It would go down in history books as "The Henka Singularity."
Many theorised its occurrence on the first day of the new year was not a coincidence, but planned by some unknown party with the intention of enslaving the now-formerly Human race.
It started in Bangkok, reports flooding global news of a young adult male suddenly shot through with energy from one of the many religious idols throughout the city. He transformed into an avian creature that, upon initial observation, appeared female in form, but consequential genetic tests confirmed his gender remained as it was before. He was just possessed an extremely effeminate form.
Scarcely 24 hours passed before another case was discovered, but nowhere near Thailand. This case had occurred in the UK, the subject being a high-school-aged girl turning into an anthropomorphic cockatiel of height that surpassed even the tallest basketball players. Within the same hour, another transformation of a senior resident in Dubai, this one being of particular interest as the now-panther gentleman's daily medical checks showed a complete erasure of the issues that had come with his old age.
The medical world ignited like a magnesium fire, scrambling immediately to begin studies and calling for the three trans-humans to submit themselves for study. The calls ceased as the very next day, more cases of these humans-turned-animals were reported having occurred on a college campus. All four of them were female, and they became something that only further set the scientific world ablaze: cearadactylus.
"Extinction from millions of years ago reversed!" the headlines may have declared the very next day, but anyone that paid enough attention observed something else as plain as day. The number of these metamorphsises had increased exponentially. If the pattern held, then the entirety of the Earth's population would no longer be human after a month's time.
Whether it was fortunate or not remained to be seen, but after three weeks, the pattern stabilized into approximately a million transformations per day. They were given the moniker of "Henka," from the Japanese word for "transfiguration," the term originating from a group of young men in Aomori who had been amongst the lucky one-hundred-twenty-eight on the seventh day to undergo this supernatural change.
The dawn of this new era brought society to a complete standstill, much like an apocalyptic event as people struggled to come to terms with this wave of rapid evolution. Any attempts to pin down a common demoninator between any two Henka inevitably broke down as more factors were introduced.
The introduction of extinct species was only the first disruption to any theories. Scientists, Henka and Human alike, attempted to bring their theories in line with this new revelation. As if those efforts were a challenge to the Singularity, Henka that were fusions of two species came to be. It nearly broke all efforts to continue finding the cause, only a handful of researchers remaining vigilant, coming forth with the theory that it was due to genetic markers and mutations. The Singularity seemed to take offense to this, as the very next day the entire batch of Henka were all dragons.
More researchers threw in the towel, remaining only one person in the entire world that continued to study these events with the purpose of finding the cause, her work theorizing perhaps it was possibly evidence that dragons did existence once before.
The very next day, she threw her papers in the furnace, not only having awoken as a Henka, but had become some unidentifiable creature that had absolutely zero traits identifiable by modern science. Logic and science raised their white flag of surrender that day, a mere month after it all began. Almost nobody knew what they were, save for an online community that practically screamed in delight at the creature this scientist lady had come, for they recognized its design.
That day, the world at large came to know the sergal species.
It was very much like the surrender of science-focused observations was a match to a fuse. Much more variety of Henka began to crop up, with increasingly-improbable features that drove the logically-minded to the local pub. Impossibly, creatures from various fictional works began to appear, too: certain monsters of the pocket and digital variety, notable creatures from a particular card-duel game, great beasts one would hunt on a video screen, formerly-horrifying beings brought into the light, extra-terrestrials from the countless media, the list went on and on without end.
Global confusion exploded into panic as many prophecied it was the end of times. Far too many different creatures of unique appearance were coming into the world, terrifying those who were unfamiliar with them, both the newly-awakened Henka that had undergone it and witnesses in the area. The unknown kinds of Henka spread unrest for a week before a surprising turn of events came about.
Unexpectedly, the same community that had identified the sergal species came forward with immense pools of creativity to give these brand-new species identifying titles: the researcher who had been the last to admit defeat had become a sergal, the cyborg-looking creatures were known as protogens, the quadrupeds with an anthropomorphic torso and arms were identified simply as taurs, the draconic shark things were the iksar, the list seemed to stretch onwards. Even in cases where the majority of the afore-mentioned community found itself at a loss, always did at least one individual come forth with an easy answer on some forum.
With a group of people so eager to help assign names to these unknowns, the populace at large found themselves grateful but curious as to how these people came up with these species-names so easily. The answer they got back was always the same: "We're furries, we've been doing this for decades."
And so society settled into a semi-normal status rather quickly. At a rate of just over a million new Henka per day, life gained a spice of risk with no actual danger. Social norms were tossed out, changes to infrastructure were prioritized with everyone's new bodies, and a new branch of life sciences came to be in the form of a single global agency. The Mutological University of Remarkable Reality didn't seek for the answers of how and why, but rather sought to catalogue the who, what, when, and where. Their hope that empirically gathering what was already there would help society at large, if not understand the reasons for it then at least understand how they could move forward.
Things would remain chaotic for a long time, but those caught in this new world of daily discovery and wonder found they didn't mind it so much as they thought. Every day was a brand new adventure waiting to happen with more to learn.
This is the world of the Henka Singularity.

This is the world of the Henka Singularity.
Today I woke up with the intention to write something self-indulgent, instead I did something that required way too much brainpower for what it is.
I've always had a desire to write something involving humanity experiencing a universal change into their "true form." But beyond this synopsis, I don't have much of anything planned, this is more of a set-up for slice of life stories in a world without limits. A playground of fetishes and fantasies.
EDIT: Decided to expand on this in a minor way. This will be a part of a multiverse of transformational potential. That is all.

Somehow I'm not surprised that the Furries made an organization called "The MURR".
Oh you do not realize how long I spent to make the organization's name spell it out that way. (I spent an HOUR on that blasted acronym.) But I was able to get something out to push it out there. XD
Yeh, it's been sitting in my mind in one form or another for years now
Do you plan on continuing this setting ? Like telling how certain countries reacted to it for example or are you going to keep a world wide approach ?
I think for now it's going to be a "hey this is the world that Mung's shenanigans take place in usually" when I write my blips and my stories. For actually expanding (heh) the world, I have no specifics set in stone.
