Happy late Halloween everyone :D I didn't have the time to post this on the spookiest day of the year, but hopefully it was worth the wait
This image was inspired by two old black and white films, one was a silent era movie called Hexen, which depicted witch craft in a way thats rather shocking even by todays standards, and the other was a version of McBeth I saw in middle school which depicted the three witches as standing around a Cauldron naked in a cave.......not sure what possessed my English teacher that was okay to show a class of 12 year olds XD also all three are blind here, so I guess a bit of the Sisters of Fate from greek legend got thrown in for fun XD.

Toph and Katara where enjoying a nice walk out in the countryside, helping build Republic city is a lot of work so they both needed a break to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, but without warning Azula lunched a sneak attack out from a high up tree, away from Toph's seismic sense as the two friends battled this crazed foe who is still looking to avenge the life she feel's they've ruined as the three element benders spill the fight into a near by cave, only for it too suddenly close off behind them.
The fighting carried on as Azula's fire blasts were the only thing lighting to room which made things difficult for her and Katara....but not for the already blind Toph who easily ensnared Azula with a binding of solid sand around her and a rock wedged in her mouth to shut her up, proud of her friends quick work, Katara suggests they get out of here and turn her over to the White lotus, but Toph is suddenly puzzled by something, the rocks that make up the walls of this cave......she can't sense anything beyond it, nor can she manipulate them like any ordinary rock, she tries to pry it open by hand but it wont budge.....their trapped alone in here......or so they think.
Out of now where the loud sound of someone laughing can be heard within the cave, Toph suddenly senses someone else inside there with them, as the duo scramble to see who else is in here, Azula takes advantage of the confusion and lets out a dragons roar of flame from her mouth and tries to roast her captors with it, but before she can her flames are pulled away from her tword the end of the room, there an elderly woman stands unassuming holding Azula's flames in one hand, all condensed into a ball of pure white flame, Azula has never seen such a feat before and is stunned by the raw power it takes to wield pure fire like that. The old woman looked a the three and told them "You'll never leave here using such weak powers, Element benders are all alike, they think because they can manipulate the elements, they wield such amazing power, but in my time, true power came not from manipulation.....but creation"
The old women held out her other hand and from thin air created a rock and a bubble of water, Katara scoffed it off and passed it off as just taking tiny bits of water molecules and rock fragments and making it build up in her hand....but Toph disagree'd "No Katara!! she really did do it, if she were making a rock from tiny bits of rock, I would have sensed it.....but that one.....just suddenly came into existence!!". Pleased that the smallest of the three women understood what true power was, the old woman merged the three elements she held combined and instantly formed a small pointed rod of glowing hot iron and held it in her hand as she said "Magic was the true power of the old world, the benders of this age have no clue what true power is having to rely on manipulating the elements, only the fire benders hold onto a tiny portion of this great strength by being able to create flame" a sentiment that made Azula beam with pride as her imagination ran wild with possibility.
The old woman looked at the entryway of the cave and said, "The rock that lines my home is made of magic, and my power is not like it use to be when I was your age, so in order to leave here, you'll need to master the forgotten art of pure magic, if you three agree to join my Coven, then I will teach you! " Azula wasted no time agreeing as she was stunned by the thought of what she could do with such power, as the woman snapped her finger and broke Toph's sand binding away, Toph was intrigued by the mysteriousness of magic and wanted to meet this challenge for herself, all the while Katara just wanted to get out of here so the three agreed.
The old woman told them to reach out their hands, with the still hot iron she etched a symbol into their palms and told them to all chant aloud the words "Animam meam, Tribuo tibi" a strange language they had never heard before, but as they finished saying it, all three could feel a suddenly feel a force grow inside them, something that made them all feel more powerful then ever!! but at the same time, something else felt lacking or missing, but that feeling went away pretty quickly, little did they realized that Azula, Toph, and Katara have Sold away their souls to become Witches.
The power was immense but it came at a cost, All three could no longer Bend their element, this left Toph no longer able to use her seismic sense and was legitimately blind for the first time since she was a very little girl, Azula was furious and ready to sink her razor sharp nails into the woman's throat, but she assured them that once they mastered this power, they would have back the ability to control not just their elements but all the elements and more, which didn't passify Toph until the Old woman held her hand and Toph could see her in her mind, clear as a bell, the first time she ever saw a person with all their details, this faded when the woman let go as she told Toph, that mastering this power will give her the power to see using the magic aura that surrounds everything, and with that, the lessons would begin.
For the next several weeks, the three lived and studied together under the tutelage of the old woman, Azula put her differences aside to learn such powerful secrets and as part of the ritual she partook in, she had to consider Toph and Katara her sisters and they the same for her, as it wasn't easy for Azula to let her guard down and accept others like this. Living life in a cave wasn't easy, but the old witch had done it for all of her life and showed them that when you can create things like water and rock out of thin air, you can live just about anywhere and the witch had a giant metal pot she called a cauldron that she used to make and serve their meals which was always a bubbling green soup that tasted awful but made them feel stronger each time they ate.
