When I included Rell, I wondered if I could add details to the backstory of the Cyclops. Considering how I wanted to change the role of the Beast in this retelling and designing the Seraph as the villain, I made this little change:
To keep track of the Seraph, Irvok made a deal with the Cyclops where they would give one of their eyes and he would give them the ability to predict the future in exchange. The catch? The Cyclops can also see the moment they will die, and trying to avoid their death would make it even more painful, which is an unfortunate drawback. This was also coincidental because earlier, the Seraph cursed the Cyclops so they would die during their prime age…all as punishment for not having a way of life that met his unrealistic expectations.
Yep, I gave the Beast a valid reason to bargain with the Cyclops to fit the narrative of the retelling. Rell and Irvok may have some awkward moments, but at least they both hate the Seraph.
