Here is the cover I did a few weeks ago for
kyell 's new novel, Out of Position! I also did the interior illustrations (you can see one of 'em here) and some chapterhead pics. :]
If you like, you can read some of the first chapters of the book on Kyell Gold's website, over yonder!
It's due to be released in January at FC and will be available online from Sofawolf after that! :]

You got the atmosphere in this PERFECTLY spot on. I looked at it and immediately remembered my old school's football field. And the fall atmosphere is awesome, you can almost feel a little nip in the air and smell the burning leaves, you know? And the two characters are absolutely adorable, such a happy/cute moment. :) Jeese, FANTASTIC. <3
Jeebus the detail on this is incredible. I adore the characters of course, but the background really reminds me of back home at my high school. It recalls many old memories. I loved the sketch but would not have predicted liking the finished version this much more. Excellent and amazing work as always =)
Oh, btw, forgot to mention that I noticed a difference between this piece and the chapterhead pic you linked to. The eyes are colored in this version (stands out much moreso) and not in the "out of position" pic. A minor detail, just thought I'd mention. This one's obviously much more detailed and they're in sunlight ;)
This piece is really beautiful. The detail of the texture on your anthros always blows me away, as does the detail of the background and the expressions. The atmosphere of the piece is lovely as well. After reading the two chapters of Kyell's story I have to say that your representation of these characters is absolutely perfect for how i imagined them.
One thing I think your work could benefit from is using more defined light sources and shadows. From the shading of the characters it is a little difficult to tell where the light source is coming from, but with a blue sky as clear as that I would expect to see more defined cast shadows on the two characters and on the undersides of their tails, arms, etc. For instance, the fox's right arm would be casting a noticeable shadow across the tiger's shoulders (or in a similar position, depending on where you imagine the sun to be). I hope you do not mind the critique - your work is already amazing, but I do think it could further benefit from an increase in light and shadow definition.

While this does seem to be a clean piece, there's one part that seems a bit odd to me. It's not so much the fact that the fox isn't wearing pants, but there's a small detail that I can't decide if it's part of the tiger's jersey...or part of the fox. I guess it is supposed to be part of the jersey's neckline, but the shape and color are just a bit suspicious, and hint that the fox really is enjoying this.
I received this book as a Christmas gift in '09 from my loving boyfriend...It was absolutely great, and Kyell actually knows a thing or two about Football. Now what leaves ME curious is what happens AFTER...there going to be a sequel, Ky? Get Blotch to do the art again!

Thank you for signing my copy! It was one of the most special and thoughtful gifts I have ever received, and the fact that you guys took the time to do that means a whole lot to me.

First off: I greatly dislike football.
Secondly, I LOVED this book and this cover! I bought it at FWA as a lark, something I figured might be a slightly decent read, and I was blown away, with it's great characters and fantastic insert pictures, it was one of my best buys at FWA.
This pic is beautiful, with fantastic colours and tons of spirit =)

I for one cant believe I never commented on this piece. I love this picture. Its very cute and is a nice teasing allure for the content inside.
I also loved the book very much. It had a great story and flowed well. I couldn't put it down. I just wish they would have had sex in at least ONE different position than they did. :-P
