Spelling Mistakes
Jayson had never been proud of his habit of picking stuff up from the floor, but a lifetime of poverty had made him careful to notice these kind of things. Thus when he passed by the bin and saw the edge of a large, ornate looking tome sticking out, he couldn’t help but go back and pick it out, dusting off the dirt and food from the cover. It was heavy, surprisingly so, but more importantly covered with some rather specific symbols, symbols that Jayson immediately recognised.
Transmutation circles.
Now Jayson wasn’t just your regular iguana. Sure he was small and nerdy, preferring the solitude of books to the company of others (besides Matt and a few others), but he took his hobbies seriously. And one of those hobbies happened to be magic. Not the cheap card tricks, no, this was real power, ancient alchemy and thaumic incantations, the kind of magic that had once flowed across the world like water, since lost to the ravages of time. Jayson could feel the power in the tome the moment he picked it up - like the world around him was rippling, a heat haze crossed with a gust of wind. He’d been looking for this kind of power all his life, he’d wondered if it even existed. And now, finally, it was in his hands, all his dreams and hard work quite literally picked out of the trash.
“Ohhhh man, I gotta show Matt.” He mumbled to himself, giddy at the prospect of casting actual spells, and with a quick look around to see if anyone was following him he ran down the street in the direction of Matt’s house.
Matt was a small brown wolf living nearby, and one of the only furs to take Jayson seriously. He’d even helped in the iguana’s search for magical artifacts once or twice, never questioning his belief but simply helping. In a world of nonbelievers, he was one of the few that Jayson would dare to call a friend.
“Matt! MATT!” He shouted up as he reached the house, and after a few seconds and some grumbling from inside the door opened. Jayson didn’t even wait to be invited in before rushing past the wolf, dropping the tome on a table. “You’re not gonna believe this, but I found it!”
“Found what?” Matt grumbled, still annoyed at being pushed past without so much as a greeting, but when he saw the book on the table he stopped. He took in the intricate symbols, the heavy binding, the way the world seemed to bend around it. “Is...that…”
“Hell yeah! I can’t believe I actually found a real source of magic! I did it!”
“That’s….woah.” For a few seconds he was lost for words - it was so impossible, and yet there it was, sitting innocently on his table. Then an idea curled into his head, and his face twisted into a grin. “We should test it out. Cast a spell of something.”
“What kind of spell?”
“I mean, we could just have a look through and find something easy, Just to see if it really works, you know?”
Jayson gave it a bit of thought but eventually nodded, and the pair of them settled down at the table. Opening the book itself was an event, for it seemed to demand reverence in a way, as if every page should be praised. Most of the spells were too complex, requiring strange reagents or requirements such as Moonlight Whispers, or black soulstone. The early ones in the book were relatively simple though, and eventually they found one that simply needed an incantation and a hand pointed in the direction of the target. It was designed as basic augmentation, the kind of spell to make the target bigger and stronger.
Now the choice was seemingly on a whim, but in reality it had caught Matt’s eye and he had pushed Jayson to pick it. The wolf had been a long-time gym member, but even after almost a year of working out he was still 5’7 and relatively skinny, something he desperately wanted to change. Given the opportunity to skip the work and make himself stronger through magic, he’d jumped at the chance.
Jayson looked at the tome several times before getting up and positioning his hand. “FourOneThreeSixNine Hafneration.” he said, overpronouncing the words just as the book had told him to. They both waited for a second, expecting some kind of change, or a spark, anything at all. But after half a minute there was still nothing, and Matt sighed.
“Maybe you’re doing it wrong, let me try. FourOneThreeSixNine Hafneration.” he said, pointing his hand at his chest. They waited longer this time, a few minutes just to make sure, but again there was nothing.
“Man, are you sure it was magic? Definitely?” Jayson shrugged in response - truth be told he was feeling the excitement fade already, replaced by dull resignation. It was just some fancy book after all.
Then Matt felt it. A strange sensation, like a low electric current, fizzing through his body. He felt like a can of soda that had been shaken a little too much, frothy and bubbly, and whilst it should have been unpleasant it actually felt amazing, so much so that he felt like throwing his head back and moaning in pleasure, for it stimulated all his nerves in all the right places.
For a while he simply shuffled in his seat and moaned at the sensation of energy welling up inside him. Then the actual growth began, and that’s when it really began to feel good. Height came slowly, gradually. First it was an inch taller, then another, and another, the numbers running into each other. At 6ft tall Jayson typically looked down on Matt, but now Matt looked on in wonder as he slowly rose up to the iguana’s eye level, their heights matching for the briefest of moments before he began to rise up even further, Jayson’s eyes level with his nose, then his mouth, then his neck. He looked down to see his shirt riding up his chest, almost half a foot of extra height too much for it to contain, his jeans following suit as the hems tickled his ankles on the way up. His arms seemed to stretch further outwards than before, and as he watched his hands shifted away from his body, as did his feet as his legs grew longer. He could even feel his feet pulsing larger inside his shoes, filling the space he was meant to grow into. For Matt it was like he was stretching after a long time cramped in a car seat, the best stretch of his life, but held at the most pleasurable point. He didn’t stop until he was towering over Jayson, nearly half a foot taller than him at 6’5.
“It… I-It worked! No way, no freaking way!” Jayson looked dumbfounded as he stared up at Matt, then back at the magical tome. “I can’t believe it actually worked!”
