Kun Fei could not believe his luck. He had been exploring this strange, foreign land, as he normally did ever since his exile from his homeland due to a series of misfortunes blamed on the unfortunately earth-aspected phoenix, and once more had gotten lost. After asking a strange cat he came across for directions, he learned that his map was outdated, and reluctantly agreed to let the cat guide him. In a moment of weakness, Kun Fei had absentmindedly let slip that he had little to fear (in spite of the obvious anxiety of being near a natural predator) due to his innate resurrection powers as a phoenix.
If his counting was accurate, this had been almost a half dozen times of being devoured before his current stewing in the eldritch feline's stomach. He gave a little protesting flap to give this 'Cheshire Cat' some indication he wanted his attention over the growling of his stomach. "Mr. Styx," he said, trying to maintain a polite and courteous tone as he felt his feathers soaked with the internal juices and drool of the predator once more.
"Yeh? What's the matter, you not cozy in there?" the mad cat asked, having sat up from his formerly lying position, licking his muzzle while releasing a mild chuckle of amusement, one of his mismatched eyes remaining half closed from the aborted nap attempt. "Didn't mean to squish you 'gainst the dirt if that's the problem. I was feeling a bit knackered after so many filling meals." He pulled one of the beautiful red, gold and brown feathers from his teeth, grinning as he looked to the squirming mass of bird in his midsection. The phoenix had been quite tasty, and despite how nervous he had been before now he wasn't even stammering or shaking! Styx decided he had helped the bird overcome his fears and anxiety regarding cats. He ran a hand across the lighter grey fur of his belly, silently congratulating himself. He purred in contentment and began to drool as he thought of his tasty new friend’s earlier squirming and wondered how he’d do with some gravy.
"Well, it's damp, sticky, blue and smells of...erm..." Fei began before shaking his head, knowing it smelt like him and the various entrées the mad cat had with him before, as well as something very minty. "Anyways, Mr. Styx, you said you would help me get to my destination after you had your fun. I do have other things I need to get done, and I'd appreciate it if you kept your word on getting me there."
"Awww...." Styx replied with a fairly childish sounding pout in his voice. His expression quickly rebounded back to an even more manic grin than usual as he moved the hand rubbing his belly off to the side. "C'mon, how 'bout three or four more times, I'm having fun with this!" He idly played with the feather between his fingers as his large, striped tail flicked side to side in excitement. He was not yet aware of his head floating away from his shoulders, nor his leg detaching at the knee or his hand at the wrist. His separated parts levitated about an inch away, showing his eldritch nature and exposing a green jelly-like texture on the interior of his limbs, with a purple center matching the wild color of his hair.
"I thought you'd be full the first five or six times," Fei muttered to himself indignantly. "This isn't what 'bird of prey' is supposed to mean..." He knew at this point the mad cat was as familiar with him as Fei was with his insides and mouth from his repeated swallowing and digestion. The sounds of the feline predator's purring in tandem with the stomach's growling and groaning completely drowned out his complaints. Next time, he would have to address Styx before he was swallowed.
This was a pleasant little surprise for me, Lurker had been wanting to get something from Zodori for a while now and our casual conversing led to this scenario that he really liked the idea of. When you're an immortal phoenix being eaten is less of a mortal peril and more of an obstacle, but that doesn't stop Fei from being nervous around cats anyway, something Styx decided to help with... in his own fae way of thinking.
Fei is a character that I love but his design has made shopping for him hard since I usually work on budgets, having the chance to get anything of him makes me very, very happy.
Kun-Fei the Phoenix belongs to me.
