Another absolutely stunning piece from Luthien, this one is set sometime after Rising Tide after Harumi has returned to her ocean home.
Though her ring she has temporarily granted Rhodes a merfolk form of his own and brought him down beneath the surface to see the world she calls home. Much more skilled in aquatic forms of movement not to mention controlling the muscles of her powerful tail she effortlessly darts around him while he explores the ocean depths.
Eager to show him the sights she takes him to the shipwreck where she takes the opportunity to plant a kiss on his muzzle before encouraging him to chase her into the wreck.
Note: Luthien unexpectedly upgraded the size of this piece to produce this lovely image which continues to inspire me with additional ideas for future images. I love the 'spiderman kiss' she has going on between them and the clear impression that the tables have been turned and now Rhodes is the one learning the ropes. I've been waiting all week to see the finished piece and I was not disappointed!

*Grins* I guess this makes him a sea horse, huh? He has quite the elegant tail, too, even if it is only a temporary one.
It's such a cute little scene, and it's nice that Harumi gets to show Rhodes her home and share her underwater world with him, at least for a little while. The idea of playing around the shipwreck sounds rather romantic, and I love how agile she looks, too. I'm sure Rhodes will catch on to how it all works in no time!

Though fortunately for him he doesn't have to worry about one of the more unique traits of actual seahorses. :) I agree, it's gorgeous and blends perfectly with his natural colors. However long it lasts, I'm sure he'll be glad to get his hooves back. :)
I had envisioned them more among the wreck but as always with Luthien I am never disappointed with whatever she gives me. She always does such phenomenal work and is my go to artist whenever I need something fantasy or mermaid based. I feel her art has such a unique undefinable property that truly makes it immediately recognizable and just beyond amazing.
After the events of the ongoing story, I imagine at some undetermined point in the future Rhodes would come to visit Harumi and she would invite him to experience the world as she does. Given her curious and excited personality she would jump at the chance to show him the ocean from below. I imagine that the shipwreck is a bit like make out point for mermaids, a spot where they go to be intimate for a while. No doubt after they salvage whatever they might find interesting, jewelry, coins, whatever survives the ocean, it's likely the wreck would be of interest to the curious.
I'm sure Harumi appreciates the chance to have the tables turned. Underneath the water she's far more skilled with movement and such than he is. No doubt she could literally swim circles around him, but on land it's likely the opposite would be true. ;)

I love the merfolk stories where the land dweller interests becomes the mer. It's refreshing.
Well, why should she always have to come visit him on land? :) He needs to come see her in the water now and then.
Though in all seriousness due to logistics most of the time mer stories have to largely take place on land due to the greater probability a mermaid would either be captured or magically gain legs to end up somewhere she shouldn't than a sailor falling into the sea and be transformed. While a land dweller might become a merfolk under the right circumstances it's usually not the way these things start.
Anyhow, after the initial adventure which introduces her (ongoing), Rhodes is probably going to want to see her since he initially believes her story about being a mermaid (quickly recanted or rather kept silent) is false, but once they get to know each other he'll find it hard to stay away.
Since the artist who created the character designed her with a ring to allow her to go back and forth between her natural state as a mermaid and a land dweller form, it kind of informed my mythology and provided an easy mechanism for my land dwelling characters to become merfolk without any lasting consequences or convoluted circumstances. :)
That's probably more than you needed to know, but I enjoy talking about my thought processes.

No nothing too much at all. I'm just so tired of studios and such basically using the Disney Little Mermaid formula so very often. I'm a little bias as a merman cosplayer. XD
I hear you there. Personally I'm always a fan of doing things differently than the usual.
And as always another Mer-Fur is always welcome. :)
