Jua's not LGBTQ+ or GRSM, but she's an ally. This paint-y style piece is my 'show your pride' entry for the contest! I hate that I missed getting it done in June, but late beats never! I've never really cared for the Ally Flag, but I think it came out well.
Stylistically, this was a rush job which lead to some experimentation to speed up my process, and I like how it went. I was taken by the idea of the 'A's arms pointing down ward, and Jua's arms pointing upward making a contrast. The composition was what made this for me.
Edit: Missed the fact that I needed #ShowYourPride in the piece, so I fixed it! (if people want, I'll reupload the one without the text later)

So many flags anymore I never know which one is which but great drawing as always :)
I had to look them up! I can pick out a few of them, but not nearly all of them.
trying a semi experimental thing for depression treatment and am extremely hopeful
https://www.vox.com/first-person/20.....mine-special-k If you are at all curious :)
I was considering asking, but felt like it might be rude. That's awesome!
Nah I am an open book you should remember that :P you can ask whatever!
Thank you so much! It turned out better than I thought it would!
Well, Jua does have a lesbian and a bi-sexual friend. Right? So, it would make sense that she's an ally.
She absolutely does. I considered doing the Bi flag with Lindsey or the Lesbian flag for Tamara, but I ran out of time to do multiple ones.
Personally, if it wasn't for her smoking, I'd love to have her as my ally, too. I absolutely adore this lioness.
Since the comic's set in the early 2000s, she's probably quit smoking by now. She's also probably in her 40s by now, too, though.
Yep! She still lives with her dad in the comic. She's not taken on adulthood yet at all.
Yep! It's not my favorite design (the flag) but that's okay, it's literally NOT about me! And thank you, I'm happy with the piece.
It felt very rushed to me, but I'm so happy with how painterly it came out.
I really like this. It actually makes the ally flag seem cool!
That was the hardest part of this thing. I'm not a fan of the Ally flag design.
I only just saw it recently, and while I suppose it's a good idea to have one I agree the design is sorta "Meh"... But, as you said, it works pretty well with your composition here.
Eh, it's for people who support. I'm not about to complain that they didn't give us a cool one.
dude i really love this <3 i honestly love the ally flag, as a pan/NB person, it is v necessary. for people to show us their support as well as closeted lgbt people to have a place in their community
also your painting is phenomenal, the composition really hits and this character is very pretty! <33

Oh, it's absolutely necessary. My girlfriend is trans, so I know it's a big thing. It's a part of her daily life, no matter what. I'm not entirely proud of some of the stupid crap I said/thought when I was a kid, but there's been a few times, starting like 20 years ago, where I stood up for the right things. I know how important representation and allies are.
Does this mean Jua's an Ally-cat? ;D
Jokes aside, great piece! Love the composition and Jua's jacket flapping along with the flag.

Haha, I guess it does.
Thanks. I honestly rushed this piece a little, but I'm happy with the choices I made. The stylistic approach to the background and some of the brush strokes was a result of a time crunch, but I think it worked. The composition, on the other hand, just came to me all at once, when I read the prompt. The 'A' of the Flag mirrored the 'V' of her arms and that pleased me.

And yet, even after all this time, not a single lion/pride joke to seen anywhere.
Indeed, usually the easy jokes are made early! XD
Would fit even better if it was a pride at Pride!

It's almost as though she's holding the flag up as a shield, and that in itself made this piece seem very powerful. Lovely work! <3
Thank you so much! the sort of defiant pose came to me immediately when I saw the contest. It wasn't at all like my normal sketching process where I don't have a clear vision of what I want.
The body language in this piece is really striking and stunning, it simply works out so well, it striked me so powerfully I had tears in my eyes, really. We're always in need of allies, we're always in need of support. Great piece, and congratz in the honorable mention, it's very well deserved!
Thank you so much! I agree about allies. I was in a pride march back in the 90s where some extremists threw a tear gas grenade (ended up in the news paper cuz I ran back into the cloud to save a few friends who fell trying to run away) so I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about not being a silent passive ally. I kind of channeled a little of that into the piece for Jua. I'm glad it moved you, that's the absolute best compliment an artist can ever get.
