Hello Vilous fans!
Presented in this artwork piece, is a Male Nevreans who is enjoying his time gliding whilst putting his brilliant feathers on display! Though the Nevrean race is known as more of a dinosaur and bird-like people with regards to aesthetics, the males of this species show more features which are similar to that of birds when compared with their female counterparts. A contrasted similarity shared with that of dinosaurs.
This artwork just displays a representative example of how males look akin to birds!
Concept artwork of this is based off of Kiki-UMA’s initial idea and sketch. Thusly, this piece is a virtual collaborative effort between Kiki and Mick!

Male Nevreans are known to possess the ability to glide, due to their long wings and overall light weight bodies. This is in stark contrast to the specifics of the females, which have short plumage and overall heavier weights. However, as we've mentioned in the past FA journal for lore questions, the matter with regards to male Nevreans and their strict range of flight ability is still under consideration.
1. Q: Can Male Nevreans really fly?
A: In the current state of the canon, they are guaranteed to be able to glide, given their light bodies and wing spans.
Speaking of flight, specifically, they cannot achieve this due to the size ratio of their body to wings, if we were to consider it from logical and/or physical reasons. However due to how Planet Tal's gravity, force of wind and atmospheric composition, etc. may be completely different from that of Earth, these things cannot be decided as of yet due to the need for careful considerations towards Canon and Timelines/effects.
Therefore, the canon on this element in particular might change greatly in the future, and there is a possibility that the concept of a flight boundary and gliding is different from that of Earth.
(Note: Nevrean children are still capable of flight regardless of gender. To learn more, head to section in Vilous Wiki.)
In addition to the above retroactive information, if there is such an external cause within the environment surrounding them, such as the existence of an ascending air current, it may grant them the ability to achieve flight.
However, as the natural environment of Planet Tal needs to be considered more in depth, this concept is also still slated to undergo refinement in the future.

I'm not sure who he is, but he's adorable. I want to catch him when he lands and hug him.
I'm no expert on the subject, but it seems to me that the ratio of wingspan vs. weight would render the males poor gliders at best. I refer you to sugar gliders and flying squirrels rather than actual birds. Long, slow falls and wing-assisted jumps would be the most common use of the wings. Hopping off a second-story roof to glide to the street below, or hopping up to get something somebody left on the top shelf.
However, especially athletic males, particularly ones who work the muscles involved could flap their wings hard enough to achieve enough lift to slow their descent considerably. This way, those males could achieve something closer to true flight.
I'm just rambling, here, but one should also consider the environment. Warm places like deserts and cities would have considerable updrafts, which a skilled glider could ride for soaring. Say a foundry in Gold Ring, which would have some considerable updrafts welling up from it's chimney(s). Said places would be well known to those who practice gliding for sport, like skate parks and steep streets among "sk8er" types. Has anyone considered "Extreme Gliding" as a sport for young males of the "urban nevrean" variety?
As technology progresses, I can almost see hang-gliders or balloons being added to enhance the air-time one can achieve. If I understand the timeline correctly that would be something like CR90 or something, but it seems do-able. I doubt anywhere but Gold Ring would be able to produce that much helium, but hot-air balloons aren't especially difficult to develop. Imagine one of those,

, but down-scaled and with a harness for the nevrean gliding enthusiast instead of a basket you stand in.
Okay, you can tell I need sleep.
