Last time, we learned that creatures of the Adhaeren class consist of symbiotic elements (which are divided into solid, liquid and gaseous) and living cells. But how does the dragon move, why does it need such a massive chest, long hair and tail? This article contains answers to these questions. Let's get started!)
To begin with, all magical creatures were once ordinary living organisms. Magic significantly changed them, but left common features. After all, why re-invent something that already works properly?
This biological analysis refers specifically to the adult stage of development of Hydrurga (dragons, consisting mainly of water and metals). Other stages and types of dragons may have their own characteristics.
I will also draw your attention to the fact that any symbiotic creature is able to change in any little things, so no matter how you depict it, it will be right. The same dragon may look a little different each time.
Eyes - a specialized symbiotic organ designed to perceive visual information. It has an unusual appearance - the "sclera" shimmers with gold like a river. The green color is given by the oxidation products of magic copper. There are small fair eyebrows above the eyes that help express emotions and communicate.
The mouth serves to protect and hunt in those rare moments when the dragon needs to update living cells. The inside of the mouth is covered with a semblance of a mucous membrane created by captured cells of foreign organisms. The sensitive “tongue” often remains without a shell and is needed for analysis of substances entering the mouth.
For a better connection with the surrounding water, the dragon has long hair under the neck. There are also small tufts of hair on the head and elbows, but they are completely invisible and may even be absent. They consist of keratin and symbiotic water. With their help, the dragon feels the concentration of elements in what it is in contact with.
The entire neck, body and tail are covered with dense keratin scales that protect vulnerable symbiotic elements. On the back there are additionally formed large pointed plates covering the spine.
In the long tail, the dragon stores the "excess" water, which then uses in all kinds of magic. The longer the tail, the more water, and therefore more magic. The most unprotected part of the body, but its loss is not so critical.
Unlike the eastern dragon familiar to people, this one has a short body. Nothing prevents him from becoming a “typical noodle,” but the short form with a long tail is much more convenient to control.
This scheme will be slightly simplified and does not take into account layers of living cells with keratin, as well as some little things and the reproductive system.
The center of all this magical organism is the Heart. In it, ordinary substances are transformed into symbiotic ones, the main coordination of actions and management takes place. This is the central nervous system and "digestive" in its functions. It is securely packed in the rib cage, which consists of Wide ribs. They are not soldered and mobile. The whole being will suffer greatly and will most likely die if the heart is destroyed.
There is no brain in the skull like ordinary creatures - all the elements inside the magical creature have their own consciousness. This can be compared with a hive of bees or a colony of ants, but having perfect coordination, the same "genetic code" and without hack workers, which have the above insects. Between each such "ant" there is a very thin magic thread connecting them with each other. When creating a new symbiotic element from simple substances, all the necessary threads must be drawn to it so that it can fully function.
Solid and liquid elements usually do not mix with each other - gold forms the main skeleton, legs are made of copper, and water fills the remaining space and is very mobile. All this array is moved by the very threads that were discussed just above. Like a puppeteer, a dragon connects bones between itself and forms invisible muscles. The presence of copper greatly facilitates weight and even allows you to swim as if in zero gravity.
The interaction of magic with living cells is significantly different from the connection of elements with each other. Here, a comparison with symbiosis is more suitable - the cells are looked after, they are fed and transferred throughout the body, and in return they fulfill their functions - they produce keratin and other necessary substances. Water and gold can bind particularly well to living cells. The percentage of living cells in all dragons varies greatly. Aures have very few of them.
To communicate with other creatures, the dragon has a vocal cords and ligaments. When you need to talk, water forms cavities with air. Inside this unit there are cells that improve vocal qualities. Dragons, who talk a lot, have more advanced voice devices and full lungs with a trachea, as well as developed lips and tongue.
The dragon has teeth of a special shape. They are mainly used for filtering water and soil in search of the necessary particles - copper and gold. The prototype for the form was the teeth of a sea leopard, which, as a hunter, does not hesitate to eat plankton. In order not to catch diseases and not damage the gold base, the teeth are covered with a smooth keratin shell. There are two types of teeth: Filter and Fang.
To penetrate into inaccessible places or to defend themselves, elements can either take shape or lose it. This time-consuming process is called conversion. Creatures rarely resort to the complete transformation of solid elements.
The previous article about magic and my dragon interested you and I am very glad about it. The time has come to devote more time to continuing this series of materials. I really like to think over everything and write these huge sheets of text. I hope you are imbued with my little world and it inspired you to work out your own characters.
