Well, since the vote was a tie, and because I can, I've decided to upload a second song this month. Whether this trend will continue or not, I'm not sure. It's tempting, though.
This song is called "If I Could", and it was written and recorded in January of 1992, after I fell in love for the first time. And when I say I fell, I mean I fell. I was so in love that I was blind to obvious problems that were right in front of my face. The relationship lasted only a year, but in a way, almost 15 years later, I've never quite gotten over it. You may have already heard my song "There Are Times...", which I put up here on FA back in February, and which is about the end of this same relationship. Now you can hear what I was feeling at the beginning of it. Some of the lyrics are a little bit corny, but hey... this is how I felt at the time.
The music for this song is a little bit on the cheesy side, leaning towards '80s-inspired synth-pop. Much of the backing track was actually recorded with a handheld tape recorder on a floor display keyboard in an electronics store lol! Another layer of music and vocals was then added at home to get the 'finished' product. You know the drill by now... low-tech recording alert lol. Regardless, enjoy. ^_^
"If I Could" (5:19)
Written January 13 - 16, 1992
Recorded January 16 and/or 17, 1992
If I could find the words
To let you know just how I feel
Then I would talk until I burst
Until your fears were not so real
And if I could be with you
Every second of the day
I'd hold you in my arms
And let the hours drift away
If I could take the past
And kiss it all goodbye
Then we'd live just for the future
And forget about what made you cry
And if I could take my dreams
And make them all come true
Then I'd build us both a castle
And spend the rest of my life in love with you
If I could I'd stay with you forever
(repeat 4x)
If I could make you see
All the things you are to me
You'd never doubt yourself again
And end your insecurity
And if I could take the bad
And make it into good
I'd take all the pain you've ever felt
And turn it to happiness, if I could
If I could I'd stay with you forever
(repeat 4x)
We may never understand
This world we live in
But if you'll only hold my hand
I know we'll never give in
So don't ever have a doubt
Of whether my love is true
'Cause if I could I'd stop the world
Just to be with you
If I could I'd stay with you forever
If I could I'd stay with you forever
If I could I'd stay with you forever
I will stay with you forever

Thank you very much! I'm honored that you liked it! *^_^*
I voted for the acoustic guitar song, but I think I like this one better ^^ it's catchy~
and the story of its recording reminds me of the good ol' days when you could test out the electronic toys at Radio Shack...

Yes! I actually recorded parts for sveral songs this way. The people at Lechmere and Service Merchandise didn't like me very much lol! Thanks for your vote (no matter what the song!), the fave, and for the nice comment. ^_^
I remember hearing the story of this one... I like the keyboard sound. I like the lyrics a lot.
Thanks for the compliments... and for voting for this song! :D
Okay, finally listened to this one. It sounds great. And a great love song, going by the lyrics.
Thanks! Yeah, it's kind of a rarity in my collection, a love song written while I was actually *with* someone. I get into a relationship only about, oh, once every 10 years LOL... so I don't get a lot of chances to write a song like this.
its good but i think if you could time the lyrics a little better it'd be awsome
P.S. You put it as 90's instead of 80's which confused me a bit.

Thanks. It's about 15 years too late to do anything about the timing lol. I doubt I'll ever redo this song.
And despite it being 80's-ish, I tagged it as 90's because it was recorded in 1992. Thanks! ^_^
