[it opens to Dustin sitting on the couch looking at the cable guide on the Nickelodeon & Nicktoons channels all of the listings were the same Spongebob and mostly Teen sitcoms]
Dustin: [groans] i'm so bored!
[Ken enters the room seeing the annoyed Dustin]
Ken: Looking at the Nickelodeon listings, Dustin?
Dustin: yup can you guess what's the most prominent on them? i'll tell you Spongebob marathons and fucking Henry Danger!
Ken: Really? Henry Danger hasn't been as cancelled as its spin-off yet?
Dustin: no as i'm speaking Henry Danger's only made half of the 40 episodes they have planned for their 5th season!
Ken: [groans] Nick sure has fallen from grace. Teen sitcoms that make Disney's look good are everywhere, and any cartoon that isn't SpongeBob is completely buried.
Dustin: indeed most of the shows either from the 90's and 2000's are mostly long gone at this point sure we have shows like The Loud House and Thomas the Tank Engine does have a new home on the Nick Jr. side since 2018 and those Netflix movies of Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life are interesting but there was a time when Nick did have a ton of variety i just... [sighs then sits back on the couch hard causing an orange VHS to pop out from between the cushions]
Ken: Hmm? [picks it up] Hey Dustin, look what I found in your couch.
Dustin: [looks and takes the tape his eyes glow in excitement] :D
Ken: That a good one?
Dustin: you bet it is! REVIEW TIME!!! :D
[it then cuts to the review room]
Dustin: hello everyone and welcome to Woodfox Talks & Rants i'm Dustin Woodfox
Ken: And I'm Ken. You know, there was a time where Nickelodeon wasn't a laughing stock. In the 90's and 2000's it was a real entertainment powerhouse.
Dustin: oh yes indeed nowadays it's known as the Spongebob network but back then they actually showed a bunch of great programs you name it Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life, KaBlam! and The Wild Thornberrys they have shows that could even rival those from Cartoon Network or Toon Disney before it became Disney XD! but today we're only going to talk about two of these programs that were made just around the 2000's first off Ken what can you tell me about The Fairly OddParents?
Ken: The Fairly OddParents was one of the first Nicktoons made by Butch Hartman, who you may remember now for the pathetic scam that is OAXIS. It was a tale about a 10-year old boy named Timmy Turner, and the wacky adventures of him and his wish-granting fairies, Cosmo and Wanda. It was once one of the better shows on Nick, and led to Butch making three more Nick shows. Danny Phantom, an awesome superhero cartoon with a kickass theme song, TUFF Puppy, a hilarious spy-parody starring Spencer Shay, or at least the actor who played him, and Bunsen is a Beast.... which was garbage.
Dustin: indeed i enjoyed it for a while during it's time on the air though after a few years things in popularity started to slow down for the OddParents five cancellations after certain projects in the show were planned in some places but similar to Spongebob Nick just doesn't want it to go and started the trend of introducing new main characters every season sure Poof the Fairy Baby was a nice addition but later ones like Sparky & Chloe the latter dooming the show forever were not very well received and unlike the proper "endings" we had in the show one of my personal favorites being Channel Chasers it just stopped abruptly in mid 2017 but now that we have the negatives of that out of the way let's talk about positives of the other subject now Ken what can you tell me about Jimmy Neutron?
Ken: Beginning as "Runaway Rocketboy", an idea for a short starring a prototype character named Johnny Quasar, it was eventually made into "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius", a full length movie that Nick spared no expense advertising. It later became its own show. It focused on the title character, Jimmy, his robot dog Goddard, and a colorful group of friends who regularly ended up on adventures, most of them caused by Jimmy's experiments going screwy.
Dustin: Jimmy Neutron was also Nick's very first computer animated show as well and unlike shows like ReBoot which was the very first computer animated show ever made the animation at this point has gotten better the movie was also one of the first ever animated movies to get nominated for a Oscar for Best Animated Feature alongside Disney & PIXAR's Monsters, Inc. but both lost to DreamWorks' Shrek after Jimmy Neutron was done O Entertainment made another movie and two more shows for Nickelodeon the movie was Barnyard released in 2006 a movie about talking farm animals which later got a show the next year called Back at the Barnyard which both were pretty good and in 2010 they made a spinoff to Jimmy Neutron called Planet Sheen... it sucked... hard
Ken: Luckily, we aren't talking about that.
