November Scrawlrchallenge "face of emotion"
Going for the idea of having to hold in emotions. When you have to stay calm and smile when you're losing it inside.
Trying to illustrate it with gelada baboons because they're pretty expressive. I also just love they're long fur and amazing canines.
For this month we got Daler Rowney Gouache, which I'll be honest, isn't that great compared to other gouache. But I understand that having higher quality gouche would be a bit too pricey.
The bockingford CP watercolour paper has a lovely texture to it but at 220gsm it buckles really easily. I think it could be good for simpler ink and watercolour washes though?
(I realize this month you were encouraged to use the gouache thickly and boldly but god I hate painting like that. Other artists can get beautiful results but its really not for me. I like building it up like watercolour, with more opaque layers later down the line.)
The 3b Lyra pencil and the royal talens brush were pretty good! I was able to get surprisingly thin details with the brush.
