Just had an itch to draw some Warcraft Kobolds a while back after watching a 'Behind the Scenes' of Kobolds and Catacombs ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaUVEleZO5I )
Geosculptor Yip on the left, the rest are just made up!

They're based on the original Kobold lore.
Germanic lore Kobolds were earth or stone spirits who lived in vast cave systems. Miners used to leave them gifts, primarily candles, to show respect and as payment for guidance to ore veins underground. It was said Kobolds caused cave-ins, stole tools and blew out candles if not kept happy, but if they were happy they would act as guides and warn of dangers such as weak shafts or overburdened props.
Fantasy Kobolds originally based their form on this lore, which were basically Dwarves that were very skinny and rodent like, hence the rat-like features of WoW Kobolds. Older D&D editions also reflected this with a dog-rat hybrid appearance before they changed into the tiny reptilian creatures everyone more commonly knows.

Folklore is pretty neat, both in how it's able to be used in games and art and the real life curiosity. Most cultures, if not all, have their own variation of the Kobold in mythos be it fey creature, spirit, demon or guardian spirit.
Thanks for all the info! Hard to say which is better, dog rat or tiny dergn, they are both cute!
Oh yeah, it's pretty neat. One is fluffy and good for pets, the other is a dragon who natural selection bestowed the thickest of thighs.
It's no trouble, just sharing some interesting facts around. Personally I prefer these to the dragon kobolds but that's mostly due to a Pavlov response from D&D.
One point i think surface somewhere in some game expansion is that they actually care for candels in fear of Old Gods minions lurking in the darkness, it was either Northrend or in Broken Isles.
I think my favorite is probably the far left, a "Dat Ass" face while rocking the candle? Magical xD
Keep up the awesome work ;)
