incidentally, I've see a lot of people talk about/mention Pixiv Fantasia making neat characters for it, but what is it exactly?

This is basically a large project at Pixiv.com to create a fantasy story with many interactions among characters.
Basically, it's like replying to other people's comics (or illustrations) with one's own comics (or illustrations) so that the plot advances.
It's pretty cool once you get the hang of it.

sounds fun o.o how do you apply for that or join? or are they closed?

People just create a character sheet like this one and join a guild. Usually there are three to four countries to become part of, and there are events in which countries "battle" each other, the victory of which is determined by which side has the most views for the submissions. It may sound complicated, but basically all one needs to worry about is how to involve other people's characters in his or her works. The current event is already closed, but there will be another one next year.

Finally I know what Pixiv Fantasia is, I was so curious to know more. Too bad all is in Japanese but I am also curious as how one gets inside the whole Project cause it seems cool, I hope you don't mind to answer. I will have to defend myself with the Japanese, at least I know some.

All you need is a character sheet to explain the background of the character to join. Or not. Some people prefer to draw just monsters or landscapes that appear in the event.
