Though I know how ot solve it. Take off all the stickers, then all 6 sides will be black, solved and scrambled, you can't lose!
Even more fun is to snap them apart and then reassemble.
But the really worse thing you can do is to swap 2 of the squares, and then twist it randomly. Give it to an 'expert' and ask them to solve it. Stand back and watch the frustration with an 'unsolvable' cube :) :)

Seeing that the cube in the picture has a piece with two green sides and a piece with two white sides, I'd say you got your hands on it already :)
I was given a cube like that a long time ago; it was only when I tried to solve the red side that I realised that someone had taken the stickers off and put them back wrongly -- I had a corner with three reds on it. I gave up at that point.
I do have a cube now, but I can only solve it if I follow a page of algorithms with diagrams; haven't got around to memorising them.

yea you want to focus on learning the logic behind rather than a guide, like the peeps already stated around this topic.
you're always only 27 moves away from completing it

I believe 'God's Number' is now 20, proved in 2010 through extensive computer calculations. Still, I'm really terrible at logically working my way through it; I can't visualise the result of a move on a Cube'; for example, I have two layers solved, and I need to move and rotate the corners on the last layer to put them into position for the final solving. I also tend to forget halfway through a complicated sequence what I'm up to, so I have to start solving from step one again.
An "expert" would solve everything else, look at the two swapped squares for some second, then realize what you have done and try to bludgeon you with the cube XD
You evil

Yeah, my first thought was to look at the colors on the cube and see if it was indeed solvable. :P I feel like such an engineer.
You're assuming the cube is three dimensional. Some of those corners probably have to be rotated through the fourth dimension.
Indeed, and it's tricky to even manage rotating one "face" of them back into position nevermind actually scrambling them XD
any expert knows how to dis-/reassemble a cube, and also knows what a parity error on a 3x3x3 means
Pieces of Seven.. Pieces of Seven...
It's a Parroty Error :)

Ivan actually solve it. My quickest time is 2 mins And 26 Seconds
I have dealt with the nightmare that is an unsolvable cube once.
it was maddening

Jokes aside, solving a rubik's cube isn't as hard as people imagine. I read somewhere that a scrambled rubik's cube is never more than 27 moves far from its solution.
It's very true! Once you learn the algorithm to solve it, it's actually pretty cool. =3 Taught myself how to solve one, twas fun and still is.
It is one thing to prove that a certain number of moves can always bring it to a certain state, however it is a completely separate ordeal to find a set of such moves.
It's been proven that it's always within 20 moves from solved.
It's still hard though. 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 permutations.

Oh god I hate rubix cubes! I just mess them up more than they already are! Lol
Poor guy, if only he wasn't color blind maybe it be a lot easier for him
Awesome comment. And, totally matched the expression on his face.
I saw a guy back in the college I went to.. he used really high quality grease in his so he could just nudge one side and it would rotate it. Everyone just called him "Cube" cause he'd just glance at it once in a while as he spun it the whole time, solving any Rubix Cube puzzle in seconds. Was crazy x.x
That is crazy! I'm a collector of puzzles myself, I can never do anything fast though, or without looking. My current fascination is with cuboid shapes, when scrambled up they have odd appearances and are a real challenge to solve, like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2eR2tvD7tw
Beautiful artwork as always Tani! btw I have trouble figuring out a Rubik's Cube too
LOL, I remember a lot of times like this in my youth...
If you think the basic Rubik's cube is a brain breaker, then look at these advanced models and weep for your sanity.

I remember dad having bought the middle one at some point, which is funny because he never solved the basic cube!
I find the 7x7x7 quite pointless. If you can solve a 4x4x4 and a 5x5x5, you know all the algorithms to solve arbitrarily large cubes. They don't get mathematically more complex just because they're larger.
Personally, I find the 6x6x6 to be the ultimate cube, because it caps the complexity of the 'simple' cubes, it can stand in for any cube from 2x2x2 up to 5x5x5, and the fact that there's no center piece on the faces (like there is on all odd-numbered cubes) means that you can make much neater patterns. wow, someone went digging X'D
I could make a new photo of the same pattern, if you insist

Hah, I lol'd at "weep for your sanity" but yeah, some of that is just wrong.
I liked http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/.....magic-cube.jpg
And by liked, I mean it caused the most weeping.

