Boo at the Zoo is a set of weekends at the Brookfield Zoo sanctioned
specifically for kids and adults to come to the zoo in their halloween
costume. It's been a long standing tradition of the Brookfield zoo and many
other zoos around the country.
This event has been an absolute BLAST for the last... 6 years so we're doing it again.
This is going to be primarily a fursuiting event. We
need people out of fursuit as well though, but this is just a forewarning -
you're not going to get to see every animal in the zoo. The fursuiters get
mobbed for photos and have to almost work as a team to escape an area
at times. If you have some sort of non-furry halloween costume or just want to wear ears and tail, the option is also welcome. Camera people are more than welcome as well ^^
Rules:
I'm saying this as the person who's run it 6 years and had to deal with zoo
security about 4 of those years.
1. We are just visitors to the zoo that happen to be in fursuits. Pretend
you are not in fursuit; would it be creepy if you were some dude in a superman suit? Than don't do it Remember we don't work for the zoo and we don't want to give the impression that we do.
2. Photographs with people are fine, again - let them come to you.
3. Notice who is around you, if you see the group leaving and you're stuck
with photos -- make the signal that you're out of time and need to catch up
to the group.
4. If you see fursuiters trapped that need to get out -- help them! Signal
that you need them to follow you! (THIS!!!!!)
5. Be aware of your surroundings. Are we blocking an exhibit? Are we
blocking the pathway? Don't be afraid to help keep us clear of this. If we in any way block areas, that's when security has a chat with me and I have to explain we're not crazy!
6, Don't play the 'Fursuits dont talk game' if ANYONE asks if you're
with the zoo staff.
7. This is a halloween/kid centered event. Scary costumes are fine. Make sure they're still... kid friendly.
Recommendations:
1. Bring a backpack with a water bottle and towels if you are fursuiting.
2. Snag a zoo map, you can get lost here
3. Be on time, some people are always late and can't find us (every) year.
We will not wait for you
4. Bring along a conbadge. If you're fursuiting, don't bring one that has
the potential to fall off if tugged. Print off a copy to avoid feeling bad
if it's lost.
