One spring morning in Adventure Bay, Skye was helping Roader, Rocky, and Rubble pack for a digging trip. They were going to dig in a cave for stones for a new building, and they were going to spend the night near it. "I can't wait to get digging for that stone!" Said Rubble excitedly. "Heheheh, yep! We all know how much you love to dig Rubble" Said Roader. Skye brought a spade that Herbie lent her to Roader. "Thanks Skye! It sure was nice of Herbie to let me use his spade" Roader said. "Yes it was. He says he'll just get a new one if that one gets damaged" Skye stated. "Well if it does, I'll fix for him" Said Rocky. "Don't lose it! Reuse it!" Roader smiled. "I think you're all set!" Said Skye. "Alright! You guys ready to go?" Asked Rubble. "We're ready!" Said Rocky as he jumped into his recycling truck. "Let's hit the road!" Said Roader as he got in his tow truck. And then they all set off. "Good luck!" Shouted Skye, then she went back into the lookout. When she got inside, she saw Aid from the back laying down. She frowned and walked over to him. "Hey Aid, are you ok?" She asked him. Aid responded with a sigh. "Is something wrong?" She asked him again. Aid then turned his head to her and gave her a brief, sad look. Then he turned back around. "Umm Aid. You're making me a little worried. Is something wrong with you?" She asked. At last, Aid spoke out, but a little quietly. "I'm going to miss Roader" He stated. "Aww Aid, Roader won't be gone for long" Said Skye trying to comfort him. Aid slowly got up and sighed. "I know, but being that he's like a brother to me, I'll miss him greatly" Aid said sadly. Skye patted his back. "Cheer up Aid. Before you know it, Roader will be back" She said. Aid made a very light smile before walking out of the lookout. He went to his pup house and laid inside it. "*sigh* At least I don't have to worry about going too fast on his scooter" Aid muttered, trying to think about a positive side. "Or worry about him giving me a tickle attack" He sighed. But Aid felt sadder still. He then got inside his ambulance and started it up just as Marshall walked out. "Hey Aid! Where are you going?" He asked. "I'm going out and about, just to get a breeze or two" Aid sighed. "You look sad, what's wrong?" Marshall asked. "I just miss Roader" Aid replied. "Oh, I see. Well , you want me to come with you?" Marshall asked. "Why not?" Aid sighed. "You are one of my closest friends. So hop in" He said. Marshall smiled and jumped into Aid's ambulance, then Aid drove off.
Meanwhile, Rocky, Rubble, and Roader made it to the cave. They already headed inside and started digging. "Got plenty of stones already!" Rubble cheered. "Good! I'll get them out into Rocky's truck" Roader said as he barked out his scooter, and carried them with a bucket that they brought. "Let's dig it!" Said Rubble as he continued digging out more stones. Elsewhere, Marshall and Aid where still out on the road. Aid let out a sigh once more. "I miss how Roader loves to drive on roads" He said. Marshall looked at Aid. He wanted to make him smile. "Hey Aid, don't worry about it too much. Its not like Roader's gone forever" He said. Aid gained a small smile, but still felt a little down. He drove off to an area unknown to him, and Marshall. They stopped there and walked around for a while. Marshall saw some flowers. "*sniff, sigh* These flowers smell pretty!" He said happily. Aid walked over to him and saw the flowers. "Yyyep, more beautiful than ever. Herbie would really love to see those" Aid said in a monotone. Marshall was surprised by Aid's change in attitude. He then saw a tree that had some pears on it. Hey Aid, you wanna pear?" Marshall asked. Aid looked at Marshall, then the tree. "Sure, why not" He said, still in a monotone. Marshall shrugged and tried to jump for a pear. He jumped several times, but he couldn't reach them. "*pant, pant* Phew! This is a little tough! Hey Aid, can you give me a paw with this?" Marshall asked Aid, who was just sitting in the grass. Aid got up and walked over to Marshall and let him climb on top of him. "Almost. Alllmost" Said Marshall as he tried to grab a pear. Then all of a sudden, Aid felt the ground rumble beneath his paws. "Ummm Marshall?" Aid said worriedly. "Don't worry Aid, I'll get you a pear in no time!" Said Marshall as he continued trying to reach for one. But Aid got more worried as the ground rumble more. "I-I think we should move" He said. "Why? Marshall asked. "B-because-" Aid was about to say, before the ground suddenly sank into a hole, taking Marshall and Aid with it. They both screamed in shock at this event as they fell down into the hole.
