These berries really know how to make a good jam. That's right, even fruits can be good at music! ...I'm so sorry. xD
While there are hawthorns the world over, the variety pictured is the Midland Hawthorn, but it shares many properties with its relatives in continental Europe, Asia, and North America. Being a plant that produces fruit in late autumn and having a strong, sturdy wood, hawthorn perhaps obviously plays a role in many different folklores. The Celts believed that the berries could be used to heal a broken heart, while the Serbs believed that stakes made from its wood were essential to killing vampires. Happy Halloween, by the way! ^^
But in the real world, the hawthorn’s berries are sought after by animals and people alike. They are a favourite among local birds which often have little else to eat at this time, and local people often collect the berries to make jam or jelly. Apparently, it pairs very well with game meat, like venison. The strength of the wood is also a plus, and First Nations people on the western coast of Canada have long used hawthorn wood for fishing hooks and surgical tools.
Hope you enjoy!

Quite so! Nature has had a very long time indeed to find a solution to every problem, even those which didn't exist until we came along. ^__^
Hehe, I can see what you mean about the resemblance! I always try to do my research for my descriptions, lest I become em-berry-ssed. ;-p
