Artistry is of tremendous important to Draknian culture,
And all forms of art and the skill and discipline required to become particularly good at any of them is well respected within the society.
Of all the artistic skills, however, sculpting is the one that draws the most prestige within Draknian society. And it is rooted deeply in their heritage and time spent in the mountain (after all, they carve their very homes out of the face of whatever mountain they may dwell in!). Because of this history they have with earth and stone, the skill of shaping it in a manner to where it seemed to have life was of greatly renowned, with a number of masters of the craft being so skilled at it they would receive requests from nations away for their skills.
Apprenticeship for sculptors is long and arduous for the young Draknian. They start with basic things, pieces of architecture, columns, repeating pieces over, and over, and over again until the craft master they are being taught by is satisfied with their work (which often meant it reaching perfection). After years of this, a young adult will obtain the status of "journeyman" in their craft, and often at this time they will carry out their own voyage into the world in the search of new techniques to add to what they've learned, as well as to bring new knowledge to the kingdom, whether it be in techniques to shape various materials, or or new materials to attempt to shape and experiment with.
Great masters of the craft are able to use both hand tools and their crystals, shaping the stone with their hands, while carefully melting and imbuing sculptures with metals that they are able to melt and channel with their crystals. Very few of such masters exist, however, as the sculpting techniques with both stone and metal that they learned took centuries of experimentation and refinement to learn. But they are able to create forms of stone and metal unlike any other craftsman that lives.
The importance of sculpture to Draknian culture will be immediately apparent the moment you step into a Draknian city, as every square inch of stone is shaped, sculpted, and stylized in some form. It is common for little "hobby shops" to be filled with people working and drinking some beverage, as a form of socialization, comparing work, ribbing each other for noticeable flaws, and things of that nature. It is a skill, a trade, and a hobby that truly permeates every level of Draknian society.
The lovely sketch of a journeyman Draknian sculptor, practicing the combination of using his tools and crystals to give shape to stone was done by rhos!