Dustin: oh yes what we are going to talk about today is something you'd never thought they'd do, in 2004 both shows would collaborate in a crossover! The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour!
Dustin: now crossovers in shows have been around for quite a while whether it's in sitcoms, movies like Freddy Vs. Jason or the occasional guest star on Sesame Street but animated crossovers were pretty interesting back then these include The Grim Adventures of the KND on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon & Klasky Csupo's crossover movie Rugrats Go Wild nowadays however crossovers just don't do it well there may have been some funny moments in The Simpsons/Family Guy crossover but others like the infamous Tom & Jerry/Live Action movie crossovers like Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka just don't sit well for people especially when they market it as an "original movie!"
Ken: I mean, we still get great crossovers now and again. Dragon Ball and One Piece, Isekai Quartet, and the one-two punch of "crazy awesome" that is Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Dustin: oh yes but if there's anything the Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour did that was more original than the others is this is the first special to blend both mediums of animation 2D and CG though it was mostly a challenge for the makers of both shows similar in fashion to Who Framed Roger Rabbit in a sense today we're taking a look at the first Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour there are two sequels after but we'll explain about our reasoning to them when we're done here with this one
Dustin: the cold open of the special opens with Mr. Crocker asking the kids in his class if they're ready for the science fair tomorrow which is on a theme of Transportation everyone is class is ready... except for Timmy who spent most of his time playing a video game called "Decimator: Crush the Planet" so Timmy runs and hides from Crocker and later after Wanda gives him a special pen called the Auto-Poofer which helps him get automatically poofed back to his room he comes up with an idea to get another invention he wishes he's in the greatest science lab in Dimmsdale which is already a bust since it's A.J.'s lab so Timmy poofs back home and changes the wish this time he wishes he was in the greatest science lab in the universe
Ken: Of course, he ends up in Jimmy Neutron's lab, and after Jimmy mistakes Timmy's Poofer for one of his mini-lasers, he ends up in Dimmsdale. Timmy then sees Goddard in the middle of tuning up.... and puts a copy of Decimator into his programming, thinking the robo-dog is a game console. Yeah Timmy. I'm sure that won't come back to bite you later. It's also at this point he meets Carl and Sheen. And with Sheen being.... well, Sheen, he thinks Timmy is Jimmy who shrank his head.
George Takei: You are made of stupid.
Dustin: yeah this is kinda gonna be a theme throughout all four parts of this special yeah this special comes in four parts not counting the cold opening and the ending there's four segments in this special parts 1 & 3 have Timmy in Jimmy's world while parts 2 & 4 have Jimmy in Timmy's world anyways later on Timmy and his newfound universal friends are seen playing around with Jimmy's inventions Carl on the Robo-Walker, Sheen in the Bubble Gum Mobile and Timmy riding a rocket skateboard later Timmy uses the hypno-beam on Jimmy's mother saying she thinks she's now Mighty Mom but a rather different Mighty Mom than the one from the Fairly OddParents episode meanwhile Goddard's Decimator download is still processing and halfway done at the same time Timmy during another run with the rocket skateboard runs into Cindy & Libby
Ken: Oddly enough, Timmy and Cindy end up falling for each other. Things get crazy once the game disc has mutated Goddard into the Decimator. Back with Jimmy, he attempts to find a way to use the Auto-Poofer as a way to get home, but Crocker, as usual, has his own nutty and evil plan in mind. Seems like Butch back in the day regularly turned Worst Teacher Ever into a supervillain every other Tuesday, didn't he?
Dustin: pretty much that's why Crocker's the best XD apparently he planned out the science fair so he can find a way to get Fairy World
Crocker: home of... FAIRY GODPARENTS!!!
