on this later in the comic.
5.) Aside from the mane, the tails, and ear similarities, Doru may also adopts certain other unique traits from their parents. For example, Zox and Mara have hooves, Jocello has fins, Lug has rocky parts. Doru may also have unique powers, specific to their parents' species. In some cultures, it is considered a sacred holy ritual to make a Doru out of two species that otherwise could not reproduce with each other, and the offspring is often revered as a holy being.
6.) All Doru have a physical spirit body. This spirit body is what gives the Doru their tentacles. It can be DIVIDED into smaller copies of itself, each seemingly alive, individually aware of themselves, but with a unified consciousness. This has oftentimes baffled spiritualists and scientists alike, for neither can explain how this works. The ONLY way these spirit bodies can be destroyed is by magical means, or by consuming and/or absorbing said spirit body. Absorbing the spirit body grants ALL that Doru's powers and abilities to the consumer -- though, those powers may be limited if the spirit body has been divided, in which case, most of the powers remain within the ORIGINAL spirit body. For this reason, some hunt Doru, in hopes of taking these powers for themselves.
If the spirit body is not destroyed, the spirit body can gradually absorb residual energy from living things around it, and eventually regrow a physical body. If the spirit body is completely absorbed/destroyed, the Doru's only hope for continued survival is its SPIRIT CORE.
7.) All Doru have a SPIRIT CORE. This core resides within the MAIN spirit body, and exists between dimensions. It can BARELY be seen by the naked eye, and it is very light to the touch, and almost unnoticeable to any living thing, except the Doru. The core links itself to the spirit of whomever absorbed the main spirit body of the Doru, and is often difficult to be removed, unless by Doru tentacles, or via other magical means. There are certain shrines throughout their world where these Spirit Cores can be taken, where energy can be used to COMPLETELY REVIVE a Doru with a new spirit body AND a new physical body, with ALL MEMORIES intact. All Doru are REQUIRED BY THEIR OWN LAW to revive a Spirit Core, unless otherwise dictated by law, or under fair rules of combat.
The Spirit Core is one of the most feared aspects of the Doru, because some believe it to be a form of immortality, while others consider any revived Doru as a mere clone of the original. Despite this, the new Doru always seem to be the exact same, having all their memories up to the point of their apparent deaths. Some cultures revere this as some kind of holy power, and worship Doru... while others consider it a curse or a blight, and seek to hunt and destroy the Doru.
Bizarrely enough, the Doru themselves utilize this supposed "immortality," as a means of punishment. If a Doru disobeys a superior, disobeys enough laws, angers enough other Doru, or loses a fight of honor, etc. they are shrunken and consumed as a means of discipline, and left unrevived for a period of time-- the more severe the punishment, the longer the punishment
If the Spirit Core is never taken to a shrine, there is NO hope of reviving a Doru to their full state. Whoever possesses the core can will it to spawn new spirit bodies, but those spirit bodies would be very low-powered, incapable of reaching a power level capable of rebuilding a physical body.
There are other rules concerning the Spirit Cores, but the general consensus is that most tampering with Spirit Cores, other than reviving a fallen Doru, is FORBIDDEN.
8.) All Doru consume different kinds of spirit energy. In most living things-- ESPECIALLY creatures that cannot utilize magic -- these energies grow like weeds. Since there are other creatures on their planet that also consume said energies, most people on the Doru's planet do not have much of these excess energies. This is why Doru use PORTALS to "fish" for beings from other planets.
9.) Doru DO NOT CREATE PORTALS, they only OPEN them. Doru can see and sense energy pockets -- some as big as several miles, others as small as a mouse hole. Each energy pocket is connected to somewhere else that contains habitable conditions for the Doru. These portal pockets can also be completely altered, depending upon environmental conditions (whether it is light, dark, wet, on fire, etc.). If the Doru is not proficient in an environmental power, they may be unable to open a portal (ex- Jocello can open portals in water, while Zox cannot).
Unfortunately, the more narrow the place, the more difficult it is for a Doru to open a portal. If you lock a Doru in a tight chamber, their aura is disrupted, and their tentacles are rendered useless, which makes them unable to make portals. For this reason, many Doru are claustrophobic.
10.) All Doru have SPIRIT TENTACLES that can sprout from their bodies. They can technically emerge from any part of their bodies, but most prefer to have them sprout from their backs. The power of these tentacles becomes more potent, depending upon how much energy is absorbed. Doru can transform their tentacles into physical extensions, like whips, chains, swords, and even clothes-- all limited to each Doru's level of experience. It is imperative that these extensions are not severed from their bodies (A Doru could not make a gun that shoots bullets, because they would be firing bits of their soul body away), otherwise a Doru can suffer sudden psychological damage (which was why Mora got weakened when Rain ripped off her tentacles).
