Shiatsu (Kanji: 指圧 Hiragana: しあつ) in Japanese means "finger pressure"; it is a type of alternative medicine consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques. Shiatsu practitioners believe in a purported type of vital energy called qi that flows through the body, and that their manual manipulations can help to unblock it and so help the body heal itself.

Shiatsu is the ONLY thing that helps my sciatic issues. I was doing flips on a trampoline the next day because I felt NO pain for the first time in years, felt like a young kid again. A shiatsu masseuse has been hard to find when I moved across the country, but I think I found one that I will try next week, wish me luck.

Hey guys !!! Though shiatsu does rule, this guy's is a bit confused. Namikoshi shiatsu, which is the original actual shiatsu, does not get into meridians or Chinese medicine in general. And we were never allowed to use knuckles, elbows or knees. Read Namikoshi's book. Shitsu=finger pressure!
in therapy with the heart, who cares which "dialect" you practice ! Each one of us --hopefully-- develops his/her own style and the curious, creative, join-the-dots practitioners will combine methods so as to execute with heart and empathy and harmony and effectiveness. Usually, anyways, the patient's body will express what it needs most; and you/one would be a fool not to listen and to deliver with everything you've got.
I was taught Namikoshi style but I add in what I feel what their bodies need.
