Hi. This is a little tutorial about how to paint in cell shading style (at least the way I do it). I chose this format this time because it quite more practical to have every instructions and examples in just one place instead having them in a flash archive. Hope you find it useful.
If you want to try using my sketch, check the attachment, I have included a psd file with the sketch in his own layer in my patreon post (is public so don't worry)

PS: sorry is the explanations are not always clear, english is not my main languaje.

wow, thank you soo much for that tutorial dude. Actually that will be very helpful to overcome myself.
Thank you for posting this, I've always had trouble with shading so now maybe I can improve a bit :D
I just love your art style,
of cellshadding to painting, there is so much fun on your artwork ♥ ♥ ♥
Really, I'm always curious how you paint the lights.. because this lion is very curious about art.
But never meet nothing like your style... and I was just searching on your gallery about cellshading.
Because most of the artists use 'multiply' layers of shadding,
you almost not use it, but you use 'overlay' layers, its really singular, its just amazing! X'3
what was it? Did you read my mind? lmao
Your anatomy is very good too, congratulations and thank you too! :'3

I really love the effort you go to to make tutorials like this. They're wonderful and extremely useful. Thank you!
thanks for this. I'm really new at digital drawing so things like this help keep me from feeling overwhelmed.
This really is fantastic. Thanks ever so much for taking the time to put it together! Very handy! :3
For the coloring part, if you use colors from a ref, can you just use the brightness tool to make the colors darker? Or would that end up looking bad?
I'm not sure, but probably if you use just the brightness tool it will ends up bad, I prefer to explore the colors I could use before start painting. Maybe you can use the brightness tool, but you will need to lower saturation and contrast too.
Pictures tell more than text. And the steps are numerous enough to help others understand. Thanks :D
This has been very helpful since I don't do a ton of cell shading but have been wanting to get more into it! Thank you!
Would you suggest experimenting with grayish colors other than grayish blue if the blue doesn't work with the colors of the character?
You can use the color you think most convenient according to the ambientation of the picture.
WOW!
I always have problem in coloring ^^; Thank you so much for tutorial ^w^ I will try to do it from time to time to improve my coloring =3

I must ask, what version of SAI painter are you using? Overlay in my version rather than giving an opaque consistency to the color gives it a transparent color without light value ink like property. Screen seems to give it the added light quality.
I have tested out this shading style, and have permanently adapted to it! Thank you so much for this really helpful tutorial. Have a look at what I made here from learning from this tutorial.

Thank you so much, nice and clear steps! Really appreciate it, I love celshading and have tried getting it for quite some time but not known how to approach it with furry work^^ Thank you so much!
It's really awesome seeing how other people cell shade, thank you for this tutorial!
