James Christopher AKA Operator #5. The spy extraordinere. He was one of the individuals responsible for the eradication of Nazi infiltrators and insiders all across the US during WWII. While soldiers, robots, zombies and supers fought on foreign fronts, he worked to keep the home front safe. After the war, he was made a high ranking member of UNCLE where he trained future spies like Nethanial "Loner" Carter. But then President Judson Hammond put his secret plan into action, obtaining full power, and the Union States of America along with the United Kingdom became StateSOC Oceania with Judson as it's Big Brother. The new Regime began to purge many of its gifted and super powered citizens, an operation James was supposed to helm. His response was to shoot his way out of MinTRUTHand go off the grid, helpless to watch as another tyrant had his way, and after fighting so long to bring another down. However, years later, he joined the rapidly growing resistance, the Brotherhood. He was instrumental in obtaining blueprints for the new ECOT city designs which were used to upgrade most of the major cities all over Oceania. It was tragic that he had to basically lead one of the last vigilantes, a man called Kent Alan AKA the Shroud to his death in order to succeed.
During the uprising, he stayed back at the secret compound in the New York Metropolis and coordinated the multiple attacks across Oceania. He saw the fight for freedom start, but he never saw it end. Though Police were approaching his location rapidly. He could also feel his old heart giving away after so many decades of fighting, the stress, the cigarettes and overall draining life. Making sure that he was alone and that the rest of his comrades were at a safe distance, the moment the Thought Police showed up inside the hideout, he popped open his skull ring. The potent poison worked, even after all these years. He died, taking nearly two fifths of New York Metropolis' police force with him.
After the uprising toppled the party and the rebuilding began, his position at UNCLE was filled by two men, Richard "Rick" Ire (who later left to join and eventually run SHEELD) and war veteran Rodger E Hogan. However, James Christopher is still honored for his service and his part in deposing not one but two dictators. His statue stands in the entrance hall of UNCLE to this very day.

Love your references to even more obscure fictional heroes. And a Pulp Hero at that! They're not given nearly enough credit these days. You can criticize them for being "unrealistic" if you want, but damn if they don't grab your attention!
