The sky was alight with the pale color of the lightning storm over head. Clouds swirled around a single location -- a village. It was the epicenter of a dangerous happening. No villager had time to flee when the creature had arrived. A demonic entity as tall as a towering oak tree but as slender as a stick. It stood on spindle-like legs of pure electricity -- it was a demon of lightning.
The villagers cowered in their houses, hoping to not become victim to the frightening image of the demon.
A father held his hands firmly around his three loved ones. He wrapped his arms around them tightly with tear-filled eyes. "We'll be safe in here." He stated, doing his best to seem strong. "Tudor... will come and save us."
His wife hugged their two kids tightly to her chest, their frightened and confused eyes staring out the window at the bright flashes of light that dotted the village.
There was a roar of noise from outside, then a high-pitched shreek struck the village, shattering all windows in its vicinity. It was a noise none of them had ever heard before, leaving the four completely bewildered. The shriek left the household eerily quiet. Even with the window shattered, the sounds around them became muted as anticipation rose.
The father, hazarding a peak, looked out the window. There were still flashes of lights around, but there was no bellowing, nor was there any footsteps and-
CRASH!
The front door bursted open, leading in a torrent of bright light. The family could see bolts of electricity jumping like rabbits on the ground around them. The father gulped, clutching his family further in his arms.
When the creature had arrived moments before, he saw this same trail of ground lightning wherever it stepped. The tendrils did not travel far, meaning only one thing.
"I...." The man bit his tongue, feeling hot tears well in his eyes. "You are my family. I love you all." He released his family and stood up, putting himself between his family and the open door.
"Marick?" The wife asked, eyes wide. "W...what are you doing?"
The father clenched his fists, looking down at his family. "Hide."
The wife immediately knew what her husband was going to do. She opened her mouth to protest but said nothing, realizing that he was trying to protect her and their children.
Seeing she did not reply, the man shakily walked to the front door. With every step closer, he felt the ground charge up more. Each lightning tendril that hit him zapped his feet like static electricity. It hurt, certainly, but he had to stay strong for his family. When he made it to the door, he could see the creature was no less than five meters away from his home, and it was in the process of walking toward it.
"D...demon!" Marick called, hearing his own voice crack as a surprisingly strong tendril of lightning jolted his foot, causing it to spasm.
The moment the words left his mouth, the creature attuned its gaze to him. Black voids among blinding light, the creatures eyes were just as piercing as the lightning itself. Marick felt himself quiver in fright.
"Y...you cannot be here!" The man started to sidestep to his left, making sure the demon's eyes were following him. If his plan worked, then the creature would chase after him... and leave his family be.
"T...Tudor will be here to defeat you!" The man took a step back, seeing if the creature would take the bait.
The creature tilted its head. It pivotted on its spindly leg and took a step toward the man.
Though he felt his heart pounding with fear, he had a sense of relief knowing that his plan was going to work.
It took another step toward him, lowering its knee to the ground. Marick gritted his teeth as he saw the creature was kneeling. It was strange, but he didn't trust it at a-
No less than an eyeblink is all it took for the creature to jolt forward in Marick's direction. He couldn't see it move, but his life flashed before his eyes as the towering light blasted its way toward him.
This was his end for certain, but maybe his family could get away.
A scream penetrated his ears. It was the scream of his wife.
The moment faded as he realized he was still standing. He was still alive, and he was looking at the demon that halted its advance toward him... but he could not see its eyes. By its position, it looked as if it was staring behind itself... at his household.
Marick saw, through the shattered window, his wife standing there. Her eyes were wide in fear as she was about to see her husband murdered.
Her scream stopped short in a pittiful whimper as she slowly gazed at the creature, exchanging glances with its frightening eyes.
"N...no!" Marick yelled. "Look this way, demon! L...leave her alone! I'm your enemy! Fight me!"
Marick lifted his fists, trying to make himself sound threatening.
The demon looked back at him, and Marick's blood ran cold. The creature's eyes were narrowed. Below its eyes was a long, cracked line of black that ran up the sides of the creatures face. That was its mouth, and it was smiling.
It turned its head toward Marick's wife.
"No!" Marick screamed, kicking off the ground, already running toward the creature. "No! Please! Please! Don't hurt them! I BEG YOU!"
Marick's stomach lurched as the creature, much like it did toward him, bent its knee to the ground toward his house.
"Stop!" Marick screamed. He wanted to continue running, but a stray tendril hit him in the leg, causing it to give way and making him drop to the ground.
He could only watch in the quick moment as the creature instantaneously shot off the ground toward the house.
"NO!" He screamed. The creature approached his house so fast that by the time the words left his mouth, the creature was already there. But it wasn't moving.
Marick was confused at first but immediately saw the creature taking a step back. Its posture denoted it was surprised... perhaps even afraid.
Marick got to his feet again, seeing what caused the creature to panic. He saw a figure, metal clad and standing in front of the window Marick's wife was in.
"I'll be DAMNED if I let you harm this family!" A voice rang out, bulsterous in its conviction.
Marick's eyes widened even further. Was this... Tudor? The legendary hero?
He had difficulty seeing the figure with the blinding light of the demon directly in front of him. He knew the figure was not too tall, nor was it carrying a shield. Was it Tudor? With a bit of thought, Marick realized... no. It wasn't.
"Back down NOW." The figure boomed again.
The creature took another step back, seeming to not pay notice to Marick.
Marick had to dodge out of the way of the demon before it stepped on him with its backpeddling. He looked to his right to see who his savior was. It was nothing more than a knight with the head of a wolf. He carried a black sword and a green cape, but nothing else... but something about him was unnerving to Marick.
The figure's eyes were glowing green, much like the sword it had lifted out to its side. Its right hand was glowing a faint pink color, as if it were about to cast a spell of some sort. Marick wasn't prithy with magic, but he figured this was some sort of magic.... However, none of that made Marick unnerved. It was the conviction in the wolf's voice.
Its eyes were alight with rage, and despite the soft cheeks the wolf had, it was truly a frightening image.
Marick looked back at the demon. The smile it once had was gone and its eyes were wide with exactly what Marick was feeling -- fear.
The wolf raised its sword higher and began walking toward the lightning demon. "I saw your smile. Where is it now?" The wolf barked, making Marick cringe and back out of the wolf's way.
"WHERE IS IT NOW?!" The wolf demanded, stepping closer to the demon. It backed away again, arms lifted to its head defensively, much like a human would act if scared of a scurrying mouse.
Marick could not believe that this mere mortal was causing a demon to cower. Was the wolf going to slash at this demon with that glowing, green sword?
The wolf looked down at his wrist for a moment, then back up at the demon. "You have one minute." His voice was no longer filled with rage, but with a coy intent.
The demon stayed in its position for a moment longer before bending a knee away from the wolf.
Marick could see the wolf smile. "One minute before HE arrives."
Marick did not understand what the wolf meant, but it seemed the demon was aware.
In a blink of an eye, the creature shot itself away from the wolf and away from the village, leaving darkness to blanket the area once again.
Marick was dumstruck by what just happened. He wanted to know more about this unexpected hero, but he had to make sure his family was alright first.
Shaking his head, Marick ran back to his house to embrace his family again.