Marshall and Aid were unconscious after the impact, but fortunately, they were both ok. "Ohhhhh what happened?" Marshall wondered as he woke up. He looked around and saw Aid covering his eyes in fear. "Hey Aid, what happened to the ground? Are you ok? Marshall as the scared retriever. "N-n-n-no, I'm n-n-n-not ok. I'm v-v-v-v-very s-s-s-s-scared about b-b-b-being d-down here!" Aid shuttered nervously. Marshall walked over to his close friend and patted his back. "Don't worry Aid, we'll be ok" He said. "But, I don't know how we'll get out of here" Marshall says while looking up at the area they fell down. "Th-th-there could b-be b-b-b-bears down here!" Aid shivered. "I'm sure they're not" Said Marshall. "W-w-well, how will we get out?" Asked Aid. Marshall thought about this for a second. "Let's go down this path" He suggested. "Maybe there's an exit at the end of it" And Marshall got up and started walking down the cavern, but Aid didn't follow him. He still had his eyes closed and was still shaking in fear. "Come on Aid. If there is an exit, we'll be free again" Said Marshall as he smiled. Aid looked up at him with a nervous look in his eyes. "A-are you s-sure?" He asked him. "Positive!" Declared Marshall. "I hope" He whispered. Aid then got up and followed Marshall down the cave.
After a while, Aid was getting a little tired of walking. "Hey Marshall, can we stop here for a while? My paws are aching a little" Aid said with a bit of shyness. "Ok. I could use a break as well" Agrees Marshall as he sits down. Aid laid down on the ground and let out a sigh. "Now I miss everyone else!" He said sadly. "I have only you, which isn't bad, but I don't know if we'll see everyone else again" Aid moaned. Marshall expressed concern over his shy friend. "Just don't worry Aid. We'll get out of here, somehow" Marshall uttered. At another place, Roader, Rocky, and Rubble were finishing up the days work of collecting stone. "All done for now!" Declared Roader. "Let's get these last piles of stone back to your rig and my truck Rubble" Said Rocky. "Ok Rocky!" Said Rubble happily. After they did so, they started their vehicles to take the stone to the building. "Ryder called me and told me that Smokie will help us take the stones out of the cave faster" Informed Roader to Rocky and Rubble. "Great! We're gonna need all the help we can get" Said Rocky. Rubble looked at Roader. "Do you think Aid will be okay with your absence Roader?" He asked him. "I hope so Rubble, because Aid feels a little bit more secure around me, but he feels just as such with Marshall, so I'm not too concerned" Explained Roader. Then, they all set off with their delivery of stone.
Back inside the cavern, Marshall and Aid had resumed walking down the path that hopefully led to an exit. Mashall started to feel a little doubtful about there being an exit at the end of the cavern. "Soooo how much longer before we reach the end of the cave Marshall?" Aid asked. "Well, umm, well. I don't think we have much longer Aid" Marshall answered before chuckling nervously. Aid wondered if Marshall was serious, but he continued walking behind him. They eventually came to a wet part of the cave. It was pretty slippery, so the two pups had to watch their footing. "W-w-whoa!" Marshall exclaimed as he slipped and fell on his stomach. "Oh, are you ok Marshall?" Aid asked as he ran over to his friend, but then slipped just like Marshall did. "Ohhhh Whooaaa!!" Aid shouted as he crashed into Marshall. "Oof! Marshall exclaimed as Aid came in contact with him. "S-s-sorry M-Marshall" Aid said shyly as he blushed. "It's ok Aid. At least we got past that slippery part of this cave" He said. Then they got up and started walking again. It was getting late, Marshall and Aid were getting tired again. "Ohhhh, I need a break" Aid groaned as his paws were feeling more sore than ever. He barked out his first aid kit and put some ointment on his paws to help with the pain. "I think we should call it a night" Confirmed Marshall. "But, but, what if there ARE bears down here?!" Aid asked worriedly. Marshall giggled a little. "Don't worry Aid. I'm sure there are no bears down here" Marshall said. "Let's go on ahead and rest" And with that, Marshall laid down and drifted off to sleep. But Aid was still being overly worried about there possibly being bears in the cavern with them. After about an hour of nervousness, he eventually got tired and fell asleep.