Matt was about to respond, but suddenly he was overtaken by the odd sensation of his body thickening, existing muscles cells forced into replication by a strange pulsing of energy. He first noticed it in his chest, every breath leaving his pecs a little higher rather than deflating between breaths. It wasn’t a lot of muscle, enough to lend him more of an athlete’s build than a bodybuilder, but when you’d been skinny for as long as Matt had then any amount of muscle was life-changing. Of course when growing larger it is often the arms that garner the most attention, and Matt was no exception to this rule - he was entranced by the sight of cords of muscle wrapping around his biceps, flowing across the limb like an army of snakes. He rolled his eyes at the sensation of strength flooding the limb, like heat compressed into his body. It was a strange thing to describe, for he had never felt anything like it before - like a blind man suddenly gaining sight, he suddenly knew what it was like to be strong, and oh he loved it. The energy continued to flow down his body, his legs thickening slightly and his abs crunching into existence as fat was banished from his frame, revealing a toned, lithe body. His chest pressed lightly into his shirt as he inhaled, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by him - he’d never been even close to big enough to fill clothes before.
Finally the sensation ceased, and Matt was left as a 6’5 jock, hunky and athletic. Muscle rippled across his larger frame, not enough to mark him as a bodybuilder but enough to be very noticeable, especially thanks to his clothes. What had once started as baggy and oversized were now snug on his larger body - in fact they were now a perfect fit! Well almost; as he looked down he could see everything was a couple of inches too short, his shirt riding up his chest and exposing his bellybutton, his ankles visible around the hems of his trousers. Something that came with the height, he supposed.
“No freaking way!” Jayson couldn’t believe that the spell had worked, and he reached over to touch the results. Sure enough it wasn’t an illusion, and his finger was stopped by a layer of solid beef covering Matt’s chest. “Dude, you’re huge!”
“Hell yeah!” Matt couldn’t help but look himself over, admiring the way his body seemed to thrum with power. He couldn’t help noticing that his clothes were a little too small now, his fur visible where they had ridden up on his body. It wasn’t too bad - his top and trousers were snug rather than tight, and his shoes were more of an exact fit now, all the extra space filled up. “Hope it’s not permanent though, I really don’t wanna buy an entire new wardrobe.”
“Bet you’ll get some looks if you did go clothes shopping like that though.” Jayson chuckled, looking at the tome once again. “Hey, I wanna go next! Do me!”
Matt nodded and made to pick up the book, but before he could reach it a jolt of energy jumped up his arm, lightning coiling around his nerves. This time it was stronger, enough to have him quivering in bliss, and he moaned as he felt his muscles slowly start to swell. Hormones flowed like blood through his veins, literal pints of testosterone causing hair to sprout over his body, giving him a beard and a dusting of fuzz on his chest, along with a voice like a tuba dipped in oil, silky and deep. At first Matt enjoyed the feeling, but as he began to press against his clothes he realised the growth wasn’t stopping. Little rips filled the air as every last inch of space in his clothes was filled by growing beef, his body pressing against the fabric and beginning to strain it.
“Woah, NNGHH, too big. Enough! Uhhh…” Matt simply didn’t know what to do - his body was being assaulted by sensations, pleasurable cracks of energy whiplashing through him and contrasted by an increasing tightness from his clothes cutting into him. His feet felt like they were in a vice with how hard they were pressing against his shoes, his trousers were pinging buttons and popping seams from the stress, his top looked like a thin layer of paint over his massive chest. It wasn’t just muscle but size as well, and as he passed 9ft tall he began to worry. In his panic he picked up the book.
“There must be a way to reverse this, where is it?” He tried to open the thing and flick through the pages, but his fingers were already too large for such a precise motion, and only getting larger by the second. Even just holding the book in his hands he watched it shrink smaller and smaller, an optical illusion since it wasn’t actually changing size, he was simply growing underneath it. As his clothes began to split apart under his growing bulk he tried desperately to peer into the thing for a spell, but by now it was doll-sized to him and he could barely read it, much less cast the spell. Another grunt and shreds of fabric peppered the floor - his shoes, split apart by the growth of his feet, the ends perforated by his toes and the sole separated from the shoe. The sound of rips slowly forming in his shirt was matched by showers of rubble from the ceiling - at almost 15ft tall and built like a tank, his head and neck were pushing up against the roof. In fact he was rapidly growing too big for the room as well as his clothes, but the tightness constricting his body meant his clothes were what garnered his attention. He breathed in deeply, watching his chest expand and his shirt split down the middle, cleaved apart by his pecs, groaning as the rest of his expensive shirt was shredded to pieces by his growing biceps. His trousers too were popping and ripping at the seams, simply coming apart under the pressure, all that tightness slowly loosening. He sighed as the last of his clothes came apart, leaving him in nothing but a very tight pair of boxers, and found he could barely move. The room was very much a tight box, and one that he was not going to fit in for much longer.
With a moan he ripped the roof from the building, groaning in pleasure as the last of the growth thrummed through his body, rounding out those heavy muscles and lending his body a manly, refined aura. The spell having run its course, he looked down at his massive frame, at his now thoroughly destroyed clothes, and sighed.
“Now what?”
“I guess there must be a spell in there to reverse it, right? Or maybe it wears off on its own?” Jayson had to jump to reach the book in Matt’s hand, plucking it from his grip. “Then again…” he licked his lips as he looked at the absolute stud of a wolf currently breaking his apartment. “Maybe we could leave it for a bit. You know. Just cause.”
“We’ll see.”
Jayson did a miniature fist pump as he opened the book to look for a reversing enchantment. Which, of course, would just so happen to take a long time to find. A very long time.
