Not sure how well this one reads but it was fun to make. Also how the hell are bird anthros supposed to work? The only thing that seems mechanically solid is for them to have wing arms but not having hands kinda limits things, and HAVING hands makes the wing bits look like non-functional drapery. Back wings seem sorta plausible but I don't think they look nearly as cool. I need more bird dudes in my life but the struggle is real :[

The main issue with arm-wings with hands is how the shoulder joint would work. For them to properly fly they'd have to be able to bend their arms wayyyyy back, so how would that joint work? Alternative like you said is back wings, but then their back bonestructure and physiology would be all sorts of fucked up, not to mention balance issues.

Obviously the answer is some weird fleshy feathers that you can use to grab things with (like yours truly has)!

In Poppy O'Possum the bird characters have regular wings with cool floating sci-fi hands at the wrists that can be activted when needed. Probably my favourite non-realistic solution to date.
You could always go with their great great many times great grandfathers' hands....

Yeah birds are in this species where I'm like 'ok how I do them?' ^^;

Yeah, back wings are more traditional, but hardly plausible. Don't forget - all the muscle tissue for wings needs to attach to the breastbone. Attaching them to the back, near or to the scapula, would make them almost unusable without further modification to the skeletal and muscular systems, and we want to keep this as simple as possible, right?
Of course, what you've got here is adorable and awesome - and since it's fantasy, anyway, you don't need to make any changes at all, if this is the aesthetic you want. If you want to try for more realism, though, I'd look into building the skeleton to accommodate four arms, and make one set of arms wings. There's some great art of four-armed humanoids out there, and some of it even looks structurally sound, and since bird wings are similar enough to arms it might be worth looking into.

It's always a pleasure seeing new art from you lofs! Love the little details, really adds to the immersion I think :)
As for bird people, I think it's mostly up to aesthetic preferences... back wings, arm wings, semi-wings, etc etc. There's no real correct answer when you're dealing with a fantasy setting, and it's silly to assume there is a more "correct" way than the other.
But that's just like, opinions man, do what you feel like. Keep up the wonderful art! <3

Maybe if you gave the anthro-birds a thinner arm, extended thicker "pinky" to extend the feathers all the way out, and three opposable finger/talons it might be more functional that way.

Was going to post this image myself. Anatomically speaking for avians, the painting has the most "correct" design of all the ideas presented, sans the total number of phalanges. Or... I guess as correct as a fantasy bird person's anatomy can be. Regular arms with feathers coming off of them (drapery or otherwise), and with hands at the end. It's 'natomy, yo. :O
I'll soon be a Bird person myself, I like biiiirds!
And I understand that point too, others asked the same, Some would say it works because logic kinda not necessary in it, some would find Technology or magic to make it work, or both, But I have an idea... I just need to get it drawn X3

THAT BIRB IS OFFERING YOU A SHINY.
YOU BETTER TAKE IT. HE REALLY WANTS TO GO IN!
As for birb limbs.
If you can figure out how to fit it to your style then wing-hands tend to be beyond gorgeous.
Definitely my favorite way for anthro birds to be done up.
Been compiling lists of examples for artists that I commission because not everyone is wiling to attempt them.
In order from wing-like to hand-like.

The way I have been describing it is the following.
The best(opinion) wing-hand is one that acts exactly like a normal hand would.
However, what sets it apart is that this hand, this arm, is covered by a layer of feathers.
Almost like applying a new skin to a wireframe model.
Each finger corresponds to one of the primary feathers at the end of the wing.
These 5 primary feathers are the only ones to move and grip as a hand would. (Though many compromise with 4 instead, similar to many animated shows resorting to 4 fingers.)
The rest of the wing acts as any other wing would.

trying to bribe your way into a strip-club? It seems silly to me, but then, I have no sex drive xD
as for the wing-arm problem, i think the most realistic-looking solution is this right here: http://www.skindeepcomic.com/archiv.....cks-nightmare/

What you could do is to go with with more like a bats wing than with a birds wing.
I don't know if the link will work. https://twistedcraftylittlethings.f.....ate-499797.png
They have that claw at the wrist on their wing for grabbing but instead of having just a claw you could have a more developed hand.
