Cheetahs do it out of necessity, because they have such a low hunting success rate. Also, their partners are usually their siblings. Domestic cats in cities living right next to each other is an inevitability, because there are just so damn many of them. That about tigers being social is news to me.
It's fascinating to read all the different interpretations of his expression. Some think he looks angry, but that's not what I see. He doesn't seem to be trying to intimidate anyone.
What I see on his face is a frown of uncertainty and anxiety. He's about to face a threat on which he has no idea how to overcome it.

Like the scars.. look pretty nicely done. ^^ Love the little braids and twists in the mane too, and the white outlines on the brows make for a neat effect.