When a Doru touches someone with their tentacles, they are connecting their souls to that other person. This can be good for the Doru, because they can unlock the attraction between the other person and them. If the other person enjoys the connection, the Doru can use an array of emotional manipulation (fear, arousal, anger, etc.) to pull energy from the person in a means that is usually harmless. A Doru must be careful when making this connection, otherwise the energy flow can suddenly go in REVERSE, resulting in a Doru being drained, shrunken, and even consumed/absorbed by the other person. This is especially possible if too many connections are made between a Doru and a non-Doru.
11.) Doru connections can be ADDICTING. This is why Doru are normally only allowed to "feed" off of a catch one or two times (any more can result in Spirit Core punishment). The link between the two causes an unhealthy urge in both parties, often resulting in an addiction that will often end with the Doru draining a catch to death, or the catch consuming, absorbing, or even merging with the Doru. Doru that are lost outside their own world/dimension are oftentimes considered lost, for other Doru are afraid they may suffer the same fate if they follow.
12.) All Doru can float, but they cannot fly fast. You will not see a Doru zooming through the sky like Superman, but they can float at a pace akin to walking. This does not stop a Doru from being creative, however, by altering their tentacles into aerodynamic shapes that would allow them to dive or glide down in a quick fashion.
13.) All Doru are connected to what they call the "Lord Father." More will be written about this person later, but most refer to it as the "Lord Emperor." It is called many names by those that revere it and fear it, but it is the one thing the Doru fear above all, for its wrath holds a punishment for Doru worse than death.
14.) All Doru are tibal. Doru will normally divide into tribes of 50 to 100, if not less. Each tribe is led by one queen Doru, and all the Doru beneath her are divided into factions. Oftentimes, these factions will consist of a group of males with one female leader, and all answer to their queen Doru. If the tribe becomes too large for the queen, she may banish select members from the tribe, or have them battle amongst themselves for the right to stay.
15.) Doru are very protective of their young. Since Doru birth is rather rare, Doru young are often secluded from normal society, and are only trained to use their draining powers once they reach adulthood. Though their upbringing is harsh, anyone who harms a Doru child is subject to the Lord Father's judgment.
16.) Like many other creatures in their world, Doru can merge certain items, and other living things, with their bodies. The practice of merging is an ancient art that is extremely complicated and dangerous.
When item merging is used properly, the organic body becomes a dimension of holding within itself, allowing one the power to physically contain a certain number of items inside their body. Doru, are able to compound this ability with their portal energy, allowing them to carry a bit more than the average person, as well as sense whether another person has merged items within them. The only merged items that CANNOT be sensed are those that are "deeply bound" to a body part... but once deeply bound, said body part must be severed from the body in order for that item to manifest (ex- a thief can deeply bind a dagger to a finger, and sever the finger to manifest the dagger).
Organic merging is harder to master, and its effects can range from marvelously beneficial to absolutely horrible. For instance, a Doru and their faithful pet can merge, and reap positive benefits and attributes from the unity. The merging can also offer healing benefits if the pet were wounded. On the more cruel side, a Doru can use the merging ability to imprison another being within themselves. In this case, the imprisoned individual is completely conscious, yet unable to see or speak, and never fully able to reform themselves under their own power. To some Doru, this is seen as the worst kind of punishment, even more feared than being reduced to Spirit Core, since that is often the shorter punishment.
"Deeper Bound Merging" is a FORBIDDEN art. In this form of merging, both parties are equals, uniting into ONE powerful being. While this merging can massively boost the powers of both individuals involved, it can often lead to insanity in both parties. Once unmerged, one or both individuals often become unhealthily obsessed with each other to the point of harming anything and anyone that shows any signs of separating the two-- even family members and significant others. While some benevolent mergings of this type exist, they are rare... and the majority of them, should they exhibit destructive tendencies, are often destroyed. Those that are NOT destroyed are forced to part from one another, and are never the same again, always missing the other person... and in pain that they can never unite again.
17.) While the tentacles are the most preferred way for a Doru to drain energy, they can also use other parts of their body to drain faster. These areas are usually sensitive areas, like hands and feet and face. The most dangerous area is the crotch, being the most sensitive area. Generally, normal sex with a Doru is safe, but a Doru must be careful when they place their genitals anywhere near another's face, because the drain can be extra potent. If a Doru is not careful, they can drain another person entirely. Likewise, a Doru will often times try to AVOID being the "bottom" of oral sex/facesitting/facegrinding situation, as that can greatly weaken a Doru with an energy drain so great that it can rapidly shrink them.
For FEMALE Doru:
1.) Female doru CANNOT get pregnant. Their bodies are not made for reproduction. They do not have wombs, but instead have an inner chamber that contains and processes spirit energy. This is the same chamber that gives them the ability to create their tentacles, allows them to hover, allows them to use magic, etc. There is more lore behind this, but that will have to be revealed later
2.) Female Doru are oftentimes (not ALL the time) larger and stronger than the male Doru. Nobody knows why this is. For this reason, the females are almost always (there are very few exceptions) in positions of authority. While it is not unheard of that a female Doru can be gentle and kind, they more than often possess a warrior streak within them that demands some form of respect from the Doru below them.
