One thing I remembered facepalming to as a kid was this, when the newer games came out he'd throw out /all/ of his companions everyone grew to like, just so he could be like "WOW THESE /NEW/ POKEMON ARE SO MUCH BETTER THEN THOSE OLD ONES I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER /NEW/ POKEMON" marketing at it's best
