The best time to visit Alaska for Aurora watching is March or September, there's less clouds in the sky and more hours of darkness! I remember the first time I saw the lights, it was blue purple and green swirly paisley like things, it was amazing, I stood there for an hour before I could tear myself away long enough to go get my sister out of bed so she could see them too! I lived in Fairbanks, AK in 2003, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. If you ever get the opportunity to visit, take it! You'll talk about it for the rest of your life!