I managed to get two faces together, and i couldn't figure it out so I said, "Screw it," and threw it in the trash, of course my younger sister fished it out and took the stickers off. But, unfortunately, they would not restick.
Friend at work got one. I brought in the puzzle solver book.
A week or two later. . He is still on the first layer.
Lol. . Needs to read some more.

is that one that gives the solution?
if so burn it and replace one that teaches the logic behind the puzzle.
rather than something that attempts to force the memorization trick.

it gives a bit of both, though at times.. (from past memory) .. I really really needed to twirl that last corner .. :P
Little does that poor fox know, his cube is unsolvable, because the side and corner blocks can't have the same color more than once on them :P
I don't know how eyes of a fox are, but dogs see only grayscale. So from his perspective he might be done already
nice work
my grandma have show me how you can solve this cubes

I hate people who pick those things up and just go *CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK* "Done!"
*CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK* "Done!"
...sorry, I was too tempted XD

takes me about 40 seconds on a loose cube.
please don't hate me

Wow, that one seems really devilish too! Poor foxy :C
(I don't think you can solve it when a corner has more than one square of the same colour :3 I'm not an expert on them, but it doesn't seem solvable to me x3)

Those things are impossible for me!
there are kids that can do it under 5 sec!

The dreaded Rubik's cube! I used to have a sparkly prismatic one!
I can see the reasoning there: "Yes, I almost evenly distributed all the colors!" after all, that's the goal, isn't it?
babe, i'm like a rubik's cube, the more you play with me the harder I get >:3
"Right, Right!" "Go left!" "Left, left!" "Left!" "Go right!" "Go-...ooh..uhhm, uh oh! that's...we're back to square one, Again."
Good job on this, really love the way it looks :D keep up the good works!

Ah, the Rubix cube. It is a lot like the male anatomy. The longer you play with it, the harder it gets.
My nephew can solve one in 60 seconds. there's a pattern to it, but even when he explains it to me, I am mystified.
I know that expression well! There's a cube that is a permanent fixture on my desk, and periodically drives me mad. Ghere was a day I could solve them in 10 minutes usually, long gone now though!
Thanks for sharing this.

That cube is definitely hard to solve. Though I have been able to solve it oddly enough. xD But yeah can be a pain most of the time. ^^
Anyone got some C4?
That is how my dad solved his problem last time.

D'aww, way cute. I'd draw a piece of me having it solved, cause it's not too bad to solve it. It's all about memorizing a few simple algorithms. <3
I've never held a rubik's cube before. X3
Great job on the expression. ^^

Whenever I see one of those, I re-arrange the stickers on it.
i never liked rubix cubes and i never will either. the expression on his face is pricless
"Did you solve it?"
"What? Ho... i'm not solving it. I just love to spine the parts around for fun."

Lol. Good luck. Those are so hard to solve.
It looks great.

Sometimes, you're almost finished solving the Cube, when you lose track of what you're doing, and the result is a scrambed Cube again like this.
I've had a Rubik's Cube since 1981. All the stickers fell off from playing with it so much. I replaced them with Letraset stick-on letters. Whenever I see a scrambled cube, I feel a compulsion to solve it. I've refined my technique in recent years, but it's still not as fast as the methods shown in the various published cube-solving books. It's not that hard, once you know how.

I feel the same compulsion :D
I refined my method towards the direction of using as few different algorithms as possible. I get by with only 4 different basic algorithms (and a few minor variations of those), and I solve all but the last layer of arbitrarily large cubes with only a single 7-move algorithm.

I've had one of those things for a year now and I still can't solve it.
I got so close to solving one. I had all of it solved except for the four corners on one side. I ended up screwing it all up from there.
Whenever I see "almost....almost...", I think of this clip. Can't help it.

Hope he isnt colorblind. (is that like rubix cube hard mode?)
Rubik's cubes are quite an interesting thing, but, there are only, if I remember correctly, about 4 or 5 patterns you repeat, that is standard, reversed, mirrored, and mirrored reverse, and I do believe there is one more to that as well.
The rubix cube, the ultimate sanity test. When i was 15 back in the 80's, I could solve one in a little under a minute but now at 42..forget it. I can still solve one but it takes me forever to do so however if it happens to be a hacked cube which i'm afraid that foxie might have...might as well put it down
They used to have a cube for the colorblind that had numbers in addition to the colors which made it even more maddening that was unless you were color blind O.o

That expression, looking at the cube, I definitely know how that feels.
I remember getting a rubix cube for christmas and only messing it up like, two or three steps so I could solve it. Then, my sister got her hands on it and it has to be solved to this day X3
yes! i have one of those dastardly cubes !(although i have a friend who can solve them in under 3 minutes) he'sa pro
This one really is unsolvable. A corner with 3 reds? A corner with at least 2 greens? An edge with 2 white and one with 2 greens? This is one strange Rubik's Cube.
Haha, love the expression on his face. Last time I saw one was in the Will Smith movie "Pursuit of Happyness". Have you ever seen that?
Nice I can totally relate to this. Although every rubix cube I purchase ends up falling apart into pieces...
