Description:
Yellow-cheeked Surak is a small bird. It is found on the largest mainland of Consiglion. It has an ochre color and a white belly. Around the eye feathers form a pattern in the form of a drop. Throat and cheeks are yellow. The tail is short and opens with a fan, and the feathers on the wings are long, with a purple overflow and white stripes. Males differ from females in the presence of yellow stalks on the head and longer feathers on the wings. They are also slightly larger than females.
They lead a daily life, digging through tall grasses in search of food. Quiet, invisible and very cautious birds.
Areal and habitat:
The bird settles in open terrain, with bushes, regardless of the landscape. Usually these are shrubby herbaceous and woody-shrubby thickets, where Suraki hide.
In winter, birds keep fields, thickets and sparse forests on the plains and slopes of hills. No birds are found on steep rocky mountain slopes. Avoids desert places as it cannot hide.
Reproduction:
With the onset of spring, birds are divided into pairs. Ruffled feathers, swollen tail and threateningly sprawling wings make Surak twice as big. Male rumble, roost, attracting females, singing mating songs.
The nest is located in a small hole covered with branches, grass and leaves. The female Suraka lays about 15 eggs. Chickens grow fast, chasing their mother on her heels, and leave the nest after a month.
Lifestyle:
Young birds feed on insects: caterpillars, grasshoppers, beetle larvae. As they grow older, they eat grains, berries and grass seeds. Suraki themselves lead a settled, terrestrial lifestyle, but with the onset of winter they go to the south of Kongsong, to the coast of the Deep Sea.
Very careful and vigilant birds. In case of obvious danger, they soar up, fly a short distance and dive together to the ground, hiding in tall grass. They can lie on the ground and freeze, disguising themselves and hoping to remain unnoticed. Live and feed in flocks in the presence of watchtowers.
Communication:
Very quiet. Basically, they rumble with each other, but watchdogs can shout loudly, scaring the whole neighborhood and warning their flock of people of the danger.