At one point Katara took notice that her clothes were becoming ragged and worn from spending weeks living in a dirty cave, she asked the witch if her magic could clean or fix her clothes, for the first time the witch raised her voice and smacked Katara across the face as she told her "A true witch never caves into vanity!!! we embrace the way the world makes us and lets it strengthen us from within!! if I hear another complaint about such things, ill turn you into bullfrog and toss you into the cauldron for supper, do I make myself clear?!" With a tear in her eye, Katara apologized and swear she wouldn't be vain about how she looked ever again, as the witch turned around to assume the lessons, Katara looked down at her stained sleeves and accepted that this is how it it must be but she also noticed that her hands had changed, they were larger, her fingernails had grown and were covered in bumps, it was a shock to see her hands were so ugly looking, but she looked over at her master and knew that she had to accept it, because she knew what the witch said wasn't an idol threat.
As time went on, they mastered the basics of magic, and despite only learning a small sliver of it, they were already more powerful then they ever were as Element benders, All three wanted to learn more from their master, so now they were taught of greater powers like Hex's and curses as they huddled around the cauldron and through its reflective water, they could see outside of the cave into lands far away, even Toph could see the inside of the cauldron as they saw a thief who just robbed an old man of all his money, and is running off with it, the old witch changed as the cauldron water glowed with power and suddenly the thief stopped in his tracks as he was now cursed and turned into solid gold, to which the poor villagers happily carried him off to be melted down and distributed around to help feed everyone's families, The witch was ready to teach her pupils the powers of manipulating the fabric of reality through hexes and curses.
Months went by as the girls quickly learned the powers they were taught as well as grew appreciation of their new life, the more knowledge of magic they gained the more each of them changed as their bodies grew in strange size and proportions as Katara became double in height while Toph shrank down to a size smaller then when she first met them as a child despite now being in her early 20's, their hands, feet, nails, noses grew long as their bellies bloated out and their skin had become sickly green and overgrown in warts all over, while their hair grew long and filthy and long since burnt up their clothes, roaming their caves completely naked and free as all three took their masters words to heart and embraced the witchly way of shunning vanity and being prideful of being ugly, not that they could even tell.
As time went on, Katara and Azula's eyesight faded until they were just as blind as their sister Toph who despite being interested in spirit sense, ignored it to remain blind, but by this point, all three were so accustomed to the in's and outs of their cave, that they had no trouble getting by in complete darkness through memory alone as the spirit sense didn't really come naturally to either of them with one exception, through the cauldron they could see the outside world and form there they practiced their arts as it gradually changed them.
Toph became obsessed with chaos, whenever it was her turn at the cauldron she would transform entire cities into abstract nightmares of rock and wood, making them still livable but in uncomfortable way, and with the stone and wood magically infused, the citizens couldn't destroy and rebuild, they had no choice but to live in their now weirdly shaped homes and over time their bodies altered and became malformed to match the odd shapes of their homes and in a strange way life returned to semi normal for them as hideous freaks much to Toph's delight as she loved seeing the world become as twisted as she was.
Katara was a changed girl, when she saw that thief get what he deserved, she knew she had the power to make the world a better place, but the more she cursed the wicked, the more wicked her own ideology became, eventually she saw everyone as guilty of something and began cursing and hexing everyone she saw in their cauldron and took great satisfaction as she tormented those she felt deserved it, regardless how minor what they did was or even if she knew them, like giving Suki a giant nose for sneezing in public, turning a Zuko into a sundial statue so he wouldn't be late again, and even turning her own brother Sokka's head into a pig for enjoying meat too much, all to her amusement.
The strangest change of all was Azula, through the cauldron she saw how much suffering there was in the world, far more then then even she caused as the princess of the fire nation, Azula for the first time in her life, grew compassion and used her time at the cauldron to help people and while she couldn't undo the others curse's she did use her magic to heal and give good fortune tword others in a way balance out the chaos caused by her sisters.
Two years have past by as the trio forgot all about their differences and cast away their old lives, despite now being all powerful witches they choose to stay in their cave and live their day to day routine of tending to their cauldron, mixing ingredients, eating, and using it to cause mischief, havoc, or mercy onto the world they once walked among in the sunshine and fresh air, as they now prefer the darkness and the thick air of each others musky sweat as the Trio watch over their cave with love and pride like they always have, but as you might have noticed, somethings been missing for a while.
For quite a long time now, the witch that taught them everything they now know and started them on this path to begin with vanished from their lives, something the girls don't even remember, to them they've always been this way and always will, as the old witch was no longer old or a witch. Now that she had the soul's of three strong willed women, the old woman became young again and her power grew strong enough to where she was no longer bound to her cauldron like her students now are, she was now a sorceress who had all her amazing powers and more, while being able to freely walk among the world of men once more, she decided to let her students have their fun in their cave, she had bigger ambitions now as she started plotting her ambitions to create her own magical army and take control over this world, all the while Toph, Katara, and Azula stay huttled in their cave, content to help or curse people in their own little dark dingy world, where they have each other and nobody else in this bewitching world. the end