Morning came, and Marshall was the first to wake up inside the cave. "*yawn* Hey Aid, you ready to start looking for a way out of this cave?" Marshall asks while gently nudging Aid, who was still asleep. Aid woke up with a long yawn and stretched his legs. "Y-yeah, let's go" He said with a tired tone. They set off once more to look for a way out. At the building, Rocky, Roader, and Rubble were getting ready to make their last delivery of stone. "You guys ready to start digging again?" Asked Rubble while wagging his tail. Roader was still tired. "Aahhhhh, yep. I'm ready" He said while rubbing his eyes. "Come on! Smokie is supposed to meet us at the entrance" Said Rocky. And the three pups headed over to the cave. Meanwhile Marshall and Aid found another intersection in the cavern. "Oh no, another separate pathway" Aid sighed. "Let's go left" Said Marshall. "I-I was thinking maybe we should head right" Suggested Aid. "Well, ok. If you think so" Said Marshall as he and Aid walked down the right path. Soon, they found a group of bats that were sleeping. Aid shrieked a little causing Marshall to jump. "Shhh, they'll wake up" He whispered to Aid. They slowly crawled away from the bats, until Aid felt a sneeze coming up. "Uh ohhh, aaa, aaaa, aaaAA" Aid went as his sneeze was building up. "Oh no! Don't sneeze Aid. Don't sneeze!" Marshall urgently whispered. But Aid's sneeze continued to build up, and just when he was about to release it, Marshall quickly ran over to him and put his paw on his nose. "*sigh* Thank you Marshall" Sighed Aid. Marshall smiled and took his paw off Aid's nose and resumed crawling quietly. "AAAAAAACCHHOOOO!!" Aid sneezed loudly. Marshall looked back with a frightened expression, then the bats woke up and swarmed all around the area. "GAAAAAAHHH!" Screamed Aid as he took off. "Wait for me!" Marshall shouted as he ran after Aid. Aid was in a state of panic, he ran even faster than his own liking and dashed into the shadows without looking. And then all of a sudden, Aid smacked right into something and got knocked out of the darkness. "Ow!" He exclaimed. "Ouch!" Said a voice. Aid groaned as he recovered from the impact just as Marshall ran up to him. "Aid! Are you ok?" He asked. "Juuust fine" Aid replied with his eyes still a little wonky. "I feel like I hit something, or someone" Said Aid. "Owww, you did hit someone" Said the same voice. "Who's that?" Asked Marshall. "I-I-I don't know" Responded Aid. "*giggles* You do now!" Said the voice as a female Yorkie came out of the shadows. Aid blushed out of embarrassment. "Oh my! I'm s-so sorry! I-I didn't mean to run into you like that" Aid exclaimed. The Yorkie giggled. "It's ok. What were you running from?" She asked. "Bats" Answered Marshall. "Oh really? I think bats are kinda cool. Well, you certainly went frantic upon seeing them huh?" Said the Yorkie. "What are your names?" She asked. "I'm Marshall, and this is Aid" Introduced Marshall. "H-hi" Said Aid meekly. "Hi, nice to meet you two! My name is Fauna" The Yorkie introduces. "Well Fauna, what brings you down here?" Asked Marshall. I came down here to look at bats, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I guess you two beat me to them" Fauna explained and giggled. Marshall and Aid laugh. "So what brings you two down here? She asks the two pups. "A sinkhole brought us down here" Explained Aid. "And now we're stuck in this cave" Added Marshall. "S-say, do you know the way out of here? Cause we're lost" Said Aid. Fauna frowned and looked around the cave. "Sadly, so am I. I sorta, didn't plan out what would happen once I got in" She said. "We can look for a way out together!" Suggested Marshall. "Really?!" Fauna asks while wagging her tail. "Sure! We can't just leave you here all by yourself without knowing the way out" Aid told her. Fauna jumped for joy and playfully tackled Aid and Marshall. "Hey! Did I say something wrong?" Aid asked nervously. Then Fauna started to playfully gnaw on Marshall's right ear. "Ow!" Marshall exclaimed. "Hehe, I guess she likes to play rough" Said Marshall. Then she moved on to Aid, and moved her paws all around his belly. "Hehehehehe! Hey Fahauna! That tickles!" Aid giggled. After that, Fauna stopped play fighting with the two pups and giggled a little nervously. "Sorry, I do like to play a little rough sometimes" She stated. "Oh it's no big deal" Said Marshall. "So, how's about we look for a way out of here?" He asked Fauna. Fauna nodded and she followed Marshall and Aid through the cavern.
Elsewhere, Rubble, Roader, and Rocky were still digging up stone. And with Smokie there, they made the traveling part of the job twice as effective. "Here you go Smokie! More stones" Said Rubble as his shovel unloaded a pile of stones into Smokie's miniature tender. "Thanks Rubble! Said Smokie and he ran off with his tender full of stone rolling behind him. When he returned, he started to smell something. "Hey, do you guys smell that?" he asked the other three pups. They each took a couple sniffs in the air. "I don't smell anything" Said Rocky. "Why, do you smell something?" Smokie took another long sniff at the air. "It smells like, a Dalmatian, a golden retriever, and a...Yorkie?" He pondered. "Hey! Marshall is a Dalmatian, and Aid is a golden retriever! But I've never known any Yorkie's" Said Rubble. "Where are those scents coming from Smokie?" Roader asked. Smokie began sniffing around the area, and eventually got a stronger scent coming from another path. "It's coming from over here!" He said. "What if Aid and Marshall are down here as well?" Rocky questioned. "I don't know for sure, but Smokie says he smells a Dalmatian, a golden retriever, and a Yorkie. So let's see who they are!" Said Roader as he stopped digging with Herbie's spade and went up to Smokie. "Follow me!" Smokie declared as he ran down the path. Rubble, Rocky, and Roader howled as they ran after the beagle.
