"What the hell?" the kangaroo muttered, his large feetpaws becoming stuck on the ground where he stood. It felt cold, and soft as it pushed through his toes, seeping upwards as if he was sinking down. Why the solid marble floor would have something to stick his paws into was a mystery, one he was certain to find out.
By instinct he pulled upwards, to remove them from the mire, but they held fast, flat against the floor. "What the actual hell?" he grunted, placing both hands on a single large haunch and pulling up. His efforts were in vain and in fact the problem was getting worse. His knees and haunches no longer responded as well to movement, seemingly as stuck as his feetpaws.
A shiver ran down his spine, realizing that his feetpaws and lower torso were now... odd. Cold was the wrong word, they felt present but somehow oddly far away, compressed and tight. His brows ruffle in confusion as his tail joined in this sensation as well, loosing touch with the world around him.
The roo's breath caught in his chest, leaving him stunned. Panicked attempts to draw another breath did nothing. He felt his chest, but instead of a coat of fur, his paws were met with a smooth glass-like surface. 'S-something's wrong.' he thought, unable to speak due to his chest changing into something... unnatural.
His handpaws pulled away from his smooth chest, elbows and wrists, thumb and fingers stopping all movement. It was his first look as what happened, a dark colored, almost black tone had replaced the glorious rust and creamy tan colored fur, the brownish markings that had his finger and paw tips were the dark grey.
His entire body had turned into this material, whatever it was, and it was fast approaching his neck. The roo felt like a wave of water was pressing down on him, bubbling up closer and closer to his head. Throat, neck, cheeks, tongue, all were swept under the water swell that held him captive. Eyes, muzzle, nose and ears soon followed. Soon the kangaroo was completely paralyzed, held in place by some mysterious force.
Though he was motionless, and every part of his body transformed into an immobile material, held in pose as his body solidified. He was still very much alive though. The darkened eyes provided a darkened vision, enough to see in general lighting conditions, but nearly blind with ambient lighting. The noise he heard was muffled, as if coming through an earfull of water, it was there, but just as his body, it had been altered.
"What a wonderful piece." a muffled voice spoke. "A bit surprised with the pose, but with what happened to you it is more than understandable." It came closer, but from behind.
The roo felt a warm hand touch his tail, where it met his body. It was a rather odd feeling, he could feel the heat pass from the paw into his body, crawling deeper and deeper into form and radiating outward from within. Even as the paw left, the warmth remained seated deeply.
"I am sure you have a myriad of questions-" the voice floated into the kangaroo's vision. He was met with a rather odd looking donkey. Dressed in a dark grey and black pinstriped suit, the matching jacket half-covering a dark leather corset hugging his waist tightly. His mane grown long and swept over in a fashion proper for a gentleman, gold rimmed glasses sat on his wide muzzle bridge. "Ask your questions." He grinned, exposing his equine teeth.
The donkey smiled, staring at the kangaroo. There was a silence that lasted for several minutes, neither of the two broke it. It was however broken by the only one who was capable of speech. "Well, it is such a shame that you have nothing to ask. One would think that such a stark and sudden change into an inanimate object would spawn a plethora of questions. 'What happened? Why can't I move?' Those kinds of questions."
The donkey moved out of sight again, but came back with a grey strap and wrapped it around the under arms and chest of the kangaroo, the metal hooks on the back clasped together and hitched to a winch overhead.
"Sadly..." he paused as a winch motor droned overhead, the kangaroo lifting from the ground and tilting sideways into the air. The suspended kangaroo began to move backwards, across the large room to a round object sitting in the rear of the building. "...I can't answer any questions you don't ask. But..."
The kangaroo was slowly lowered down onto the barrel shaped object, perfectly centered on it. The roo felt... heavier, more grounded, more stable than on the round circle where he stood. It had attached itself to the thing he was standing on, beyond anyway he could comprehend.
"But..." the donkey continued, removing the strap and retreating the winch back up to the cieling track. "You will have a very..." The winch moved back down to the area where the kangaroo was, hovering above the hole in the floor. "...Very long time to find the answers to all your questions."
"For now, you will remain back here. With all of the rest of the statues." The donkey grinned, turning his back on the kangaroo and walking from the large room.
The lights clicked off one by one starting at the end of the room and proceeding down. When the last light's turn came, it stopped, remained on. Instead of turning off, two adjoining, yet smaller lights flickered to life. They cast a soft glow on the rest of the area to his right and left, revealing more... statues.
Equines of all sizes, unable to determine a species due to the sweeping changes made over them. Canines, felines and the odd variety of other species that were easily recognizable by their uniqueness were placed to the left and right, facing inwards towards the center of the large area. It was as if they were faced towards each other, all caught in different poses, posed like a child put their dolls away, but expecting the imagination to carry on the conversations from before.
Some seemed to have posed for the transformation, others were caught in a fearful pose, sensing what was coming. The roo and a few others were trapped mid-surprise, before the terror had time to grip their body and get them to try and struggle out of it. He met eyes with several of the other statues, he could... sense that they were like him, trapped in a sensory stifled hell. Some of them, he felt, wanted to be there, wanted to be like that. He didn't, but there was no way to change that, ever. The technology that held him there as stone was irreversible, permanent. The world was going to change, he wasn't.
