Name: Garren R'Mira
Species: Caitian (Jungle Region)
Born: Stardate 56618 (September 2, 2379), Maarsu, G'Kaar province, Ferasa
Age (As of 2409): 30
Blood Type: Rho
Affiliation: Starfleet
Rank: Lieutenant (Junior Grade)
Department: Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Science
Academic History: Federation Maritime Junior Cadets (2393-2397), Starfleet Class of 2401 (Major: Psychology, Minor: Linguistics)
Current Assignment: U.S.S. Discovery, Ship's Counselor
Personality: The romantic of the Discovery's crew, he has taken his species' value of beauty to heart, and strives to find inner and outer beauty in everyone and everything. This has made him very outgoing and approachable, which has served his job as ship's counselor very well. However, his choice of words can come off as too grandiose or melodramatic, leading some to claim that he speaks in soliloquy rather than words, which can be off-putting at times. He has also become known as something of a 'dandy' among the ship's crew, taking great pride in his appearance and mannerisms. However, on the rare occasion that the subject of his sexuality has come up, R'Mira makes it clear that he does not conform to any labels or stereotypes and prefers simply to be himself. One way or another, whenever personal problems arise among any crew member on the ship, chances are they will turn to R'Mira. Though a counselor, his first love is the sea, and would have joined the Federation Naval Patrol on Ferasa if not for family pressure to join Starfleet.
Likes: Beauty, the ocean, sailing, honesty, self-expression, finding the good in people, exotic food, M'Rerra, Captain Logan, S'io, stimulating conversation, new clothing, cleanliness, order (or disorder if he can find artistic merit in it), the ship's arboretum, the holodeck, diversity, Betazoids.
Dislikes: Waste, boredom, clutter, disloyalty, closed-mindedness, stubborn patients, nonsense, being less than true to oneself, physical combat for its own sake (will defend self or ship when necessary), arid environments.

Betting he sometimes visits the holodeck to sit on a beach.
Though out of wonder, what does he see in Betazoids? Does he find it easier to communicate when they read his mind? (if memory serves me right their telepaths and sometimes empaths?)

Haha. Yes he does enjoy that but he'd probably prefer to soak up the sun on the deck of his boat than on the beach. He's more into sailing (especially old wind-driven vessels) on the open ocean. He'd probably be all over that holodeck program of the sailing ship USS Enterprise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(1799)) from the beginning of Star Trek: Generations. As for Betazoids, it's not so much their ability to communicate with him telepathically, but their telepathic ability in and of itself that intrigues him. He's spent his career studying psychology and he considers the Betazoids the best experts and resources on that field because they can actually read minds. He can be a little overzealous when asking them about it, which can get him into trouble sometimes. However, because he's so upbeat and genuine, and Betazoids pick up on that most of all because of their telepathy (or empathy), he finds it easiest to talk to them because they can see him the best for who he really is, if that makes any sense.