Dustin: later on Jimmy attempts using the Auto-Poofer to get back home but all his attempts fail even going all the way to Mexico didn't work then he finds Timmy's Game Buddy and uses it to make it a means to get back home... however Crocker intervenes still thinking Jimmy's Timmy and takes it from him and uses it to transport him, Jimmy & the fairys to Fairy World where Part 4 will take place later on
Ken: After watching the comedy of errors that is Hugh trying to run from Goddar-Decimator, we soon see the malfunctioning robot becoming a bigger and bigger threat. Timmy is able to defuse the situation and return Goddard to normal, after getting eaten, but it was a close call. As usual.
Dustin: oh yes after Goddard is normal he opens his screen showing the Butch Hartman designed Jimmy that's when Carl & Sheen FINALLY realize Timmy's not Jimmy Timmy notices that Jimmy's in Fairy World and shows Crocker is there as well segwaying us into Part 4
Ken: After putting on the most obvious disguise ever, Crocker obtains a bunch of magic weapons, and brings down the Big Wand, rendering all fairies powerless. Even Jorgen. Well, he's still physically superior to Crocker by many times over, but he gets turned into a dog. So.... Anyway, just as Jimmy's about to leave, Timmy convinces him to help save Fairy World, so Jimmy does what he does best. He uses the Auto-Poofer to go to the Science Fair, and invents a means of defeating Crocker.... as a distraction while he fixes the Big Wand.
Dustin: that's when Jimmy sees it wasn't plugged in... that's kinda funny X3 and he runs off avoiding blasts from Crocker and plugs the big wand back in making it go back up and Fairy World is back to normal again also using Jorgen's wand he uses it to turn Crocker into many scientific items and when Crocker surrenders he's left to deal with the Jorgen dog i guess Jorgen got to beat him up after all X3
Ken: Once the two are back in their respective dimensions, Jimmy decides to do Timmy a solid by letting him use Goddard as his project, allowing him to win the Science Fair.
Dustin: and with that the Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour is over now before we get into our thoughts on this whole special we'll quickly discuss the sequels that came out 2 years later
Dustin: when the first special aired it gained nearly 5 million viewers on launch Nickelodeon considered it a major success so on January 2006 they made The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour 2: When Nerds Collide the plot of this special is Jimmy & Timmy are setting up a Friday the 13th dance in their respected universes and they both want to take Cindy meanwhile in the middle of it all they have to deal with Anti-Cosmo and Professor Calamitous whom the latter later shares a body with Jorgen Von Strangle after an accident with an invention
Ken: Also, this happens.
Cosmo and Sheen, singing: I'm riding a hot dog over you..... All these pork byproducts have got me feeling blue.
Dustin: i'd be lying if i said it wasn't humorous X3 6 months later they also released The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour 3: The Jerkinators in this one Jimmy & Timmy decide to hang out together when Cindy is away much to the dismay of each others' real friends they also created a new villain who they made adaptable meaning he gets stronger every time this one out of all three is not my favorite the plot is pretty mean spirited even the main 2 characters most of the time and the villian they made is kind of annoying in my opinion also this only features a huge chunk of Butch Hartman's 2D style and not enough of O Entertainment's CG while the other specials just use it 50/50
Ken: While it's not as awful as anything with Chloe in it, it's still pretty bad.
Dustin: yeah but as for the first special let's give our final thoughts the Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour is a lot of fun i loved every minute of it my favorite parts being the Timmy in Jimmy's world segments i found it just as good as both shows so in my opinion i give it the full 10 out of 10 just because it tried something unthinkable with both animation styles and come out with gold most of the time
Ken: I'm in the same boat. It was a great tribute to both series, and is still a fun time.
Dustin: so 10 out of 10 for you too?
Ken: Pretty much, yeah.
Dustin: sweet well thank you guys for joining us today even though Nick doesn't try anything imaginative these days it's nice to look back into something amazing they did back in the old days
Ken: Hopefully that Loud House movie and the third SpongeBob movie are pretty good.
Dustin: here's hoping see you next time guys
