Life's A Chibi - The Smile
Have you ever created something that you are not proud of - that you can see all the errors in it and doesn't feel like you put your all into it? You can't go back, start over and redo it because you have a deadline and have to give it to another. So you are stuck with your "mediocre" creation and you feel terrible about it. You feel like you failed and you are doubting yourself as a creator. You present the finished piece to the other and await their response. You are not sure if they would like it or hate it. You hope that they don't see the off energy the piece gives off or the errors that only YOU can see. You remain silent and gloomy as you await their reaction. The client responds with a smile and a happy tone. They love the piece so much and congratulate you on an amazing job. They walks away with the piece, happy and content. You feel a small lift from your shoulders. You created something that made the other smile and feel happy, something that you felt was terrible and worthless. You made the other smile, and that is a reward for a job well done.
I believe that every creator, no matter what field, goes though this. They create something for themselves or another, but when the creation is near completion, they start to see how much it looks terrible and not what they wanted. It could be a mixture of them not in the right groove, using wrong tools, not seeing any growth, having an off day, or something else that would hinder them to create something they would see as amazing. You feel like a failure and everyone will see all the errors that you, the creator, only sees. You are the creator AND the critic of. Only you can see what is good about it and what is wrong with it - things that only you would see and hate yourself over while others don't know what you are talking about.
The purpose of what you create is to make yourself happy and proud. You want to stand by your masterpiece with pride and joy, knowing that you created something that went beyond your limitations and imagination. If it is for someone else, its for the same reason. You want to make something that makes others feel good about what you created as well as yourself. You want to bring out that positivity in others with your talent and see how much they cherish and respect what you do. Those positive vibes fuel you to continue to create for yourself and/or for others ( as well as payment for living and recondition/advertisement )
Keep on creating. Don't doubt yourself as a creator because there are others outside who love what you do and what you can make out of nothing.

This is so nice. And i certainly do feel that worry, that lack of satisfaction when i draw. It's great when the people i draw for are happy with the result, even if i wish i could do so much more.
This. Mr. Cockburn, please do more of these. this is a message that needs to be heard. Thank you, Very much. it is exactly right.
and yet..even after that there will always b this self-doubt in what you do.....
Hey, I will be honest. You are amazing artist. Your drawings are adorable and wonderful made. You make many happy. You stay amazing and be safe.
This one really hits close to home!
Often for me, I'll finish something I was feeling good about, and once it's done I start wondering if it really is good, or if the tons of mistakes I suddenly see really are as bad as I see them.
And then when I post it/send it to a commissioner I quickly change the page and cross my fingers, hoping it'll be fine.
Most of the time it's just me being too hard on myself, but having someone confirm that it was is a great feeling. Knowing that even though I was so nervous to share it, someone liked it enough to tell me feels great.

this fits with my philosophy when i create anything "as long as one person likes it, it was worth it" and if no-one sees it, as long as you like it that's still that one person :3
Multiple times a way. Sometimes, I think the breakneck pace is the only way to handle it. You go forward too fast to be allowed to care about what you just made, hoping that it was good enough, but hey, no time to think about that, on to the next thing.
Probably why times when I'm forced not to work really doesn't go well for me, heh.
But a good comic.

Wow, I have 2 deal with this every day, given that I keep having these feelings like everything I do only makes it worse. It's like a swarm of demons or something, all whispering things like "u can't do it", "ooh, there's a mistake", and "worthless failure" around me.
But seeing this, both da message and da cute and amazing art, it helps.

It really is hard sometimes to see anything but the errors when creating but it is such a wonderful feeling when someone else really enjoys the piece. I always love these life's a chibi pieces ^^
This is me everytime I finish a commission. I always feel like I fucked up somewhere and see all the errors and flaws that I wish I could've fixed.
But every time, they tell me how much the love what I've done and continue too compliment my work and my efforts. Even coming back for me, which just makes me happy inside <3.
This comic speaks a great deal to me.

You have brought Many Smiles and I'm certain many more will be made. Loving into your past work is one of my favorite past times
Yeah, pretty much every creator has gone through something like this. I know I've done it with my writing. I'm a bit of a compulsive self-editor.
It's also part of why when I do commissions I like giving basic ideas and saying 'have fun'. And have lots of examples.

I think there is not one single picture in your gallery or on any other platform which didn´t make me smile in joy to see them. =3
So you do an amazing job all the time and make a lot of people happy and smiling! ^^

As an obsessive perfectionist when it comes to my craft, I know this feeling well. Thanks for the reminder. ^_^
This picture proves just how 'Amazing!' you are!
Thank You so very much, for all the wonderful years of smiles (and a few tears, at the more sorrowful ones!)

As an over thinker myself, I feel like this is the best reminder. Thank you so much
Keep up the good work kemono

This hit me so hard while working on my half of an art trade, I was disgusted with it but I could not scrap it and start again despite me wanting to.
This thought is what keeps me motivated to continue my writing, just the hope that I can brighten someone's day somewhere around the world. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face.
I could not favorite all of your works like this even if I tried! Well, I could but only because your inspiration has gotten me to this point in not just art but in everyday life!
Ugh as a musician this hit home. Being out of my groove, stuck in a rut, or having an off day happens alot when i grab my guitar. Strange part is whenever i have a bad guitar day, a close friend of mine does as well
God i love these. Such a nice look into what we need to hear sometimes