In another part of the cave, Marshall and Aid were talking with Fauna while walking. "So you really love animals huh?" Asked Aid. "You bet! There are so many different types! And they each are so different! You have a small and quick mouse. You have a big and tough elephant. You have a soft and cozy cat. And many more!" Fauna listed. Aid and Marshall giggled. "Wow! You really do love animals!" Said Marshall. Fauna smiled, then she felt like she heard something. "Hey you two, did you hear that?" She asked them as she stops walking. Aid and Marshall lifted up their ears. "I-I think so" Aid replied. "It sounds like...someone calling for me and you Aid" Marshall stated. "Let's go! Maybe it's our friends!" Aid said while wagging his tail. Marshall nodded and ran down the cave with Aid. Fauna followed behind them. Eventually, they reached yet another intersection. "Oh no not another one of these!" Aid gasped. "How do we know where to go?" Asked Marshall, before Fauna let out a loud bark. She then repeated in an attempt to get Marshall and Aid's friends to hear her. At the other part of the cave, Rocky hears something. "Hey guys! I hear barking!" He says to the others. "I hear it too" Said Rubble. Smokie got an idea. "*bark* Whistle!" And Smokie gave his whistle a long loud blow, loud enough for Marshall, Aid, and Fauna to hear where it's coming from. "This way!" Said Fauna as she pointed to the left path. Aid and Marshall smiled at each other and ran after Fauna down the path. Roader looked down their left path, and using his great sense of vision, sees Marshall, Aid, and Fauna running out of the darkness. "*gasp* It's Aid! And Marshall! And that Yorkie Smokie sniffed out!" Roader exclaimed. The three pups ran to the other four happily. "Roader! Roader! I missed you so much!" Aid cries as he runs over and hugs his brotherly like friend. "*giggles* I'm glad to see you're ok Aid" Roader remarked while rubbing Aid's back. "Marshall!!" Roader, Rocky, and Rubble said happily. "Hi Rocky! Hi Rubble! Hi Roader!" Marshall said to his three friends. He then turned towards Smokie. "Hey Smokie! How are you doing?" He asked. "Great now knowing that you and Aid are ok" Smokie replied. "H-hi Rubble, Rocky, and Smokie. I'm glad to see you just as much as I am to see Roader" Aid said. "And we're glad to see you too Aid!" Said Rocky. "Yeah, I was worried that you'd be ok after Roader left" Rubble replied. Aid scratched the back of his head. "Heh, y-yeah, I was pretty saddened, but he's here now! And so are you guys!" Aid said. Smokie looked over at Fauna. "So, who's your new friend over here?" He asked Marshall and Aid. "Oh, that's Fauna. We found her down here a little while before you guys found us" Explained Aid. "And she is who really helped up find you guys!" Adds Marshall as he smiles towards Fauna. "Nice to meet you Fauna!" Said Rocky. "Any friend of Marshall and Aid's is of friend of ours!" Said Rubble. "She was looking for bats to watch, but she didn't know the way out once she got in" Aid told the four pups. "Well, there's the way out!" Declared Smokie. "I'm glad they found you. Who knows how you would've managed being down here all by yourself" Roader said. "Oh it wasn't that big of a deal" Said Fauna. "Nevertheless, they found you, and now you don't have to worry about being lost anymore" Smokie said to Fauna. Fauna smiled at Smokie, then to Rocky, Roader, and Rubble, and finally to Aid and Marshall. "Well, I'm glad it all worked out for you guys. I guess I'll be going now" She said as she walked away, feeling a little disappointed.
Aid frowned. "W-w-wait! Where are you going?" Aid asked. "You guys found each other, so I'm going to see if I can find another place to stay" Fauna explained. "You could stay with us" Marshall offered. "Oh I couldn't. I might just be in the way" Fauna replied. "No you won't. Our friend Ryder would be pleased to have another friendly pup around" Stated Rocky. "He would?" Fauna asked. "Sure he would!" Responded Roader. Fauna once again smiled. "Oh thank you guys! Thank you!" She cheered. "Say, you wanna help us finish digging out these stones?" Rubble asked Fauna. "With Aid and Marshall now here, are work can be done quicker!" He added. "Yeah, you'd be such a good pup!" Marshall said. "Whaddaya say?" Asked Smokie. Fauna looked at Aid and Rocky who nodded in agreement. "Okay! I'll help!" She said with a serious smile. The other pups howled and happily began working together with their new friend Fauna to get stones delivered to the building.
The End
