A fragment of an altar stone that was recently uncovered in the Roman fortress known as Brementennacum (Currently Ribchester) on display at the Ribchester Roman museum. Although only a fragment, it is a rather important discovery, as it allows us to identify one of the tenants of the settlement, a Roman standard bearer, who went by the name Patrius Lamia. His name is one of the few to be identified from this fortress.
Altars would be dedicated to the Roman gods and placed before the temples, and were used to offer sacrifices, and to thank the gods for assisting those who had asked for their help.