3.) Female Doru are VERY competitive and territorial. In every Doru Tribe, there is often a "queen bee" type of Doru female that commands the other Doru of her tribe. This queen Doru must remain ever vigilant in guarding her position against other female Doru below her, because most female Doru possess an instinctive desire to usurp them. Doru queens tend to be at odds with each other, and will often fight for the right for one to devour the other's powers, and be forever dominant over the losing Doru. The only Doru each queen respects is the High Master Doru, the title currently held by Mora, who is in danger of losing said title to Mara, should the other queens choose to defy Mora.
4.) Female Doru DO NOT have organic tentacles that emerge from their hands/arms, like the males do, but the females' almost always have more spirit tentacle powers, as well as more control over said powers. While this is usually seen as an advantage, it has diminishing returns. Females can sometimes exhaust their powers faster than males, which puts females at a disadvantage if the males are in greater number.
5.) For some reason, female Doru regenerate slower than the males. It is believed this is because females can consume and store much more spirit energy than their male counterparts. This also usually makes the females' energy levels that much more difficult to drain.
For MALE Doru:
1.) All male Doru are unable to reproduce. While they have organs that mimic those of other species, these organs can only be used for containing and processing spirit energy. Strangely enough, despite this handicap, their genitals and physical tentacles can secrete a substance that is remarkably similar to normal ejaculate. More lore will be revealed about this later.
2.) Male Doru are usually (not always) smaller and weaker than female Doru. They also tend to be a bit more docile, and are usually the ones taking care of the Doru young.
3.) Male Doru are not often competitive. In most cases, they are content to follow their leaders, whether those leaders be male or female. Male Doru often work very well with each other, and will, in rare cases, unite against female Doru if they deem it necessary. While it is rare for a male to attempt to devour the powers of another Doru, it not unheard of, especially if they are under orders to perform such a task, or if they feel the cause is just.
4.) In addition to spirit tentacles, ALL male Doru have organic tentacles that emerge from their hands/arms. The purpose of these tentacles is unknown, other than the fact that they can be used as an additional means of combat or sensual copulation. These tentacles do not begin emerging from their arms until late puberty, and it is believed that this is what usually causes most male forearms to grow in size. The male Doru that lack larger forearms usually possess tentacles that are much thinner than those that have developed said larger forearms. While these tentacles CAN be used for combat, most male Doru choose to use them sparingly, as they take much longer to grow back if they are severed from the body.
5.) For some reason, male Doru can regenerate FASTER than female Doru. This may be due to the fact that the males operate on a lower energy consumption than the females. This, unfortunately, also makes them more easily drained of energy than the females, should such misfortune befall them.
Extra Fan Rules
1.) You may make your own Doru(s) for personal use and FUN, but YOU MAY NOT MAKE MONEY OFF OF THEM COMMERCIALLY without my written legal permission. This means you cannot make a comic, book, game, movie, or any other purchasable item, UNLESS I give you some form of written legal permission. This means I will more than likely want some form of payment or share in the profits.
2.) I own the production rights to ALL Dorukolorukalai designs and material. If your fan Doru appears in my comics, or any other material I make, you DO NOT get financially compensated for it, unless I have given you written legal documents stating otherwise. This is to prevent myself from running into anyone and everyone who goes, "Hey! Your BLUE Doru looks like MY blue Doru, so I WANT COMPENSATION!" NOPE! I'm not going to deal with that. I can't spend my days tiptoeing over eggshells, worrying about accidentally making my Doru colors are different when I'M the one who created them in the first place.
3.) Doru are interdimensional beings, and therefore WHATEVER YOU MAKE UP FOR THEM IS TECHNICALLY CANON. There are technically infinite universes, so who's to say a few Doru haven't gone off to do whatever they want in another universe? You want to have fun with them? Have fun with them!
4.) If you want your Doru to influence the MAIN CAST, you must talk to me about it. Maybe you think something about Mora or the other Doru should be changed. Maybe you feel you need to insist your character be in the comic somehow. Maybe you feel a character or two needs to be brought down a few notches. Nine out of ten times, if I feel the idea is good, I'll honor it, but there are exceptions. Again, it's all negotiable, and you must speak to me about it privately. Once again, ANYTHING you give me may be used in the comics without ANY form of compensation to you, so please be careful here.
5.) If you make a Doru, SHOW IT TO ME! I want to see what everyone creates!
To contact me, DM me here, or catch me on Discord at GuNMouTH#1711
For now, this should be it... Again, if I can think of more stuff, I will add it later.
To be honest even I do not know absolutely everything behind them.
But I can try to sum up some things here so that those who like them can make their own.
