I've been returning to this picture too many times, bit by bit just to finish it. Now he can have a rest : P

As a sword and History enthusiast I greatly appreciate this image, for its extremely plausible and accurate clothing and weaponry. His swords hilt is long enough to accommodate both hands with a generous amount of space to use the backhand with substantial leverage. The pommel is shaped in a way to comfortably accommodate a hand grabbing it even lower, much like on real long swords.
http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/wp-co.....ll-800x600.jpg Note the long, smooth pommel.
The Cross guard isn't oversized and is creatively decorated and looks very aesthetically pleasing, without being way too over complicated and throwing off the balance of the sword.
The blade itself is shaped alot like the Albion Ringeck with a strong taper to the blade, making it obvious that it was designed for thrusting (Like most long swords) and also allowing it to still have a good bit of heft when cutting.
The Gambeson hes wearing isn't too far off from what someone would wear during the renaissance times, and is definitely very accurate as well as functional. Gambesons were worn under mail, but oftentimes were the only thing some men at arms would wear into battle.

Only problem that I can see is that the character doesn't seem to fond of taking care of his blade, as there are several nicks in the flat that could be fixed.
Overall this picture is gorgeously made, and shows that even if its fantasy, it can still be smart enough to be made extremely practical, and I can really appreciate artwork that takes care to make sure that the characters are using weapons that wouldn't immediately get them killed on the battlefield. 10/10

Thanks for the insightful comment : ) Although I just meant for his shirt to be simply that. Not under armor clothing. How do you fix nicks then? Something I should probably learn at this point.
Rolled edges and nicks in the edge and flat can be repaired by a blacksmith with some extra material handy, but if the damage is bad enough that repairing it could hurt the structural integrity of the bade, it may be better to just reforge the blade entirely.
Gambesons oftentimes were also used as just noblemans walking around attire, although they get hot sometimes. ^^
